This is due to the fact that his practices, particularly in matters of religion, provide an example that we are urged by God to follow. The encouragement applies even in ordinary matters where no religious edict is needed and where people are free to choose whatever method they wish. In such matters, following the Prophets example earns us a reward. God states in the Quran: In Gods Messenger, you have a good example to follow, for those of you who hope to please God and to be successful on the Last Day. Therefore, the Prophets companions were keen to watch his practice for guidance and they reported what they saw
and heard. Scholars in succeeding generations have emphasized the need to follow the Prophets guidance and practice, outlining this and explaining it. Thus, we have a complete record of how the Prophet conducted himself even in his private and personal life. We learn how he behaved at home, what he used to do when resting and relaxing, how he talked, joked, ate and dressed. Books have been written on his character and behavior, in addition to what has been recorded about his public life and how he ran his community and state. It is acknowledged by all scholars that we are required to follow the Prophets example only in what pertains to faith and religion. But in private and personal matters such requirement does not apply. However, if we learn how the Prophet behaved in a certain situation and we follow his example with the intention of being close to him and learning from him, such intention earns us a reward from God. Thus, if we follow the Prophets example in how he sat when eating, we are not doing a religious duty or recommended practice, but our desire to do as he did is acknowledged by God and granted a reward. Therefore, scholars have recorded such private matters and ascertained that their reporting is accurate and authentic. Abbad ibn Tameem quotes his uncle saying that he saw Gods Messenger lying down in the mosque, with one of his legs over the other. [Related by Al-Bukhari, Muslim, Malik and
Al-Tirmidhi). This Hadith serves to tell us that it is permissible to lie down in a mosque, and the posture of the Prophet is perfectly permissible. Moreover, when we know that the Prophet did something in a particular fashion, it means that his way is not harmful.Al-Baraa ibn Azib, a companion of the Prophet, reports: When the Prophet lied down to sleep, he would put his right hand under his right cheek and say: My Lord! Protect me from Your punishment on the day You resurrect Your servants. (Related by Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood and Al-Baghawi). The supplication the Prophet used to say at a particular time is recommended for us to say, but the posture is not. However, it is a comfortable position that we may wish to try.Abu Qatadah reports: When the Prophet stopped at night for rest on a travel, he would lie down on his right side, and if he stopped before dawn, he would put up his arm and place his head on his palm. (Related by Muslim, Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi). The Prophet placed his hand under his head in the latter case because he wanted to be sure not to sleep long and miss the dawn prayers. Otherwise, if the night were still long, he would take a more comfortable position. To him, prayer was of extreme importance. Hence, he wanted to make sure not to miss it. Naturally the Hadiths describing the Prophets sleep mostly come from some who were closely related to him. His cousin, Abdullah ibn Abbas, who was young during
the Prophets lifetime, reports: I stayed overnight at Maymoonah (the last of the Prophets wives) when the Prophet woke up, relieved himself, then he performed the ablution in a middle-of-the-way fashion, making it complete but not too elaborate, then he prayed and completed his prayer in 13 rakahs, then he lied down and slept until his breathing was audible, which was his habit when he slept. Then Bilal called him for prayer and he prayed without performing a fresh ablution. (Related by Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and Al-Tirmidhi). Another Hadith which is similar in many ways is also reported by Ibn Abbas: I stayed overnight in the home of my maternal aunt Maymoonah, the Prophets wife when the Prophet was also staying there as it was her night. The Prophet prayed the obligatory prayer of Isha and came
home to her where he offered four rakahs of prayer before he went to sleep. He then woke up and said: The young lad is asleep, or words to this effect. He stood up for prayer and I joined him standing to his left, but he moved me to his right. He prayed five rakahs, then added two more rakahs, then he slept until I

1.Working on major interorganization unity of action and cooperation. Since this is quite differentfrommerging one organisation into major organisation , and making one organizations dominant or subservient to all other organization such an agenda is bound to fail, but cooperation in between major Muslim organization and complimenting each others efforts and not competing for resources whether those resources are human, financial, or material is a win win situation. I humbly submit this to you. Take a consistent and bold standthat I make it hallmark your tenure of your Ameership(amara) Shoora

2.The US fundraising in nonprofit organization is two hundred and fifty-billion dollars. Muslims form 3% of the population which means {250*03=7.50} Muslim organisationshave the potential to raise 7.5 billion dollars. All Muslim organizations put together are raising 50 million dollars that means there is promising potential increase of 7.5*1000/50 =2700 fold. There is not only room for imprtovement ; Muslim orgs have to think, adopting totally different strategy,which takes into account theU.S. LAWS; US TRADITIONS; How the Christian,Jewish other philonthropic org,s ; of course the current, post 9/11,2001 environment which in my opinion, has opened the flood gate of opportunities to Dawah to Non-Muslims.

Recently in India, a fact-revealing book has been published. The Book has been the topic of discussion and gossip all over the country.The author of this book, Pundit Vedaprakash Upadhyay, is a learned and famous Hindu professor. The book is Kalki Avatar. Pundit Vedaprakash Upadhyay is a Hindu Brahmin of Bengali origin. He is a research scholar at Allahabad University. After years of research, he published this book, and no less than eight pundits have endorsed and certified his points of argument as authentic. According to Hindu belief, the Hindu world awaits "the guide and leader", named Kalki
 Avatar. However, the description as given in the holy scriptures of the Hindu points only to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) of Arabia.Therefore, the Hindus of the whole world should not wait any longer for the arrival of Kalki Avatar (the spirit) and should readily accept Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as Kalki Avatar. These are the FACTS verified and supported by eight other eminent pundits. What the author says is that Hindus, who are still anxiously awaiting the arrival of Kalki Avatar, are simply subjecting themselves to never ending pain. Because, such a great messenger has already arrived and departed from this world fourteen centuries ago. The author produces the following sound evidences from the Vedas and other holy books of the Hindu religion in support of his claim:1. In the Puranas (Hindu scriptures), it is stated that Kalki Avatar would be the last messenger of God in this world. He would be for guidance of the whole world and all human beings.
 2. According to a Hindu religion prediction the birth of Kalki Avatar would take place in an isle, which again according to Hindu religion is Arab Region.3. In books of Hindus, the names of the father and the mother of Kalki Avatar are given as VISHNUBHAGAT and SUMAANI respectively. If we examine the meaning of these names we shall come to some very interesting conclusion. VISHNU (meaning God) + BHAGAT (meaning Slave). Slave of God = ABDULLAH (in Arabic) is the name of Prophet's (PBUH) Father. SUMAANI (meaning peace or calmness).Aamenah (in Arabic means peace) is the name of Prophet's (PBUH) Mother.4. In the religious books of Hindus, it is mentioned that the staple food of Kalki Avatar would be dates and olives and he would be the most honest and truthful person in the region. Without any doubt the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is acclaimed to possess these qualities. 5. It is stated in Vedas (holy book of Hindu Religion) that the
 birth of Kalki Avatar would take place in an honorable clan. This perfectly fits the Quraysh where Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) belonged to.6. God would teach Kalki Avatar through His messenger (angel) in a cave. Allah taught Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) through His messenger Jibraeel (Gabriel), in a cave known as Ghaar-e-Hira.7. God would provide Kalki Avatar with a very speedy horse to ride and travel the whole world and the seven skies. Indication of burraq (Horse) and Me'raaj (the night when Prophet [PBUH] travelled the seven skies). 8. God would provide Kalki Avatar with divine help. This was particularly proved in the Battle of Uhud.9. Another dazzling account given about Kalki Avatar was that he would be born on the 12th of a month. Whereas the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) was born on the 12th of Rabbi ul Awwal (Hijra Calendar). 10. Kalki Avatar would be an excellent horse rider and a swordsman.The author here draws the
 attention of Hindus that the real days of horses and swords have gone and the present time of guns and missiles. So it would be foolish on the part of those who still expect Kalki Avatar, who should be an excellent rider and swordsman to come. In fact, the divine book, the Holy Qur'an, contains qualities and signs attributed to Kalki Avatar reflecting on the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).   Regards  Muslim

The documentation relies primarily on published news accounts from mainstream media reports over the past several years, as well as the 2005 Report of the Independent Expert on the Situation of Human Rights in Afghanistan to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. McNamer said that some experts believe the legal basis for the war in Afghanistan is flawed to begin with, but that his primary concerns are based on factual evidence that the war is demonstrably criminal in its execution. The research brief documents substantial allegations of illegal torture; illegal and abusive detainments sometimes leading to deaths in custody; civilian deaths from bombing and other indiscriminate use of force, and collusion with illegal renditions of individuals to and from other
countries for purposes of torture. It also charges that Canada is in violation of international law for allowing illegal CIA torture flights to use Canadian air space and airports, saying there is a link between the flights and Coalition activities in Afghanistan. Canada is said to be in violation of international and Canadian law as well for its current policy of handing over detainees to American authorities, who do not treat them in accordance with the Geneva Conventions which Canada is bound by. The brief disputes Canadian military assurances that prisoners are being handled humanely by the U.S., pointing to a recently-leaked high-level British government document which admits the British have no idea whether or not detainees they are handing over to the U.S. in Afghanistan and Iraq are being sent to secret CIA detention centres for torture. The report details the worldwide system of an illegal CIA extraordinary rendition process of kidnapping people and
transporting them to various countries for torture. It says the process includes secret illegal dark prisons in Afghanistan where detainees may end up, and charges that Coalition forces act in support of and collusion with these illegalities. It notes recent news articles asserting that one U.S. prison in Afghanistan is said to be worse than Guantanamo Bay. McNamer said the information detailing Canadas role in Afghanistan has been sent out to Canadian peace activists and that he expects his report will be a topic of concern when activists gather in various cities March 18 for a day of protest against the invasion of Iraq. He said he sent a message to Canadian troops in Afghanistan offering to provide them with his complete report and the letter to Harper. The message was filed with the Department of National Defence website Write to the Troops, but McNamer said he is worried it may not get to the troops if
officials decide to censure it by not posting it. He told the troops that his message is not hostile to Canadian Force, and that he believes you have the right and obligation to understand that you may have personal responsibility for illegal actions you may be involved in while in Afghanistan, and the right to know what is being said about this situation in Canada. CAIRO, March 1, 2006 (IslamOnline.net) An Indonesian city
will impose a dress code for school girls to be dressed modestly when they
go to the classes as part of a wider conservative policy cracking down on
vice and immorality, an Indonesian daily reported on Wednesday, March
1.
"In the near future, all female elementary to high school
students will no longer be allowed to wear skirts that show their knees
and thighs," Tangerang mayor Wahidin Halim was quoted as saying by the
Jakarta Post.
"If the municipality is sticking to the akhlakul kharimah
(morality) vision, then society must also be akhlakul kharimah," he
said.
The dress code will not be enforced until the renovation of
221 schools in the city is over, the Post said, adding that
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono was scheduled to inaugurate the schools
next month.
Wahidin reiterated that his position had everything to with
fighting vice and preserving the moral values of society and was not
influenced by religion.
Friday Prayers
Tangerang municipality plans further to prohibit street
vendors from selling food outside mosques during Friday
prayers.
"The presence of street vendors at mosques is seen as a
public order disturbance. Therefore, I need the support of all layers of
society to issue the ban," Wahidin said.
Earlier in the month Wahidin vowed zero-tolerance for
violators of bylaws prohibiting the sale of alcohols and
prostitution.
Tangerang, an industrial town located 20 kilometers west of
Jakarta, is the second largest urban center in the Jabotabek region after
the capital Jakarta.
It has an estimated population of 3.2 million, according to
2005 statistics.
Indonesia is the most populous Muslim state where Muslims
make up 80% percent of the 220 million population.
Breaking an official silence, the Indonesian government
recently vocalized opposition to the planned debut of a local edition of
the raunchy magazine Playboy, admitting that its legal hands remain
tied.

How are you brothers and sisters Allahu Akbar, i am happy about what i have 
heard, Allahu Akbar!

I also would like to share some good news happening in my side. I am also a 
revert muslimah who struggle hard to learn my religion, and Alhamdulillah Allah 
guided me. And now, whatever i learned online i tried my best to share it to my 
new muslim sisters and non muslims friends who are also working here in saudi 
arabia.

Due to my promised to Allah that i am going to share my knowledge about Islam, 
i started doing dawah and every week, there 2-5 sisters embracing Islam, Allahu 
Akbar! Since i started last Dec, 2005, i witnessed so many non muslim women 
embraced Islam and some of them in tears while saying the shahada coz of the 
happiness they felt, Allahu Akbar. I do lecture every monday at least 1-2hours.

Pls, pray for them that may Allah guide them more and give them more knowledge 
about islam.

May Allah give us a strenght to spread Islam, Ameen!

This story was written by a Muslim doctor who worked in Africa. 

 One night I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward;  but 
in spite of all we could do she died leaving us with a  tiny 
premature baby and a crying two-year-old daughter. 

We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive, as we had no 
incubator. 
 (We had no electricity to run an incubator.) We also had no special 
feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator,  nights were 
often chilly with treacherous drafts. 

One student midwife went for the box we had for such babies and the 
cotton wool the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up 
the fire and fill a hot water bottle. 
 She came back shortly in distress to tell me that in filling the  
bottle, it had burst. Rubber perishes easily in tropical climates. 

 And it is our last hot water bottle! she exclaimed. 
It is no good crying over spilled milk, so in Central Africa it might 
be considered no good crying over burst  water bottles. They do not 
grow on trees, and there are no 
 drugstores down forest pathways. 

 All right, I said, put the baby as near the fire as you  safely  
can, and sleep between the baby and the door to keep it  free  from 
drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm. 
 The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers  with 
any of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. 

 I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray  about  
and told them about the tiny baby.  I explained our problem about 
keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle. The 
baby could so easily die  if it got chills. I also told them of the 
two-year-old  sister,  crying  because her mother had died.

 During the prayer time, one ten-year-old girl, prayed with  the 
usual blunt conciseness of our African children. Please,  Allah,  
she prayed, send us a water bottle. It'll be no good  tomorrow,  
Allah, as the baby will be dead, so please send it this afternoon. 

While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added  by 
way of a corollary, And while You are about it, would You  please 
send a dolly for the little girl so she'll know You  really  love 
her? 

As often with children's prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I  
honestly say, Ameen? I just did not believe that Allah  could do  
this. 

 Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything. The Holy Quraan says so. 
 But there are limits, aren't there? The only way Allah  could 
answer  would be for a package to arrive from the homeland. 

 I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had  
never, ever received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone  did  send 
me a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I  lived on  the 
equator! 

 Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the  nurses' 
training school, a message was sent that there was  a car  at my 
front door. By the time I reached home, the car had  gone,  but 
there, on the verandah, was a large twenty-two pound
 parcel. 

 I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel  alone,  
so I sent for the orphanage children. Together we pulled  off the  
string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper,  taking  
care not to tear it unduly. Excitement was mounting

. 
 Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large  
cardboard box. From the top, I lifted out brightly colored, knitted  
cotton  jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then there were 
the  knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children
 looked  a little bored. Then came a box of mixed raisins and  
sultanas- 
 that would make a batch of buns for the weekend. Then, as I put  my 
hand in again, I felt the...could it really be? I grasped it and  
pulled it out -- yes, a brand-new, rubber hot water bottle, I cried.  
I had not asked Allah to send it; I had not truly believed
 that He could.

The ten year old was in the front row of the children. She rushed 
 forward, crying out, If Allah has sent the bottle, He must have sent 
the  dolly,  too! 

Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the  small, 
 beautifully dressed dolly. Her eyes shone! She had never doubted.

 Looking up at me, she asked: Can I go over with you, Mummy, and 
 give this dolly to that little girl, so she'll know that Allah  
really  loves  her? 

 That parcel had been on the way for five whole months.  Packed up by 
my former school class, whose leader had  heard and obeyed Allah's 
prompting to send a hot water
 bottle, even  to  the equator. And one of the girls had put in a 
dolly for an
 African  child-  five months before -- in answer to the believing 
prayer of
 a ten-  year-old  to bring it that afternoon. 

 Before they call for prayer, I will answer all prayers!

precedent, said that war on terror military tribunals at the
Guantanamo naval base could allow evidence obtained through torture.

The US military officer presiding over the trial of an alleged aide to
Osama bin Laden said he was not ready to rule out such evidence.

The officer, who wields power similar to a judge, was asked by the
defense lawyer representing Ali Hamza Ahmad al-Bahlul, a Yemeni
accused of plotting terror attacks for bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network,
if he was ready to exclude all evidence secured through torture.

After a long pause, Colonel Peter Brownback declined to commit to a
blanket ban on evidence obtained as a result of torture.

What you and I mean by torture could be different, Brownback told
defense lawyer Major Tom Fleener.

He said a red-hot needle in the eye constitutes torture but was not
ready to commit to a prohibition in advance of the trial. My personal
belief is that torture is not good, he added.

But he said it would depend on the circumstances and how the
prosecution presented the evidence.

Bahlul's lawyer, who has the right to question the tribunal chief to
verify his client will receive impartial treatment, said he asked the
question because he alleged his client had been tortured while in
detention.

I believe Mr al-Bahlul was tortured, Fleener said.

He added that it's going to be an issue in the trial.

Brownback did say that how evidence was obtained would be a factor in
whether to admit such evidence and how to evaluate it.

After the hearing, US officers confirmed that the rules written for
the newly created military tribunals, or commissions, left the
question open. The rules also allow for hearsay evidence and other
exceptions to standard US and international legal norms.

Asked about evidence secured through coercion, a spokeswoman for the
military tribunals said the issue would be addressed by the officers
presiding over each trial.

I can't speculate on what a presiding officer is going to do in any
situation, Major Jane Boomer told a news conference.

Defense lawyers, human rights groups and European governments have
accused the United States of abusing and torturing detainees held at
the war on terror prison at the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba.

Brownback's comments are sure to reinforce concerns about how the US
government treats and prosecutes detainees held as part of the war on
terror.

The US military has denied systematic torture has been employed and
insisted that any isolated abuses have been punished.

Of some 500 detainees held at Guantanamo for more than four years,
Bahlul is one of 10 detainees formally charged by US military tribunals.

Addressing the tribunal in a courteous, articulate manner, Bahlul said
earlier he could not receive a fair trial if he was represented by a
US citizen.

Bahlul said the impact of the September 11 attacks, which he said had
left a deep psychological scar, meant that no US lawyer would be
able to argue effectively on his behalf.

It would be impossible for the counsel to push aside his feelings as
an American, said Bahlul, speaking through an interpreter.

He renewed his request to be allowed to represent himself, though
tribunal rules require that he accept a US lawyer, and asked for an
attorney from his native country.

He sought to clarify earlier comments that he was a member of
Al-Qaeda, saying that he did not have anything to do with the attacks
of September 11, 2001.

I had no connection to the events of September 11, he said.

Prosecutors allege he served as a propaganda specialist and bodyguard
for bin Laden in Afghanistan before he was captured in 2001 and
transferred to the controversial US-run detention camp at the
Guantanamo Bay US Naval Base in Cuba.

The presiding officer rejected Bahlul's request, saying he could have
a foreign citizen as a legal adviser but that the tribunal rules
barred him from representing himself.

After several hours, Bahlul chose not to return to the hearing
following a recess.

The presiding officer said he would not order Bahlul to be forcibly
taken to the tribunal if he refused to attend the hearing when it
resumed on Thursday.

Fleener, the defense lawyer assigned to Bahlul, said it was absurd
that Bahlul could not argue his own case. He cited US domestic and
military law as well as the Nuremberg war crimes trials, which he said
allowed for self-representation or for citizens of the same
nationality to serve as defense lawyers.

Believing the month of Safar is inauspicious, and particularly to believe that its first thirteen days are 'bad luck' or that it is harmful to marry or propose to marry or undertake a journey, etc., during these days are beliefs contrary to the teachings of Islam. In the pre-Islamic era people considered the month of Safar to be evil and ominous. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) strongly rejected such beliefs and ideas. The truth is, no time, day, month or date is evil in itself , but the deeds of people are either good or bad. The time spent in the performance of good deeds will be auspicious, and the time spent in sin and the disobedience of Allah Ta'ala will be evil and ominous. The month of Safar is not ominous. Evil deeds and incorrect beliefs are ominous and should be given up and repented for. It is incorrect to postpone or delay marriage or its proposal or
 a journey, etc. because of such beliefs. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, 'Belief in ill-omen is Shirk (polytheistic), (he said this thrice), and the owl's ominousness is nothing.' The Mushrikeen (polytheists) of Arabia used to believe that a house near which an owl screeches will be ruined, hence, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) refuted this belief as false. Thereafter, he said, 'There is nothing ominous about the month of Safar'. (Bukhari Vol.1 pg.857) The polytheists believed the month of Safar up to the 13th day to be inauspicious, hence, Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) rejected this superstition. It is therefore wrong for Muslims, who are the followers of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), to adopt the ways of the disbelievers and to entertain the very beliefs which he had come to abolish. MUHAMMAD IBN MASLAMAH 

Black, tall and sturdy, Muhammad Ibn Maslamah towered
above his contemporaries. He was a giant among the
companions of the Prophet, a giant in body and a giant
in deeds. 

Significantly he was called Muhammad even before he
became a Muslim. It would seem that his name was
itself a pointer to the fact that he was among the
first of the Yathribites to become a Muslim and to
follow the teachings of the great Prophet. (The name
Muhammad was practically unknown at the time but since
the Prophet encouraged Muslims to name themselves
after him, it has become one of the most widely used
names in the world.) 

Muhammad ibn Maslamah was a halif or an ally of the
Aws tribe in Madinah indicating that he himself was
not an Arab. He became a Muslim at the hands of Musab
ibn Umayr, the first missionary sent out by the
Prophet from Makkah to Madinah. He accepted Islam even
before men like Usayd ibn Hudayr and Sad ibn Muadh who
were influential men in the city. 

When the Prophet, peace be on him, came to Madinah, he
adopted the unique method of strengthening the bonds
of brotherhood between the Muhajirin and the Ansar. He
paired off each Muhajir with one of the Ansar. This
arrangement also helped to relieve the i mmediate
needs of the Muhajirin for shelter and food and
created an integrated community of believers. 

The Prophet was a keen observer of character and
temperament and was concerned to join in brotherhood
persons of similar attitudes and tastes. He joined in
brotherhood Muhammad ibn Maslamah and Abu Ubaydah ibn
al-Jarrah. Like Abu Ubaydah, Muhammad ib n Maslamah
was quiet and pensive and had a strong sense of trust
and devotion. He was also brave and resolute in
action. He was a distinguished horseman who performed
feats of heroism and sacrifice in the service of
Islam. 

Muhammad ibn Maslamah took part in all the military
engagements of the Prophet except the expedition to
Tabuk. On that occasion, he and Ali were put in charge
of an army which was left behind to protect Madinah.
Later in life, he would often relate scenes of these
battles to his ten children. 

There are many instances in the life of Muhammad ibn
Maslamah which showed what a dependable and
trustworthy person he was. Before the start of
hostilities at the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet and the
Muslim force numbering some seven hundred persons
spent a night in an open camp. He put fifty men under
the command of Muhammad ibn Maslamah and entrusted him
with the task of patrolling the camp the whole night.
During the battle itself, after the disastrous rout of
the Muslims by the Quraysh during which abo ut seventy
Muslims lost their lives and many fled in every
possible direction, a small band of the faithful
bravely defended the Prophet till the tide of battle
turned. Muhammad ibn Maslamah was among them. 

Muhammad ibn Maslamah was quick to respond to the call
of action. He once stood listening to the Prophet as
he spoke to the Muslims about the designs of some of
the Jewish leaders in the region. 

At the beginning of his stay in Madinah, the Prophet
had concluded an agreement with the Jews of the city
which said in part: 

The Jews who attach themselves to our commonwealth
shall be protected from all insults and harassment.
They shall have equal rights as our own people to our
assistance...They shall join the Muslims in defending
Madinah against all enemies...They shall no t declare
war nor enter in treaty or agreement against the
Muslims. 

Jewish leaders had violated this agreement by
encouraging the Quraysh and tribes around Madinah in
their designs against the state. They were also bent
on creating. discord among the people of Madinah in
order to weaken the influence of Islam. 

After the resounding victory of the Muslims over the
Quraysh at the Battle of Badr, one of the three main
Jewish groups in Madinah, the Banu Qaynuqa was
especially furious and issued a petulant challenge to
the Prophet. They said: 

O Muhammad! You really think that we are like your
people (the Quraysh)? Don't be deceived. You
confronted a people who have no knowledge of war and
you took the chance to rout them. If you were to fight
against us you would indeed know that we arc men. 

They thus spurned their agreement with the Prophet and
issued an open challenge to fight. The Qaynuqa however
were goldsmiths who dominated the market in Madinah.
They were depending on their allies, the Khazraj, to
help them in their declared war. The Kh azraj refused.
The Prophet placed the Banu Qaynuqa's quarters under a
siege which lasted for fifteen nights. The
fainthearted Qaynuqa finally decided to surrender and
ask the Prophet for a free passage out of Madinah. 

The Prophet allowed them to leave and the tribe - men,
women and children - left unharmed. They had to leave
behind them their arms and their goldsmith's
equipment. They settled down at Adhraat in Syria. 

The departure of the Qaynuqa did not end Jewish
feelings of animosity towards the Prophet
