[IslamCity] Punish Mockers of the Prophet: Makkah Imam P.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News Courtesy:http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1section=0article=77622d=11m=2y=2006

2006-02-12 Thread Abdul Wahid Osman Belal

Punish Mockers of the Prophet: Makkah ImamP.K. Abdul Ghafour, Arab News JEDDAH, 11 February 2006 — An influential imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah yesterday called for the imposition of stiff punishment on those daring to mock the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Delivering his Friday sermon, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais also emphasized the need to activate international resolutions that condemn and punish such crimes as defamation of religions and prophets. “All Islamic countries have condemned this act of crime,” Al-Sudais told the faithful who packed the large mosque complex, referring to the blasphemous cartoons published by Western newspapers. “We make a
call from the podium of the Grand Mosque and the birthplace of Islam, on behalf of Muslims all over the world, that tough punishment should be imposed on those who make a mockery of the Prophet,” the imam said. Sudais said Western countries and organizations were adopting double standards on the issue of Danish cartoons allowing abuse of Muslim sanctities and their Prophet. “The repulsive cartoons depicting the Prophet have violated the sanctity of 1.5 billion Muslims around the world and their feelings This has exposed those who are actually promoting extremism, violence and hatred between peoples,” Sudais said. He praised Muslims all over the world for standing up to the challenge and protesting the publication
of cartoons. Sudais told Islamic scholars and intellectuals to do more to spread the message of the Prophet and his noble qualities and ideals. “We must seize this opportunity to spread the correct perspective of his noble life through publications and programs in various languages,” he added. The imam called on wealthy Muslims to use their money to confront the smear campaigns against Islam. ABDUL WAHID OSMAN BELAL

Dear Brother Adil Assalaam Alaikum,

Subject: [IslamCity] An Open Letter to Danish Prime Minister

An open Letter to Danish Prime Minister

The outpouring of outrage by the Muslims the World over should not
surprise anyone, not the least your Government Mr. Prime Minister.
If the publications of the caricatures were not deliberately
motivated to cause upheaval in the Muslim World, there is definitely
good reason for us to believe that your anti-Muslim, deliberately
provocative policies have lead to something like this happening?

The freedom of expression does not mean abdication of social
responsibility and this we believe even your government understands.
However when a mischief of this magnitude is carried out in the name
of freedom of speech and expression by the so called independent
media and it does not even draw a hint of rebuke from your
government, we the Muslims have no choice but to believe this is a
well orchestrated conspiracy by the right wing Christian Governments
of the EU to drive a wedge between the Christian West and the
Muslims. What is the end game we don't know but surely there is more
to it than what meets the eye.

Your utter lack of regard to the sentiments of Muslims and your
denial of audience to the Muslim delegation comprising of Leaders
and Imams who only wanted to see you to put across their view point
and why it was so painful to them to see their Prophet being
lampooned in such a manner has now snowballed into a tidal wave of
Muslim anger and shows no sign of dying down. If only you had the
sagacity and wisdom to meet up with the delegation and issued even a
one line statement of rebuke against the editor of Jylland-Posten
for their irresponsible act, this matter would have died.

We believe you deliberately declined to meet the Muslim delegation
because from the outset your mind was clouded by your hatred towards
Muslims and a peaceful demise of this problem was the last thing you
wanted.

Karen Armstrong, one of the most eminent experts on the Middle East
and author of the biography of Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him),
has pointed to the historical animosity that western culture
(through its orientalist literature) has always carried against
Islam when she said - These cartoons depicting Muhammad as a
terrorist are utterly inaccurate, feeding into an Islamophobia that
has been a noxious element in Western culture since the time of the
Crusades.

We are told that in Universities in Europe and America Journalists
are often taught that freedom of speech ends where the sensitivities
of people begin. It is such a paradox that on the one hand the
Journalists learn one thing at College and at the same time stand up
in solidarity with your Jylland-Posten by publishing the same
caricatures in their own newspapers and magazines. However there are
exceptions such as our own media in India and so too the big
Networks such as CNN and BBC who have consciously avoided
publication of these offensive caricatures in order not to hurt the
sentiments of the Muslims. We the Muslims are grateful to the media
giants BBC and CNN for their extremely responsible conduct.

The Quran Says: The Messenger (Muhammad PBUH) believes in what has
been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each
one believes in Allah, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers.
(They say), We make no distinction between one another of His
Messengers- and they say, We hear, we obey, (We seek) Your
forgiveness, our Lord, and to you is the return (of all). Al-Quran
2.285.

The above verse should suffice to amply demonstrate why it is not
possible for us to accept even a hint of disrespect to any of our
prophet(s). When we say we believe, let it be understood that we
indeed do. Hence the question of accepting such lampooning of our
Prophets and the revealed Books as a joke is simply out of the
question.

You and your government will do well Mr. Prime Minister to note what
the famous Historian Lamar Tine had to say about the greatness of
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In the words of Tine: If greatness of
purpose, smallness of means and astounding results are the three
criteria of human genius, who could dare to compare any great man in
modern history with Muhammad? The most famous men created arms, laws
and empires only. They founded, if anything at all, no more than
material powers which often crumbled away before their eyes. This
man moved not only armies, legislation, empires, peoples and
dynasties, but millions of men

The invititation was later backed by France as potentially positive for the peace process. But it puzzled Washington and delivered a blow to the Jewish state's appeal to the international community to isolate the radical movement as it prepares to form a new Palestinian government."This initiative is a real knife in the back... because it aims to give international legitimacy to a terrorist group and we must oppose it with all our means," Education Minister Meir Sheetrit told public radio on Friday. "What would Moscow say if we invited Chechen representatives (to Jerusalem) in response?" the minister asked. "Putin is dancing with wolves," charged Housing Minister Zeev Boim. "Anger in Israel: Putin is Spitting in Our Face," read the headline of the top-selling Yediot Aharonot newspaper. An analyst in the leading daily slammed Putin for making what the writer termed a "bloody pact" with Hamas and called his explanation for the invitation "cynical, baseless and particularly infuriating." A commentary in the Ma'ariv newspaper said Putin had "shocked the entire world. Yesterday, Russia broke the worldwide alliance taking shape against Hamas."Putin told reporters on Thursday that he was inviting Hamas leaders to
Moscow for talks after its landslide win in last month's election, saying it was time for the world to accept the poll result and work with a Hamas-led administration. Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov on Friday defended the decision and predicted other countries would follow suit. "I'm not afraid to predict that sometime in the future many leading states, and I'm thinking in particular about the quartet, will start supporting Hamas contacts... to make clear to Hamas authorities (their) attitudes... toward the Middle East settlement," he said.Shortly afterward, France gave its approval to Russia's invitation, saying it could help the Middle East peace process. The offer "may contribute to advancing our positions," foreign ministry spokesman Denis Simonneau said.Russia is part of the diplomatic "quartet" that has demanded Hamas recognise Israel, give up anti-Israeli attacks and respect agreements between the Palestinian Authority and the Jewish state. The four members -- Russia, the
United States, the European Union and the United Nations -- drafted the so-called roadmap to peace three years ago, a plan which calls for the creation of a Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel. The plan has been practically moribund since its creation. However Moscow, unlike the United States and the European Union, does not consider Hamas a terrorist organisation. Washington gave a guarded response to Russia's move but stopped short of denouncing it. "At this point we have sought some clarification from the
Russians as to what exactly their intentions are, what their plans are," said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack. Israeli officials have pressed against any political contact with Hamas until its recognises Israel. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, who was in New York on Thursday, had warned of what she
called a "slippery slope" and urged the world's major powers to stand firm on previously agreed conditions for recognizisg Hamas. "Every sign of weakness and of recognition will be interpreted by Hamas as legitimising terror," she said. "It's important that the international community insist on the fulfillment of these conditions." However, according to one analyst, Putin's potential meeting with Hamas could benefit Israel if the Russian leader can persuade Hamas of the quartet's demands. "Even if
Israel is officially against it, it is not so catastrophic," Amnon Sella, a professor of international relations at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, told AFP. "It could provide certain benefits for Israel." Yossi Beilin, the chairman and veteran dove of the left-wing party Meretz, said there should be no obstacle to talking with Hamas, whether or not it had renounced violence. "We have no terms for dialogue, but we do have terms for negotiations," said Beilin, one of the chief architects of the now largely defunct 1993 Oslo autonomy accords. CAIR CONDEMNS IRANIAN HOLOCAUST CARTOON CONTEST

(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/8/06) - The Council on American-Islamic Relations today
condemned a plan by an Iranian newspaper to solicit cartoons denying the
 Nazi Holocaust.

Iran's Hamshahri newspaper says the contest is in reaction to the
publication in Europe of cartoons mocking Islam's Prophet Muhammad. The
controversy over those cartoon sparked worldwide protests.

 In a statement, CAIR said:

Now is the time for responsible people of all faiths to avoid inflammatory
actions that are clearly designed to incite hatred. We call on Hamshahri
newspaper to drop its plans to denigrate the immense suffering caused by the
Nazi Holocaust and urge the Iranian government to repudiate such an
 insensitive proposal.

The Quran, Islam's revealed text, states: 'Goodness and evil cannot be
 equal.
Repel (evil) with something that is better. Then you will see that he with
whom you had enmity will become your close friend. And no one will be
granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and
 self-restraint.' (41:34-35)

The Holocaust, like all other acts of genocide, represents one of the
lowest moments in human history and should not be the subject of derogatory
cartoons. One cannot demand responsible behavior from others while at the
 same time acting irresponsibly.

Previously, CAIR and other American Muslim groups rejected the use of
violence in response to the defamatory caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad
 published in European newspapers.

In reaction to the cartoon controversy, CAIR officials met with the
Norwegian and Danish ambassadors to express the Muslim community's concerns
about the caricatures and urged American Muslims to educate others about the
 legacy of the Prophet Muhammad.

CAIR, America's largest Muslim civil liberties group, has 31 offices and
chapters nationwide and in Canada. Its mission is to enhance understanding
of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American
Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

[IslamCity] BACKGROUND TO A PROVOCATION

2006-02-12 Thread assalamu_alaikum_1427
Denmark and Jyllands-Posten: The background to a provocation
By Peter Schwarz
World Socialist Web Site
10 February 2006
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2006/feb2006/denm-f10_prn.shtml

The basic lie in the controversy over the caricatures of the Prophet
Muhammad published by Danish and European newspapers is the claim that
the conflict is between free speech and religious censorship, or
between Western enlightenment and Islamic bigotry.

The taz newspaper, which has close links to the German Greens,
declared the conflict was about reducing the influence of all
religions, including Christianity, to a tolerable measure. In
Spiegel.online, Henryk M. Broder condemned the halfhearted apology
made by the publishers of the Danish daily Jyllands-Posten, which
unleashed the caricature controversy, as an example of how democratic
public opinion capitulates to a totalitarian standpoint.

An examination of the prevailing political conditions in Denmark
reveals how bogus such arguments are. One would be hard pressed to
find another European country where political changes over the past
few years have found such a clear—and repellent—expression.

In a country renowned for its tolerance and openness, the social
crisis and the betrayals carried out by the old working class
organizations have opened the way for the emergence of political
forces which systematically encourage xenophobia and racism. The
newspaper Jyllands-Posten has played a prominent role in this process.

Last autumn Jyllands-Posten assigned 40 prominent Danish caricaturists
to draw the Prophet Muhammad. Twelve responded and the results were
published on September 30. The project was deliberately designed to
provoke.

According to the cultural editor of the newspaper, Flemming Rose, it
was aimed at testing the limits of self-censorship in Danish public
opinion when it comes to Islam and Muslims. He added: In a secular
society, Muslims have to live with the fact of being ridiculed,
scoffed at and made to look ridiculous.

When the anticipated reaction by the Muslim community failed to arise,
the newspaper continued its campaign, determined to create a
full-scale scandal. After a week had gone by without protest,
journalists turned on Danish Islamic religious leaders who were well
known for their fundamentalist views and demanded: Why don't you
protest? Eventually, the latter reacted and alerted their co-thinkers
in the Middle East.

At this point the head of the Danish government, Andres Fogh
Rasmussen, and the xenophobic Danish People's Party, which is part of
the ruling coalition, swung into action. Fogh Rasmussen
demonstratively turned down appeals by concerned Arab ambassadors for
talks to clarify the issue. Even after 22 former Danish ambassadors
appealed to the prime minister to hold discussions with the
representatives of Islamic states, Rasmussen maintained his stance,
arguing that freedom of the press could not be a topic for
diplomatic discussion.

The chairperson of the Danish People's Party, Pia Kjaersgaard,
insulted Danish Muslims who complained about the caricatures, publicly
denouncing them as national traitors because they supposedly placed
their religious beliefs above free speech.

From the start, the campaign had nothing to do with free speech and
everything to do with the political agenda of the Fogh Rasmussen
government, comprising of a coalition of right-wing neo-liberals and
conservatives, together with the Danish People's Party.

The latter rose to prominence in the 1990s when all of the country's
bourgeois parties—including the then-governing Social
Democrats—responded to a mounting social crisis with xenophobic
campaigns. The People's Party declared at the time that Islam was a
cancerous ulcer and terrorist movement. Kjaersgaard, notorious for
her racist outbursts, declared that the Islamic world could not be
regarded as civilized. There is only one civilization, and that is
ours, she said.

Fogh Rasmussen, at that time the chairman of the right-wing Venstre
party, adopted much of the racist demagogy of the People's Party. In
the election campaign of 2001he demanded, among other things, that
criminal foreigners be thrown out of the country within 48 hours.

His campaign utilized an election poster featuring pictures of Muslim
criminals to suggest that all Muslims were violent. Venstre won the
election and, together with the traditional conservative party, formed
a minority government, which was supported by the extremist People's
Party.

Danish politics lurched far to the right. The country's immigration
laws were drastically tightened, while spending for development aid
was cut back. In the Iraq war, which was opposed by the majority of
the Danish population, Fogh Rasmussen lined up behind the Bush
administration and sent a contingent of Danish troops to help occupy
the country.

The campaign unleashed by Jyllands-Posten is a continuation and
intensification of this reactionary trajectory, aimed at bolstering
the xenophobic policies

[IslamCity] Something Is Rotten in the State of Denmark

2006-02-12 Thread Alan Border

“Therefore be patient with what they say, and celebrate (constantly) the praises of thy Lord, before the rising of the sun, and before its setting; yea, celebrate them for part of the hours of the night, and at the sides of the day: that thou mayest have (spiritual) joy. Nor strain thine eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to parties of them, the splendour of the life of this world, through which We test them: but the provision of thy
Lord is better and more enduring.” (Al-Qur'an, 20.130-131 (Ta-Ha [Mystic letters Ta-Ha]))‘Something Is Rotten in the State of Denmark’Tarek Mishkhas, Arab News http://www.arabnews.com/?page=7section=0article=77327d=5m=2y=2006pix=opinion.jpgcategory=OpinionDanish ministers say the government can’t condemn the cartoons a daily published mocking the Prophet Muhammad (peace be
upon him), and that freedom of speech is guaranteed for all and that freedom of the press is also guaranteed by the Danish constitution. This argument would have been accepted if the constitution does not state otherwise and if the Danish government can say the same thing when it comes to making anti-Semitic remarks. The Danish constitution says:“The law prohibits publicly disseminated statements, which threaten, insult, or degrade persons based on their religion.”And this law was used by the Danish government to condemn “anti-Semitic” activities and investigate them, as mentioned in the human rights
report made by the US Department of State regarding Denmark in 2004:“From January through June, there were five incidents of anti-Semitic vandalism, primarily graffiti, and one incident of an anti-Semitic mailing, which the government condemned and investigated.”Why a different stand when it comes to Islam? Of course there is nothing new in this. In April last year the queen of Denmark was quoted by the Telegraph newspaper as saying that we (Denmark) “should show our opposition to Islam”.She said: “We are being challenged by Islam these years — globally as well as locally. It is a challenge we have to take seriously. We have let this issue float about for too long because we are tolerant and lazy. “We have to show our opposition to Islam and we have to, at times, run the risk of having unflattering labels placed on us because there are some things for which we should display no tolerance.”The problem is not confined to Demark; some newspapers in some European countries used the same cartoons to say that they support the Danish newspaper’s “freedom of speech”. These countries that boast about freedom of speech and freedom of press are the same countries that make it illegal and punishable by prison for anyone to question the holocaust or brandish Nazi symbols in public. In France a university professor was sacked because he made a research questioning the magnitude of the Holocaust. In
Germany one risks going to jail if one denies the Holocaust or brandishes Nazi symbols in public. In fact the Italian interior minister confirmed on Thursday that legal action is being taken against 11 football fans for brandishing Nazi symbols during a Serie A game. The 11 face prison sentences of between three months and one year. There are many examples to show that freedom of press in Europe stops when it comes to some historical facts that two can differ upon, but when it is about insulting Islam then it is freedom of speech. No freedom is absolute; a person’s
freedom ends when it encroaches into another person’s freedom.Muslim governments should ask the United Nations to pass a law against insulting any religion. We should use all our resources and powers — economical and political — to make this happen. If we stay silent now then we will never be able to raise our heads. Muslim people have said their word and took action by boycotting Danish goods; now it is up to governments to take a strong stand.AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account." [IslamCity] nuclear issue--Iran still has right on its side, writes Mustafa El-Labbad

2006-02-12 Thread S A Hannan

Dear edotor/members of the list,

Assalamu Alaikum. I am sending to you a good
analytical article on Iranian nuclear issue from Al-Ahram weekly for
publcation/information. The article argues that Washington has succeeded, through diplomatic and media
pressure and mobilisation, in reaching the furthest reach of its demands --
automatically transferring the file to the Security Council -- without need for
a further vote by the IAEA.It further saysthat there is
no law that justifies the issuance of this resolution. Iran has not violated
international law, and has not occupied another country like Iraq did Kuwait.
The spirit of the resolution deals with Iran as though it has been vanquished in
a military conflict, its defeat being substantiated with unfair conditions.
Iran's so-called crime is that it has not relinquished its nuclear ambitions,
and that it has exploited a regional vacuum opened up, largely, by the
misadventures of the current American administration. What is being demanded of
Iran clearly goes beyond its nuclear file and reaches the point of changing its
political system under the pretext of inspecting its nuclear installations.

Shah Abdul Hannan

This is not according to law
While almost assured to be referred to the Security Council
for punitive measures, Iran still has right on its side, writes Mustafa
El-Labbad

The International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Board of Governors
resolution ordering the referral of the Iranian nuclear file to the UN
Security Council opens the door wide to the placement of sanctions on
Tehran for the first time in the history of the Islamic republic. The
resolution passed by 27 votes of a total of 35. This result is an
indicator of current regional and international balances as well as
future majorities in the Security Council.
The acquiescence of Russia and China -- both traditional allies of
Iran -- to the draft resolution's demands and their approval of it is a
virtual lifting of the international cover that has shielded Tehran in
its confrontations with Washington via the IAEA. Only three states
objected to the resolution: Syria, which is tied to a regional alliance
with Tehran, and Cuba and Venezuela, both of which are engaged in
reciprocal relations of hostility with Washington. And only five states
refrained from voting: South Africa, Belarus, Indonesia, Algeria and
Libya. Even neighbouring states such as Egypt, Yemen and India voted in
favour of referral. The resolution needed only a passing majority (18
out of 35 votes). The high percentage of votes in favour can be read
like a thermometer measuring the degree of international pressure being
placed on Iran.
While the text of the resolution did not make reference to possible
sanctions against Iran, its spirit, which reveals an escalation in
comparison to which other resolutions pale, opens the door wide to
sanctions. The same text guarantees that the Iranian nuclear file will
be subject to non-stop screening, thus barring Iran from tying the
IAEA's demands to a limited time period and cutting away at the margins
of manoeuvre in its hands. The resolution's text does not include an
explicit "time limit" but rather automatically transfers the Iranian
nuclear file to the Security Council at the next meeting of the IAEA
Board of Governors at the beginning of March. Should Iran not comply
with the demands of the resolution, the "limit" will be up. It can thus
be said that Washington has succeeded, through diplomatic and media
pressure and mobilisation, in reaching the furthest reach of its demands
-- automatically transferring the file to the Security Council --
without need for a further vote by the IAEA.
The formulation of the IAEA's demands is evidence of Iran's
diplomatic crisis. Its legal position is much stronger, however, and to
get around this problem Washington and its allies have been intent on
inverting any logic that the accused be regarded innocent until proven
guilty and that accusations must be backed up with evidence. For Iran to
prove its innocence, it must comply with debilitating demands, although
the text doesn't indicate it, being formulated with a great deal of
baseness and very little sensitivity. The Board of Governors set four
basic demands on Tehran ahead of automatic transferral to the Security
Council. The first of these is "full and sustained suspension of all
enrichment-related and processing activities, including research and
development, to be verified by the agency". This

Venezuelan Muslims protest cartoons
Reuters
From correspondents in Caracas
February 11, 2006
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,18111685-23109,00.html

AROUND 200 mainly Muslim protesters marched to the Danish Embassy in
Venezuela's capital Caracas today and burnt a Danish and an American
flag, as protests over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed spread to
Latin America.

The demonstrators left a prayer session at a Caracas mosque and
marched together, chanting in Arabic, to the embassy where they doused
a Danish and an American flag with petrol and set them alight on the
building's steps.

It was the first such demonstration in Latin America in a sweeping
global protest over the cartoons that has brought tens of thousands of
Muslims to the streets from Jakarta to Nairobi, killing at least 11
people so far.

The drawings, considered blasphemous by many Muslims, were first
published in a Danish newspaper, but have since appeared in a number
of other publications around the world.

This is a peaceful march so that people don't keep picking on Muslim
people, said Elias Antonio, a young Venezuelan protester sporting a
red baseball cap.

I am a Christian. I am supporting my friends. There has to be
respect, whether you're Christian, Muslim or Shi'ite, you have to
respect everything, he said.

The protesters marched some 3km to the embassy in the business
district of Caracas from the downtown mosque, where one shouted: We
have to do our duty. Let's go on this march and protest calmly for our
religion, for our Prophet.

Venezuela has a small but influential Muslim population, many of them
citizens of Lebanese and Syrian descent. The Caracas mosque is one of
the biggest in Latin America.

The Danish newspaper that first published the cartoons has apologised
for offending Muslims, although not for printing the drawings.

Cartoon anger unabated

NAIROBI (Reuters) - Kenyan police opened fire at hundreds of people
demonstrating against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad on Friday,
wounding at least one, as protests across the Muslim world showed no
sign of abating.

Police in Bangladesh beat back about 10,000 people marching on the
Danish embassy in Dhaka and demonstrators took to the streets in the
Middle East, Asia, Africa and, for the first time, Latin America.

The Palestinian militant group Islamic Jihad, which has carried out
several suicide bombings in Israel, threatened more violence and a
leading Saudi Muslim cleric called for no mercy in punishing anyone
mocking the Prophet.

So far we have demanded an apology from the governments. But if they
continue their assault on our dear Prophet Mohammad, we will burn the
ground underneath their feet, Islamic Jihad leader Khader Habib told
supporters after Friday prayers.

Riot police in Kenya, where about six percent of the population are
Muslim, fired live rounds and tear gas to prevent hundreds of
stone-throwing protesters from reaching the Danish embassy. One man
was shot in the thigh, a witness said.

In Morocco a government-sponsored march attracted tens of thousands of
people while around 200 people burnt Danish and American flags in the
Venezuelan capital.

At least 11 people have been killed this year in protests over the
cartoons, one of which showed the Prophet Mohammad wearing a
bomb-shaped turban. They were first published in Denmark and then in
other European countries and elsewhere.

Muslims consider any portrayal of the Prophet blasphemous, let alone
one showing him as a terrorist.

We demand stiff penalties without leniency against those who deride
the Prophet Mohammad, Abdel-Rahman al-Sudeis, a prominent Saudi
Arabian cleric in Islam's holiest city of Mecca, told worshippers.
With one voice, millions of Muslims around the world are defending
the Prophet of God.

PRETEXT FOR VIOLENCE

EU External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner said both
religious sensitivities and freedom of speech needed to be respected
and the violent reaction was not justified.

I do think that, unfortunately, these cartoons have been used as a
pretext for violence and for showing that some Arabic countries could

[IslamCity] Sher Shah Suri- The Lion King

2006-02-12 Thread Abdul Wahid Osman Belal

Chowdhury [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: Chowdhury [EMAIL PROTECTED]Date: Thu, 9 Feb 2006 19:59:09 -0800 (PST)Subject: Sher Shah Suri- The Lion King Sher Shah Suri- The Lion King Babur's victories at Panipat and Gorga did not result in the complete annihilation of the Afghan chiefs. They were seething with discontent against the newly founded alien rule, and only needed the guidance of one strong personality to coalesce their isolated efforts in to an organized national resistance against it. This they got in Sher Khan Sur, who effected the revival of the Afghan power and established a glorious, though short lived, regime in
India by ousting the newly established Mughul authority. The career of Sher Khan Sur, the hero of Indo-Muslim revival, is as fascinating as that of Babur and not less instructive than that of the great Mughul, Akbar. Originally bearing the name of Farid, he began his life in a humble way, and, like many other great men in history, had to pass through various trials and vicissitudes of fortune before he rose to prominence by dint of his personal merit. His grandfather, Ibrahim, an Afghan of the Sur tribe, lived near Peshawar and his father's name Hasan. Ibrahim migrated with his son to the east in quest of military service in the early part of Buhlul Lodi's reign and both first entered the service of Mahabat Khan Sur, jagirdar of the paraganas of Hariana and Bakhala in the Punjab, and settled in the paragana of Bajwara or Bejoura. After some time Ibrahim got employment under Jamal Khan Sarang Khani of Hissar Firuza in the Delhi district, who conferred upon
Ibrahim some villages in the paragana of Narnaul for the maintenance of forty horsemen in his service. Farid was born probably near Narnaul. Farid was soon taken to Sasaram by his father, Hasan, who had been granted a jagir there by his master, Umar Khan Sarwahi, entitled Khan-I-Azam, when the latter got the governorship of Jaunpur. Hasan, like the other nobles of his time, was a polygamist, and Farid's step-mother had predominant influence over him. This made him indifferent to Farid whereupon the latter left home at the age of twenty-two and went to Jaunpur. Thus the Afghan youth was forced into a life of adventure and struggle, which cast his mind and character in a heroic mould. For some time he devoted himself to study. By indefatigable industry and steady application, Farid early attracted the attention of his teachers at Jaunpur and quickly gained an uncommon acquaintance with the Persian language and literature. He was capable of reproducing from memory the Gulistan, Bustan
and Sikandar-namah. Being pleased with this promising youth, Jamal Khan, his father's patron, effected a reconciliation between him and his father, who allowed him to return to Sasaram and to administer the paraganas of Sasaram and Khawaspur, both then within the jurisdiction of Sarkar. The successful administration of those two places by Farid served to increase his step-mother's jealousy, and so leaving Sasaram once again he went to Agra. On the death of his father, Farid took possession of his paternal jagir on the strength of a royal foreman, which he had been able to procure at Agra. In 1522 he got into the service of Bahar Khan Lohani, the independent ruler of Bihar, whose favour he soon secured by discharging his duties honestly and assiduously. His master conferred on him the title of Sher Khan for his having shown gallantry by killing a tiger single-handed, and also soon rewarded his ability and faithfulness by appointing him his deputy (Vakil)
and tutor (Ataliq) of his minor son, Jalal Khan. But perverse destiny again went against Sher. His enemies poisoned his master's mind against him, and he was once more deprived of his father's jagir. "Impressed by the complete success of Mughul arms" and with the prospect of future gain, he now joined Babur's camp, where he remained from April, 1527, to June, 1528. In return for the valuable services he rendered to Babur in his eastern campaigns, the latter restored Sasaram to him. Sher soon left the Mughul service and came back to Bihar to become again its deputy governor and guardian of his former pupil, Jalal Khan. While the minor king remained as the nominal ruler of Bihar, Sher became the virtual head of its government. In the course of four years he won over the greater part of the army to his cause and "elevated himself to a state of complete independence". Meanwhile, the fortress of Chunar, luckily came into his possession. Taj Khan, the Lord of
Chunar, was killed by his eldest son, who had risen against his father for his infatuation with a younger wife, Lad Malika. This widow, however, married Sher Khan and gave him the fortress of Chunar. Humayun besieged Chunar in 1531, but Sher Khan had taken no part in the Afghan rising of that year and saved his position by a timely submission to the Mughul invader. The rapid and unexpected rise of Sher at the expense of the Lohani Afghans

[IslamCity] Hypocrite Danish Paper Refuses to Publish Holocaust Cartoons

2006-02-12 Thread Alan Border

“Boycotting of Non Essential Goods Services from Countries Organizations Which Are Hostile to Islam Muslim Interests, is an Effective Non Violent Method of Showing Our Displeasure. This Should Be an On Going Policy By Governments, Businesses Individuals NOT a Knee Jerk Reaction to a Particular Incident or Situation” Holocaust Cartoon Proposal Cannedhttp://www.jta.org/page_view_breaking_story.asp?intid=1293ref=daily_briefing(Comments in RED are Mine)The Danish newspaper at the heart of the Muslim cartoon furor backed off a plan to publish images lampooning the Holocaust. A senior staffer at the Jyllands-Posten daily, whose 12 images of the Islamic prophet Mohammed have sparked rioting across the Muslim world, proposed this week to run Holocaust cartoons being
commissioned by Iran’s largest newspaper. But the editor in chief of Jyllands-Posten, Carsten Juste, issued a statement of clarification, saying his paper “in no circumstances will publish Holocaust cartoons from an Iranian newspaper.”Comments – Mine Whether lampooning the Holocaust is right or wrong is a different subject.
This refusal highlights the hypocrisy double standards adopted by the Western world in their attitude to Islam Muslims. Only when they write something against Islam Muslims they try to hide under the “freedom of _expression_” banner. If it was freedom of _expression_ that made Jyllands- Posten newspaper to publish the blasphemous caricatures depicting our Prophet Muhammed (saws) why didn’t they uphold the same freedom of _expression_ and publish the cartoons submitted by Danish illustrator Christoffer Zieler in April 2003, dealing with the resurrection of Christ than send an email to him, which said:
"I don’t think Jyllands-Posten’s readers will enjoy the drawings. As a matter of fact, I think that they will provoke an outcry. Therefore, I will not use them". AB [EMAIL PROTECTED] "For to us will be their return; then it will be for us to call them to account." (Holy Quran 88:25-26)
