Reformist Muslims Announce a Cartoon and Drawing Competition about
  Muhammad and Islam.

As islamic reformers and progressive muslims, we believe that people
should have legal right to express their opinion or dissent without fear of
governments or mobs. In that regard, we applaud the people of Denmark for not
censoring their media. History has proven that truth and justice cannot
flourish in an environment of suppression and oppression. Though the
cartoonists depicted and insulted our beloved prophet Muhammad, a figure that
we consider dearer to us than our fathers and mothers, we stand by the rights
of cartoonists to express their views.
  Comment:
If Islam is the truth as these people claim then why is it in need of
reform, surely only things which are not valid or correct need reformation?
There is no moderate, progressive, fundamentalist or extremist titles in
Islam, you are either a practicing Muslim or one who is trying their best to
improve their practice of Islam based upon the understanding that we have been
created and put on this world by a creator who will test us in this life and
take our life at a fixed point in time. If these people think that freedom of
speech should be allowed to flourish and not restricted then why are they
offended when Islam is attacked and insulted? This group of people have been
severely influenced by the western culture and are trying to reconcile between
the truth and falsehood hence the contradictory message.

2006-03-01 Thread Syed Ghaziuddin
Dear brothers sisters in Islaam Assalaam Alaikum,

I love the way these girls are being brought up and nourished with
Islamic values and norms. It is a very good example to other girls to
observe Islamic teachings in terms of dress code and modesty. I very
much appreciate the efforts of their parents and their teachers who
helped them keep up their stand on Islamic teachings. May Allah (swt)
guide other girls and women who are not following the Islamic dress
Aameen.

Salaam aleykum

Isnt there the possiblity that they dont want to playw ith men around
and not their dads? Nt very nice thing to say. Other schools could
refuse to play with the girls, but the girls have their right to
refuse to play with men around. This isnt extreme at all. They are
observing their religious obligations.

You can always play in the gym or the backyard... but when you
want to play
a competitive game, don't go to this extreme that no man should be
around.
What is the point in making this a news item? Where is this going
to lead?
One of the girl says this We're not allowed to be seen by guys
without
(Islamic dress). We've all learned to accept that. . Sounds like
their fathers
are not allowing...and they have learned to accept it.

Girls basketball team won't play in front of men

 BY DEBORAH HORAN
 Chicago Tribune
CHICAGO - Duaa Hamoud holds a basketball to her hip. She is
standing in a
long blue gown in a gym at Bridgeview's Universal School. Her head
is covered
in a white scarf pulled tightly around her neck. Not a wisp of
hair is
 showing.
Around her, other high school girls dressed in similar flowing
robes shoot a
few casual baskets while they wait for practice to begin. There
are no men
in the gym - no male coaches, no boys from school, no dads or
brothers in the
 bleachers.
So when the coach arrives and the real training starts, they can
peel off
their Islamic dress, exposing their sweat pants and short-sleeved
T-shirts
 underneath.
We'd run if we noticed a man peeking in the window, Hamoud, 16,
explains.
We're not allowed to be seen by guys without (Islamic dress).
We've all
 learned to accept that.
But the girls can't accept that they have only been allowed to
compete
against girls basketball teams from other Muslims schools. There
are only four in
the Chicago area, they complain, and their competition isn't
exactly tough.
Since last year they've been beseeching Coach Farida Abusafa, a 26-
year-old
English teacher who also coaches sports, to ask public schools and
non-Muslim
private schools if their girls teams would be willing to compete
against
 girls from the Universal School.
The problem is that the schools would have to agree to bar men and
boys
above the age of puberty from watching the games.
It's not like it's a sin to play a public school, Abusafa said.
The
problem is the males coming to the game.
The dilemma underscores the balancing act many Muslims perform as
they
toggle between American and Middle Eastern culture. Many of the
these young girls
straddle the divide with ease, yapping on their cell phones at the
mall one
minute, observing the school's strict gender segregation the next.
But the
girls are also mindful of the challenges they face.
It's something you have to decide you want to do, said Shaylin
Najeeullah,
16, a member of the varsity basketball team. You can stay true to
what you
believe in or you can conform to everybody else and get lost.
The Universal School's principal, Farhat Siddiqi, said there was
no reason
the girls wouldn't be allowed to play teams from public schools or
other
private schools as long as the prohibition barring men was
strictly observed. But
she worried that parents from other schools might object, she
said.
I don't want to have to impose our religious requirements on
anyone else,
 Siddiqi said.
The Universal School, a co-ed private school located next to the
Mosque
Foundation near 93rd Street and Harlem Avenue, is already a member
of the
Illinois High School Association. So nothing would prevent the
girls from playing
other public or private schools, said Beth Sauser, assistant
executive director
of the association responsible for girls basketball.
They would have to contact whatever schools they want to play and
work it
 out

DINNER
OUTCOME | 2 MILLION FRIENDS

I

were
my

answering a few questions about Islam, and thanks to Allah for helping me resist
the Dawah temptations successfully, as we also talked about how the used car
sales people push you to buy something, you don’t even know about ... They
walked out in peace knowing that all of us are good human beings and we are all

Is

Do
you think that these people will defend ill talk about Muslims,
if they hear one?
Do
you think they will murmur when they see wrongs things about Muslims on TV?

It
may take more effort to get to that point, but goodwill goes a lot

inmates who seized control of much of the facility, officials said, adding that
at least 30 prisoners were wounded in attempts to quell the riot. As night fell,
government negotiators suspended talks to end the standoff at the notorious
Pul-i-Charki jail, which later this year is slated to receive dozens of Afghans
currently in US military custody at Guantanamo Bay. A police officer at the

quoted Haniyeh as saying in an interview: "If Israel declares that it will give
the Palestinian people a state and give them back all their rights, then we are
ready to recognise them." But Haniyeh told reporters in Gaza that he "did not
tackle the issue of recognising (Israel) in my interview with the Washington

said at the weekend that it wanted the row confined to the IAEA and not taken to
the security council, which can impose sanctions. The compromise on offer,
previously rejected by Iran, is that Russia would manufacture enriched uranium
for a civil nuclear programme in Iran, providing guaranteed supplies of nuclear
fuel.

The World Court is today due to start hearing Bosnia's claim for billions of
pounds in reparations from Serbia for the genocide against Bosnia in the 1992-95
war in former Yugoslavia. Bosnia first lodged the claim in 1993. It has taken
the panel of judges at the UN court, the International Court of Justice, 13
years to hear the case, a delay that has attracted criticism from human rights
activists and international legal experts. The Bosnian argument has to prove the
war was an international conflict and not, as Serbia claims, a civil war within
Bosnia.

[IslamCity] Fund Raising Campaign for Prophet Web Site

2006-03-01 Thread S A Hannan

Fund Raising Campaign for Prophet Web Site

  Al-Balagh's senior officials led by
Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi during their meeting in Doha.

By Farahat Al-Abbar, IOL Correspondent
DOHA, February 26, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) – Al-Balagh Cultural
Society, which owns IslamOnline.net, has launched a fund-raising campaign for
its new affiliate Web site on Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon
him), which will be launched on March 10 in response to Danish cartoons that
lampooned the prophet of Islam.
"I urge Muslims worldwide to translate their love for the prophet
into contributions to the 'Muhammad: Mercy for All' Web site,'" Al-Balagh Board
Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi said at a press conference in Doha on
Saturday, February 25.
"One has to translate his/her respect and love for the prophet
through concrete steps and this project is a token of our love."
Qaradawi, who heads the Dublin-based International Union of Muslim
Scholars (IUMS), said that Muslims should be "positive" in defending the prophet
"by acquainting the other with his life history, merits and
characteristics."
"Muslims have really proved their mettle in the wake of the
publication of the cartoons, but have not yet tried their best in removing
stereotypes about their prophet," Qaradawi added, referring to the massive
boycott of Danish products in the Muslim world.
The cartoons, one of them showing the Prophet with a bomb-shaped
turban, were first published last September in a Danish newspaper and since
reprinted in several European papers.
Any image of the Prophet -- let alone biting caricatures -- is
considered blasphemous under Islam.
"Mammoth Task"
Ibrahim Al-Ansari, the supervisor of the fund-raising campaign,
said the launch of a Web site on Prophet Muhammad is a "mammoth
task."
"We need $10 million to support the Web site, which will be
initially launched in English, then French and German; in other words, we need
three million dollars for each section," he said.
"This budget, however, can keep the Web site functioning for three
years," he said, adding that Spanish and Italian sections would be launched
later.
"We have already enough English materials and will put the French
and German pages online once we get the necessary cash."
Al-Balagh's Vice Chairman Ali Muhyealdin Al-Quradaghi said 282
English materials are being prepared for the online publication.
"We decided to take the initiative and launch this Web site," he
said.
IOL's Director General Tawfiq Ghanem said the new portal will serve
as an all-inclusive reference on the Prophet.
"We are using the IT language to introduce Islam," he
said.
The publication of the anti-Prophet cartoons have prompted Muslims
in many countries to champion local campaigns to raise awareness of the merits
and characteristics of the Prophet in the West.
Denmark has welcomed an initiative by Muslim preacher Amr Khaled to
visit the Scandinavian country with a host of Muslim youths to engage in a
dialogue with Danish youths and intellectuals.
The country is further planning a series of initiatives to build
bridges with the Muslim world
as bilateral relations badly soured after
the cartoons publication.

Iraqi Sunni, Shia hold joint prayersIraqi
Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and the Sunni leadership in the southern city of
Basra have held joint Sunni-Shia prayers in a show of unity following last
week's bomb attack on a Shia shrine. The joint prayers were held at the Grand
Basra Mosque yesterday. In a speech after the prayers al-Sadr urged Iraqis to
avoid civil discord and blamed the US occupation for the wave of sectarian
attacks sparked by the bombing of the al-Askari shrine in the city of Samarra.
He also urged his followers to resist the occupation 'by acts not by words'.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Jawad al-Khalisi, a revered Shia scholar, sent a delegation to
visit and help clean and reconstruct Sunni mosques that have been attacked after
the Samarra blast.

UN watchdog refuses to give Iran clean bill of
healthThe head of the world's nuclear watchdog declared
last night that he could not give Iran's nuclear programme a clean bill of
health, blaming Tehran for frustrating almost three years of inspections and
detective work by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency. The
verdict delivered by Mohamed ElBaradei, the head of the IAEA, set the scene for
a diplomatic battle next week in Vienna when the IAEA's 35-strong board is to
take the longrunning dispute to the UN security council in New
York.

EU 'grants' funds to Palestinian
AuthorityThe European Union has agreed to give $143
million in urgent aid for the Palestinian Authority before a government led by
Hamas takes office. Announcing the grant, the French foreign minister said the
aid funds were required to avoid 'economic chaos'. Earlier an international
envoy warned that the Palestinian Authority faced financial collapse within two
weeks because Israel has stopped reimbursing millions of dollars in customs
duties. Some 140,000 people are on the Palestinian Authority payroll, including
58,000 security
personnel.

Lahoud sees foreign plot to oust
himLebanese President Emile Lahoud, has accused 'foreign
powers allied to Israel' of planning to oust him in favour of the country's main
anti-Syrian coalition which has been calling on him to quit. In a letter to a
Lebanese daily newspaper published yesterday, Lahoud launched his most scathing
attack against the parliamentary coalition led by Saad al-Hariri, the majority
leader. An unnamed presidential palace official had previously singled out
France as one force supporting the anti-Syrian coalition to impeach the
president. Syria ended its 29-year military presence in Lebanon in April.
 Five people killed in
Saudi raidsSaudi security forces yesterday killed five
'militants' sought for a daring attempt to blow up car bombs inside a huge
oil-processing complex - an al-Qaida-claimed attack that made oil prices jump by
more than $2. In two simultaneous raids at dawn, security forces confronted the
five at a house in eastern Riyadh and detained a sixth at an undisclosed
location in the same part of the city. The men were killed in what officials
described as a "fierce" but brief gun battle. The security forces suffered no
casualties.

Somali interim parliament meetsSomalia's
interim parliament has held a session inside the war-torn country for the first
time. It is the 14th attempt to restore central government to Somalia, whose
last national president was overthrown by militias in 1991, ushering in an era
of anarchy. It was also the first parliamentary session since a meeting in
neighbouring Kenya last year ended with lawmakers brawling, throwing chairs and
smashing ballot boxes. The parliament met in Baidoa as it was considered a
neutral site by both factions in the divided government. Conflict and famine

US Muslims fight halal meat scamMuslims in
the US are willing to pay a premium for halal, and across the country halal
foods - and their look-alikes - are popping up in grocery store meat cases, on

with a little halal meat to justify Muslim-friendly labels and higher prices.
Others simply lie, preying on Muslims' trust and devotion. But legislators say
creating laws could put state governments in the touchy position of interpreting
religious rules.

The truth is out there!
U.S. WANTS HOLOCAUST RECORDS RELEASED; WILL PROVE FACTUALLY THAT ONLY 74,000
PEOPLE DIED IN WORLD WAR 2 CONCENTRATION CAMPS!!
Records from International Red Cross housed in Germany, but German
government says records should be kept secret.
Of course they want the records kept secret; those official records prove the
"holocaust" is a huge lie. If those records come out, it will prove that only
74,000 people died in those camps during WW2, and they died from disease and
starvation. . . . . nothing else. When the German People find out
they've been forced into collective guilt for 60 years over a LIE, they will
oust the German government. While the German government worries about
being ousted, jews are FAR more concerned. These records will expose jews as
having intentionally lied for decades. The records will prove that people in
those camps were reunited with their families but that many of those families
deliberately defrauded people for years; claiming benefits for a "holocaust"
which did not happen.Click

Dispute over Holocaust archiveBy a

A call to open up a huge archive about victims
of the Holocaust has sparked an international row.

The United States wants the files of the
International Tracing Service, which holds information on 17.5
million people, to be made available to historians. But Germany and
Italy and the archive are opposing the move over concerns that it
could lead to lawsuits claiming that personal details were given out
illegally, The New York Times reported. The archive,
held at Bad Arolsen, Germany, is based in part on documents gathered
by Allied forces as they liberated Nazi concentration camps.
The tracing service, part of the International Committee of the
Red Cross, has used the files to help people to uncover the fates of
relatives who disappeared during the Second World War.
The US says that because the task is now largely completed, the
archive should be opened and used for scholarly research.

[IslamCity] What Would Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Do?

2006-03-01 Thread Abu Nabhan

What Would Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Do? By Ibrahim Hooper[Ibrahim Hooper is National Communications Director for the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil liberties group. He may be contacted at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ]“You do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but you deal with them with forgiveness and kindness.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)That description of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad is a summary of how he reacted to personal attacks and abuse.Islamic traditions include a number of instances of the prophet having the opportunity to strike back at those who attacked him, but refraining from doing so.These traditions are particularly important as we witness outrage in the Islamic world over cartoons, initially published in a Danish newspaper, that were viewed as intentional attacks on the prophet.Peaceful and
not-so-peaceful protests have occurred from Gaza to Indonesia. Boycotts have targeted companies based in Denmark and in other nations that reprinted the offensive caricatures. We all, Muslims and people of other faiths, seem to be locked into a downward spiral of mutual mistrust and hostility based on self-perpetuating stereotypes. As Muslims, we need to take a step back and ask ourselves, “What would the Prophet Muhammad do?”Muslims are taught the tradition of the woman who would regularly throw trash on the prophet as he walked down a particular path. The prophet never responded in kind to the woman’s abuse. Instead, when she one day failed to attack him, he went to her home to inquire about her condition. In another tradition, the prophet was offered the opportunity to have God punish the people of a town near Mecca who refused the message of Islam and attacked him with stones. Again, the prophet did not choose to respond in kind to the
abuse.A companion of the prophet noted his forgiving disposition. He said: “I served the prophet for ten years, and he never said ‘uf’ (a word indicating impatience) to me and never blamed me by saying, ‘Why did you do so or why didn't you do so?’” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)Even when the prophet was in a position of power, he chose the path of kindness and reconciliation. When he returned to Mecca after years of exile and personal attacks, he did not take revenge on the people of the city, but instead offered a general amnesty. In the Quran, Islam’s revealed text, God states: “When (the righteous) hear vain talk, they withdraw from it saying: ‘Our deeds are for us and yours for you; peace be on to you. We do not desire the way of the ignorant’. . .O Prophet (Muhammad), you cannot give guidance to whom you wish, it is God Who gives guidance to whom He pleases, and He is quite aware of those who are guided.” (28:55-56)The Quran also says: “Invite (all) to
the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching, and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for thy Lord knows best who have strayed from His Path and who receive guidance.” (16:125)Another verse tells the prophet to “show forgiveness, speak for justice and avoid the ignorant.” (7:199)These are the examples that Muslims should follow as they express justifiable concern at the publication of the cartoons. This unfortunate episode can be used as a learning opportunity for people of all faiths who sincerely wish to know more about Islam and Muslims. It can also be viewed as a “teaching moment” for Muslims who want to exemplify the prophet’s teachings through the example of their good character and dignified behavior in the face of provocation and abuse. As the Quran states: “It may well be that God will bring about love (and friendship) between you and those with whom you are now at odds.” (60:7) Taken from: www.cair-net.org February 4, 20

[IslamCity] SAHABA E RASOOL SALALAHO ALAHAY WASALAM - HAZRAT KHABBAB IN AL ARATT R.A.

2006-03-01 Thread Saba Khan
A woman named Umm Anmaar who belonged to the Khuza'a
tribe in Makkah went to the slave market in the city.
She wanted to buy herself a youth for her domestic
chores and to exploit his labour for economic gains.
As she scrutinized the faces of those who were
displayed for sale, her eyes fell on a boy who was
obviously not yet in his teens. She saw that he was
strong and healthy and that there were clear signs of
intelligence on his face. She needed no further
incentive to purchase him. She paid and walked away
with her new acquisition.

On the way home, Umm Anmaar turned to the boy and
said:

What's your name, boy?
Khabbab.
And what's your father's name?
Al-Aratt.
Where do you come from?
From Najd.
Then you are an Arab!
Yes, from the Banu Tamim.
How then did you come into the hands of the slave
dealers in Makkah?

One of the Arab tribes raided our territory. They
took our cattle and captured women and children. I was
among the youths captured. I passed from one hand to
another until I ended up in Makkah . . .

Umm Anmaar placed the youth as an apprentice to one of
the blacksmiths in Makkah to learn the art of making
swords. The youth learnt quickly and was soon an
expert at the profession. When he was strong enough,
Umm Anmaar set up a workshop for him with all the
necessary tools and equipment for making swords.
Before long he was quite famous in Makkah for his
excellent craftsmanship. People also liked dealing
with him because of his honesty and integrity. Umm
Anmaar gained much profit through him and exploited
his talents to the full.

In spite of his youthfulness, Khabbab displayed unique
intelligence and wisdom. Often, when he had finished
work and was left to himself, he would reflect deeply
on the state of Arabian society which was so steeped
in corruption. He was appalled at the aimless
wandering, the ignorance and the tyranny which he saw.
He was one of the victims of this tyranny and he would
say to himself:

After this night of darkness, there must be a dawn.
And he hoped that he would live long enough to see the
darkness dissipate with the steady glow and brightness
of new light.

Khabbab did not have to wait long. He was privileged
to be in Makkah when the first rays of the light of
Islam penetrated the city. It emanated from the lips
of Muhammad ibn Abdullah as he announced that none
deserves to be worshipped or adored except the Creator
and Sustainer of the universe. He called for an end to
injustice and oppression and sharply criticised the
practices of the rich in accumulating wealth at the
expense of the poor and the outcast. He denounced
aristocratic privileges and attitudes and called for a
new order based on respect for human dignity and
compassion for the underprivileged including orphans,
wayfarers and the needy.

To Khabbab, the teachings of Muhammad were like a
powerful light dispelling the darkness of ignorance.
He went and listened to these teachings directly from
him. Without any hesitation he stretched out his hand
to the Prophet in allegiance and testified that There
is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His servant and
His messenger. He was among the first ten persons to
accept Islam.

Khabbab did not hide his acceptance of Islam from
anyone. When the news of his becoming a Muslim reached
Umm Anmaar, she became incensed with anger. She went
to her brother Siba'a ibn Abd al-Uzza who gathered a
gang of youths from the Khuza'a tribe and together
they made their way to Khabbab. They found him
completely engrossed in his work. Siba'a went up to
him and said:

We have heard some news from you which we don't
believe.

What is it? asked Khabbab.

We have been told that you have given up your
religion and that you now follow that man from the
Banu Hashim .

I have not given up my religion, replied Khabbab
calmly. I only believe in One God Who has no partner.
I reject your idols and I believe that Muhammad is the
servant of God and His messenger.

No sooner had Khabbab spoken these words than Siba'a
and his gang set upon him. They beat him with their
fists and with iron bars and they kicked him until he
fell unconscious to the ground, with blood streaming
from the wounds he received.

The news of what happened between Khabbab and his
slave mistress spread throughout Makkah like
wild-fire. People were astonished at Khabbab's daring.
They had not yet heard of anyone who followed Muhammad
and who had had the audacity to announce the fact with
such frankness and defiant confidence.

The Khabbab affair shook the leaders of the Quraysh.
They did not expect that a blacksmith, such as
belonged to Umm Anmaar and who had no clan in Makkah
to protect him and no asabEyyah to prevent him from
injury, would be bold enough to go outside her
authority, denounce her gods and reject the religion
of her forefathers. They realized that this was only
the beginning . . .

The Quraysh were not wrong in their expectations.
Khabbab's courage impressed many of his friends and
encouraged them to

[IslamCity] Article : Tolerance and Forgiveness: the Keys to Success

2006-03-01 Thread Curtis Sharif

Bismillah, Peace, Curtis Sharif Houston, TexasTolerance and Forgiveness: the Keys to Success Nura's eyes blurred with tears as she heard the Imam proclaim, "The Prophet, [sallallahu alayhe wa sallam (SAWS)] said, "Do not sever relations. Do not indulge in mutual enmity. Do not entertain rancor and jealousy against one another, and not be jealous of others. Be brethren among yourselves and become Allah's slaves. It is not permissible for a man to have severed his relations with any of his brethren for more than 3 days." (Bukhari) She realized then that almost six months had passed since the last time she spoke to Aisha, and now she could not even remember what their fight had been about. We all have had disagreements with our brothers and sisters, but why is it so wrong to harbor animosity? Why does Islam emphasize freeing the heart from hatred and
enmity? Even more dangerous is that harboring hatred will eat away at our faith. The Prophet said, "Listen, may I not tell you something more important than salah, fasting and charity?" The companions requested him to do so. He said, "To keep the mutual relationship on the right footing, because the defect in the mutual relationship is the thing which shaves a thing clean. I do not mean that it shaves the hair, but that it shaves (removes) the religion." (Tirmithi) Hatred consumes the heart, so much that we forget Allah's justice and mercy. Our gratitude to Allah is repelled by resentment of others. That is why Satan's favorite method for destruction is instilling enmity in the believer's heart. He uses this weapon to weaken the Muslim community and make it vulnerable to both physical and spiritual enemy attacks. Our physical enemies do not stand a chance
against the Muslim Ummah unless disunity has weakened it. Our spiritual enemies, Satan and our lower desires, do not stand chance against our faith unless animosity has weakened it. Most importantly, however, we should purify our hearts continuously to attain Allah's forgiveness, a blessing we all desperately need. The Prophet (SAWS), assured us that, "Every Monday and Thursday men's acts are placed before Allah. On these days, Allah forgives the sins of everybody, except the polytheists. However, if there is a person who has spite and hatred against his bother, he says about them, 'Leave these two alone in their condition till they reconcile." (Muslim) Clearly, purity of heart is a quality we must acquire, and so Allah, the Merciful, has given us the means to attain it. We should begin by keeping our hearts free from jealousy. The Last Messenger (SAWS), warned us, "Keep away from
jealousy, for jealousy eats up virtues in the same way as fire eats up wood." (Abu Dawud) We must realize that all blessings are from Allah, which He gives to whom He wills without measure. Failure to accept this and be grateful is rebellion against the will of Allah. This, in fact, was the crime of Satan when he refused to submit to Allah's ordinance to make Adam Allah's khalifah on Earth! Maintaining our brotherhood also means to never sever relations. The Prophet (SAWS), admonished us against this serious sin, "There are three persons whose prayer does not rise even a fist above their heads. One is that man who leads the prayers of others who do not like him. Second is that woman who spends her night in such a way that her husband is displeased with her. And third are those two brothers who have severed their relations with each others." (Ibn Majah) While it may seen that severing
relations is just aresult of harboring hatred, and not a cause, it actually prolongs and hardens angry feelings by allowing them to go unresolved. Even worse is that severing relations distorts our perception of the incident and causes us to become bitterer. Instead, we should rush to resolve disagreements. If our brother wronged us, we should give him sincere advice. If we wronged our brother, we must race to seek forgiveness from him and from Allah. The Prophet (SAWS), has instructed, "He who has harmed his brother's rights or has hurt his honor, then he should please him today, before the day comes when there will be neither Dirham nor Dinar with him. If he would have virtues, then they would be taken in proportion to the aggression that he had committed. If there would be no virtues in his record, then the evil deeds of the oppressed would be thrust into his account." (Bukhari)
We should also soften our hearts and forgive if we were wronged. This requires great inner strength, as was the case for Abu Bakr when his relative spread a rumor against Aisha. Though Abu Bakr was rightfully angry, but when he heard the verse, "Let them forgive and overlook; do you not wish that Allah should forgive you?" [Qur'an 24:22], he responded by pardoning his relative, saying, "I like that Allah may pardon me." Covering each other's faults is part of forgiveness, and comes with a great reward

February 23, 2006 is the 62nd anniversary of one
of the 20th century's worst genocides. It marks the day the Soviet Union,
under Josef Stalin, deported the entire Chechen nation to Central Asia,
killing massive numbers of the small nation.
In the upheaval of Russia's Bolshevik revolution, the
communist forces had failed to completely quell the mountaineers’
resistance. After a vicious nine-month war, perhaps the fiercest local
struggle in the Russian Civil War, the last Chechen rebel stronghold fell
in May of 1921. However, violence continued to flare up sporadically in
Chechnya, prompted by the Soviet's agricultural collectivization and
repressive security polices, particularly with regard to religion. In the
manner of their ancestors, Chechens would form small guerrilla groups and
  fight from the mountains.
After the German surrender in World War II, Stalin
accused several of the Caucasian nations in their entirety of collusion
with the Fascists. Against these nations he pronounced a sentence of
“likvidatsia”: liquidation. On February 23, 1944, tens of thousands of
Soviet troops herded the entire Chechen nation onto trains. Chechnya,
along with several other Caucasian republics, was emptied out. The plan
was to erase the Chechens, their history, and their culture. References to
them were stricken from the “Great Soviet Encyclopedia.”
Those who could not be transported, such as residents
of remote mountain villages, or patients in hospital, were executed. In at
least a couple of incidents, people were forced into barns or mosques that
were then burned down with all inside.
Soviet figures put the number of Chechens and Ingush
loaded on to the trains at 478,479. The "official" number dumped, freezing
and starving into the Kazakh steppes were 400,478—suggesting 78,000 had
died in transit, or shortly after arrival. That death toll is held by many
  to be conservative.
Sixty years later, the European Parliament recognized
the mass deportation and exile of the Chechen and Ingush nations as an act
  of Soviet genocide.
  The World Chechnya
Day Web site brings together an
invaluable collection of personal accounts of the genocide, a historical
account of the exile, and tracks events taking place around the world to
  mark the anniversary.
In remembrance of Russia’s past genocide of the

2006-03-01 Thread Curtis Sharif

Bismillah, FYI Peace, Curtis Sharif Houston, TexasHISTORY CHANNEL TO AIR 'SECRETS OF THE KORAN' - TOPhttp://www.historychannel.com/SECRETS OF THE KORAN, PART 1Premieres: Thursday, March 2 @ 9pm ET/PTThe Koran--one of the most influential religious books of all time. Muslims worldwide believe the Koran is God's guidance, a sourcebook to help believers follow the right path. But much of the non-Muslim world sees the Koran as a text shrouded in mystery...and controversy. We'll attempt to demystify and explain the text: where it came from, what it says, and what it means. Like any holy scripture, the
Koran can't be separated from its historical context. We'll examine the history of the verses and also their implications for modern times, as well as the striking similarities and differences between the Koran and the Bible--and the ways in which Muslims believe the Koran corrects some of the Jewish and Christian scriptures. The program will get at the heart of one of the world's holiest books, capturing its majesty and mystery and illuminating for the audience the very foundation of Islam.SECRETS OF THE KORAN, PART 2Premieres: Thursday, March 9 @ 9pm ET/PT In this hour, we explore what role the Koran has played throughout Islamic history. From the 500-year Golden Age of Islam, to the legendary clashes of Muslim and Christian forces during the times of the Crusades, we'll identify what influence the Koran had on the individuals living out those momentous events. We also look at the use of the word jihad, its meaning within the Koran, and how the concept has been
used by others including modern-day Islamic radicals. The messages in Islam's holy book have been used to launch some of the world's greatest civilizations, and at times its interpretations have been used as justification for acts of violence. We'll attempt to get at the heart of one of the world's holiest books, capturing its majesty and mystery, and illuminating for the audience the very foundation of Islam.-

{Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.}
(Holy Quran-16:125)

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.
[Muslim, Ahmad, Aboo Daawood, an-Nasaa'ee, at-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah]
