shifting inmates of the Gauntanamo Bay detention centre to some other place. He did not specify. He said seven Pakistani national were still there while many other had been repatriated by the US authorities.Earlier, the minister said these prisoners were in the Abu Ghuraib Jail in Iraq and some of the news channels air footage about them. But later he retracted his statement and clarified that he was talking about the Gauntanamo Bay detention centre and not the Abu Ghuraib jail.Referring to the holding of general elections, he said that fresh elections would be held in 2007 and President General Pervez Musharraf would continue as president for the next five years if elected by the parliament. President Musharraf should be re-elected anew to
acknowledge his services and for pulling the country out of economic and political imbroglios, the minister said. Some people say the Prophets are alive in their graves, is this true? Please give me evidence.In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,The belief (Aqidah) of the mainstream Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamaah is that our beloved Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) and all the other Prophets are alive in their graves.This life is physical and worldly (dunyawiyyah), and not just a spiritual one with the sole (barzakhiyyah), as the latter is common for all the people. They are usually involved in performing Salat and worshiping Allah (out of their own choice and not binding on them), and we can normally not see or feel them.This was the Aqidah held by the Sunni Muslims throughout the ages, and many books in Arabic have been written on this subject. The great Imam Suyuti (Allah have mercy on him) compiled a whole work on this subject titled Inba al-Azkiya bi Hayat al-Anbiya (Informing the intelligent regarding the living of the Prophets), in which he quoted many evidences in support of this belief. Similarly, other scholars such as: Imam al-Bayhaqi, Imam Abd al-Wahhab al-Sharani and Imam Ibn al-Qayyim in his book al-Ruh (The Soul) have also written and gathered evidences with regards to this.Evidences on the prophets remaining alive in their graves:There are many evidences in the Quran, Hadith and sayings of the predecessors regarding the prophets remaining alive after death. Some are reproduced here:1) Allah Most High says:And question thou (O Muhammad) our Messengers whom we sent before you. Did we appoint any deities other that Allah, Mot gracious, to be worshiped? (Surah al-Zukhruf, 45).Many commentators (mufassirun) of the Quran have stated in their respective exegeses that the living of the Prophets can be proved from this verse (See: Durr al-Manthur of Suyuti, Ruh al-Maani by al-Alusi and others).2) Allah Most High says:And say not of those who are martyred in the way of Allah, they are dead, nay, they are living, though you perceive it not (Surah al-Baqarah, 154).Regarding this verse, the great Hadith expert (hafidh), Imam Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (Allah have mercy on him) states in his monumental commentary of Sahih al-Bukhari, Fath al-Bari:When the living of the martyrs is proven from the text of the Quran, then this is also proven from an analogical point of view. And the Prophets are superior then the martyrs (Fath al-Bari, 6/379).3) Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the night of Isra, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) passed by the grave of Sayyiduna Musa (Allah bless him), and found him performing Salat in his grave (Recorded by Imam Muslim in his Sahih, and others).4) Anas ibn Malik narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) said: The Prophets are alive in their graves performing Salat (Recorded by al-Bayhaqi in his Hayat al-Anbiya and Abu Yala in his Musnad).The above Hadith has been authenticated by many Hadith scholars, such as: Ibn Hajar, al-Haythami, Ali al-Qari, al-Munawi, al-Shawkani and others.5) Aws ibn Aws narrates the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) as saying: Send salutations in abundance on me on Friday, as your sending salutations are presented to me. The Companions inquired: How is it possible that you receive our salutations when your body will have been decayed? The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) said: Verily Allah has made forbidden on the earth that it eats the bodies of the Prophets (Recorded by Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Majah, Darami and others, and authenticated by many, such as Ibn al-Qayyim).6) Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) said: None of you greets me except that Allah returns my soul on me until I return his greeting (Musnad Ahmad, 2/527 and Sunan Abu Dawud, 1/279).7) Anas ibn Malik narrates that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) said: The Prophets are not kept in their graves for more than forty nights, but they remain worshiping Allah until the trumpet will be blown (Sunan al-Bayhaqi).Due to the fact that there are many narrations regarding the living of the Prophets (of which only a few have been reproduced as an example), Imam al-Suyuti (Allah have mercy on him) is of the view that these narrations have reached the level of certainty (tawatur).8) The great Hadith master, Hafidh Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani (Allah have mercy on him) states: Death will never come to the blessed Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) in his grave, rather he will

ISLAMIC BELIEF OFFINALITY OF PROPHETHOODACCORDING TO THE QURAN, THE SUNNAHAND CONCENSUS OF UMMAH BYMAULANA MUHAMMAD YUSAF LUDHIANVI You may print this document and read at your pleasure. The holy Quran and the holy Prophet's Ahadith (teachings) eloquently prove that prophethood (nabuwwat and risalat) came to an end with our Prophet Muhammad(SAW). There are decisive verses to that effect. Being the last Prophet in the chain of prophethood, no one ever shall now succeed him to that status of dignity. "Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but (he is) the Messenger of Allah, and the Seal of the Prophets: and Allah has full knowledge of all things."(Holy Quran, 33:40) Interpreters of the Holy QuranAll the interpreters of the Holy Quran agree on the meaning of Khatam-un-Nabieen that our Prophet(SAW) was the last of all prophets and none shall be exalted to the lofty position of prophethood after him. Here are a few examples: Imam Hafiz Ibn-e-Katheer (Allahs mercy on him)"This verse is conclusive of the precept that our Prophet(SAW) is the last and that there shall be no Nabi (Prophet) after him. When there shall be no Nabi to follow him, the ordainment of a Rasool (Messenger) can not arise by logic of anteriority because the status of a Rasool is more exclusive then that of a Nabi. Every Nabi is not a Rasool, but every Rasool is a Nabi. There exists a continuous and unbroken chain of recitations of Ahadith from a large number of venerable sahabah or Companions of the Prophet (Allah be pleased with them), that there shall be no Nabi or Rasool after Muhammad(SAW)". (Tafseer Ibn-e-Khateer, Vol. 3, P. 453)Note: Every prophet is called a Nabi whether he was given shariat or not; and the prophet who was given a shariat is called a Rasool. Hujjat ul Islam, Imam Ghazali"No doubt the Ummah (all Muslims) has unanimously understood from this word (Khatam-un-Nabieen) and its circumstantial reference to mean non-existence of a Nabi or Rasool ever after Muhammad(SAW) and that (this word calls for) no reservation or tacit interpretation in it; hence its dissident is certainly the one who rejects the Ummah's unanimity". (Al Iqtisad fil Etiqad, P. 123) Finality of Prophethood and AhadithThe Prophet(SAW) unequivocally declared that he was the final Prophet. There are a large number of Ahadith to sustain this article of Islamic faith. Not only that but the Prophet(SAW) was also pleased to bring forth such expositions of this word (Khatam-un-Nabieen) that all doubts relating to his finality in prophethood stand void and misinterpretations exposed. Many people having theological distinctions to their credit have stressed upon the unbroken and consecutive nature of those Ahadith which concern finality of prophethood. Opinions of some of them are quoted below: Hafiz Ibn-e-Hazam says on page 77 of his Kitab-ul-Fasl:"All those personages who have dwelt upon the subject of Muhammad'(SAW) prophethood, his miracles and expounded the holy Quran, have stated that he(SAW) had informed that there would be no prophet after him". Hafiz Ibne-Khateer writes under the caption, "finality of prophethood":"And on this (Finality of Prophethood) there have come from Allah's Messenger(SAW) "mutawatir" (absolutely certain and numerous) Ahadith which have by an unbroken chain of his companions (Allah be pleased with them)". Allama Syed Mahmood Aloosi writes in Tafseer Roohul-Mani:"That he (Muhammad(SAW)) was the final prophet, is ordained by the Quran, acknowledged by the Sunnah and agreed upon by the Ummah; hence a claimant to the contrary will be (determined as) Kaffir (unbeliever) and put to death if he is persistent".To conclude therefore finality of prophethood is an article of faith by the Qurans text and Mutawatir Ahadith. Some are reproduced below: HADITH: (1)The Last BrickFrom Abu Huraira, (Allah be pleased with him): Allahs messenger(SAW) said:Certainly my example and the example of prophets earlier than me is like the example of a palace most elegant and most beautiful constructed by a person except (that he left in it) a blank space for a brick in one of its corners and that made the people (who were) going around it wonder (at its marvellousness) and exclaimed (in perplexion): Why not is this brick inlaid in here! The Prophet(SAW) said, I am that (corners last) brick and I am the last of the prophets.Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 1, p.501 Sahih Muslim, Vol. 2, p.248 The above Hadith is also related by Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah, (Allah be pleased with him,) and is included in Musnad Ahmad, Sahih Muslim and Jama-e-Tirmizi. Sahih Muslims narration ends with theses words: Said Allahs messenger(SAW) So I am in place of this brick; I came and so I completed the chain of the prophets.The above Hadith is also related by Hazrat Abi bin Kaab, (Allah be pleased with him,) as

Clearly, the sect of the Salafs state that it is shirk to do this act of worship and it breaks the Aqeedah of tawheed, even the people of the city of Saudi Arabia have dislike in this, and this Aqeedah has even been adopted by the Imams and Khateebs of the Harmain (two sacred Harams). Please give your words of wisdom on this controversial issue? In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful,Tawassul (using intermediaries in supplication to Allah Most High) through the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace), Awliya and righteous believers is permitted, rather recommended according to the four schools of Sunni Islamic law.This has been the mainstream belief held by scholars of this Ummah throughout the eras. The Salaf (predecessors) from the earliest generations had this understanding and this has been the way of the four Sunni Madhhabs in Fiqh.The meaning of Tawassul is: To ask Allah Almighty through the medium and intercession of another person. For example, one says: O Allah! I ask forgiveness for my sins through the Wasila (intercession) of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace).Tawassul can be carried out through ones own righteous deeds, the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), righteous people who have passed away and those who are still alive. All these types of Tawassul are permitted and acceptable.The permissibility of Tawassul is proven from the Quran, Sunnah, continued practice of the Ummah and reason.Some of the proofs on the validity of Tawassul:1) Allah Most High says:O you who believe! Fear Allah and seek a means (wasila) to him (Surah al-Ma'ida, V: 35)The word Wasila (a means of approach) in its general indication includes Tawassul (intercession) by persons, and through actions.2) Allah Almighty says:If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you (O Muhammad, Allah bless him give him peace) and asked Allahs forgiveness, and the Messenger of Allah had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed forgiving and Most Merciful. (Surah al-Nisa, V: 64)These two verses are clear on the permissibility and recommendation of Tawassul. The distinction made by some, between the living and the dead in this matter only comes from one who believes in the perishing of souls upon death, which would lead to denying resurrection.Also, when one uses Tawassul in supplication, one does not ask and seek from other than Allah Almighty. Only the high position, status and rank of the person through whom Wasila is carried out is used as intercession. In other words, the servant is saying: O Allah! This certain Prophet or servant of yours is very close to you. I do not possess any good deeds, but I have love for the pious. O Allah! Pardon me and forgive my sins due to this love and connection I have with this pious servant of yours.Now, every person with a sound mind will determine that there is no reason to distinguish and differentiate between the living and the dead. This is the reason why scholars such as Imam Subki, Hafidh Ibn Kathir, Imam an-Nawawi (Allah have mercy on them all) and many others have declared the permissibility of Tawassul through the righteous, whether alive or passed away to the Mercy of Allah.3) Imam al-Tirmidhi (Allah have Mercy on him) and others relate from Uthman ibn Hunaif (Allah be pleased with him):A blind man came to the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) and said: I've been afflicted in my eyesight, so pray to Allah for me. The Prophet (Allah bless him give him peace) said: Go perform ablution (Wudu), perform two Rakat Salat and then say: O Allah! I ask you and turn to you through my Prophet Muhammad, the Prophet of Mercy. O Muhammad! I seek your intercession with my lord for the return of my eyesight, that it may be fulfilled. O Allah! Grant him intercession for me. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) then said: and if there is some other need, do the same. (Recorded by Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa'i, Tabrani and others, with a sound chain of narrators).The express content of this Hadith proves the legal validity of Tawassul through a living person. It implicitly proves the validity of Tawassul through a deceased person, as Tawassul through a living or dead person is not through a physical body or through life or death, rather, through the positive meaning attached to the person in both life and death.4) Moreover, Imam Tabrani relates in his al-Mujam al-Kabir reporting from the same Uthman ibn Hunaif (Allah be pleased with him) that a person repeatedly visited him concerning something he needed, but Uthman paid no attention to

observation of the sky; they navigated according to the stars, and told time according to the motion of the sun and themoon. This was the simplest and the most reliable system available for them.Most people are unaware of the perfect correlation between the Julian and the lunar calendar: 235 lunar months corresponds exactly to 19 Julian years of 365 1/4 days, (228 months). The length of our year of 365 days is not perfect because it has to be rectified every four years (with a leap year). With the lunar calendar, the same phenomena occur every 19 Julian years. The Quran refers to this relationship between the lunar and the Julian systems as follows: Surah 18, Ayah 25 "So they stayed in their cave three hundred years, and nine (more)" The literal translation of the above Ayah replaces "and nine" by "increased by nine." This suggests that one has to be careful about each word or
letter in the Quran. The latest calculation of the lunar month is 29.53059 days. Therefore, the lunar year is 12 x 29.53059 = 354.36708 days. This means that 300 Julian year (300x365.25= 109575 days) is equivalent to 309 lunar years (354.36708x309= 109499.43). This is a miraculous accuracy. Therefore the above Ayah can be explained as "So they stayed in their cave three hundred solar years, and increased by nine lunar years". This is just an amazing revelation from the Creator of time. Only Allah knows the exact time of any event in any reference of time. Surah 18, Ayah 26 "Say: Allah knows best how long they stayed"

Agencies) Danish Muslims are planning to take the publication of
cartoons lampooning Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) by a
Danish newspaper to the United Nations.
"The UN is the natural place for us to file our
complaint," Agence France-Presse (AFP) quoted Qassem Said, spokesman for
the Danish Islamic Community, as telling the Ritzau national news agency
Friday, March 17.
The Islamic Community, an umbrella body grouping 27
Muslim organizations in Denmark, said it will take the cartoon issue to
the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva.
Said had told IOL in January, that the Muslim minority
would take the case to the EU human rights commission if rejected in
Denmark.
"Muslims living in the Islamic world have greater
confidence in the United Nations than in the European Union," he
said.
The move comes after Denmark's State Prosecutor
Henning Fode turned down Wednesday, March 15, charges against daily
Jyllands-Posten over its publication of the Prophet
cartoons.
"The state attorney's ruling was lousy," stressed
Said.
Twelve cartoons, including one showing the Prophet
with a bomb-shaped turban, were first published by the daily in September
and later reprinted by several newspapers worldwide on claims of freedom
of _expression_.
The drawings, considered blasphemous under Islam, have
triggered massive and sometimes violent demonstrations across the Muslim
world.
Breaching
Akkari said Denmark has breached
UN human rights conventions by failing to censure
Jyllands-Posten.
Danish Muslims have blasted the Danish prosecutor's
decision not to press charges against Jyllands-Posten as a breach
of UN human rights convention.
"Our point is that in failing to censure
Jyllands-Posten, Denmark has committed a breach of its duties as a
signatory of UN conventions on human and political rights as well as
international agreements on the elimination of all forms of racial
discrimination," said Ahmad Akkari, spokesman for the European Committee
for Honoring the Prophet.
The Danish prosecutor said that the mass-circulation
daily did not violate the Danish freedom of _expression_ laws by
commissioning and printing the cartoons.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and
the Arab League, the Muslim world's two main political bodies, are seeking
a UN resolution, backed by possible sanctions, to protect religions
following the publication of the provocative cartoons.
Muslim dignitaries and organizations have also called
for the enactment of an international law banning the publication of any
insults to religious symbols and values.
EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and European
External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner recently suggested
that the EU and the OIC co-draft a UN resolution promoting religious
tolerance.
Danish Muslims are estimated at 180,000 or around
three per cent of Denmark's 5.4 million.
Islam is Denmark's second largest religion after the
Lutheran Protestant Church, which is actively followed by four-fifths of
the country's population.

As a new exhibition opens, Paul Vallely nominates 20 of the most influential- and identifies the men of genius behind them 1 The story goes that an Arab named Khalid was tending his goats in the Kaffa region of southern Ethiopia, when he noticed his animals became livelier after eating a certain berry. He boiled the berries to make the first coffee. Certainly the first record of the drink is of beans exported from Ethiopia to Yemen where Sufis drank it to stay awake all night to pray on special occasions. By the late 15th century it had arrived in Mecca and Turkey from where it made its way to Venice in 1645. It was brought to England in 1650 by a Turk named Pasqua Rosee who opened the first coffee house in Lombard Street in the City of London. The Arabic qahwa became the Turkish kahve then the Italian caffé and then English coffee. 2 The ancient Greeks thought our eyes emitted rays, like a laser, which enabled us to see. The first person to realise that light enters the eye, rather than leaving it, was the 10th-century Muslim mathematician, astronomer and physicist Ibn al-Haitham. He invented the first pin-hole camera after noticing the way light came through a hole in window shutters. The smaller the hole, the better the picture, he worked out, and set up the first Camera Obscura (from the Arab word qamara for a dark or private room). He is also credited with being the first man to shift physics from a philosophical activity to an experimental one.3 A form of chess was played in ancient India but the game was developed into the form we know it today in Persia. From there it spread westward to Europe - where it was introduced by the Moors in Spain in the 10th century - and eastward as far as Japan. The word rook comes from the Persian rukh, which means chariot.4 A thousand years before the Wright brothers a Muslim poet, astronomer, musician and engineer named Abbas ibn Firnas made several attempts to construct a flying machine. In 852 he jumped from the minaret of the Grand Mosque in Cordoba using a loose cloak stiffened with wooden struts. He hoped to glide like a bird. He didn't. But the cloak slowed his fall, creating what is thought to be the first parachute, and leaving him with only minor injuries. In 875, aged 70, having perfected a machine of silk and eagles' feathers he tried again, jumping from a mountain. He flew to a significant height and stayed aloft for ten minutes but crashed on landing - concluding, correctly, that it was because he had not given his device a tail so it would stall on landing. Baghdad international airport and a crater on the Moon are named after him.5 Washing and bathing are religious requirements for Muslims, which is perhaps why they perfected the recipe for soap which we still use today. The ancient Egyptians had soap of a kind, as did the Romans who used it more as a pomade. But it was the Arabs who combined vegetable oils with sodium hydroxide and aromatics such as thyme oil. One of the Crusaders' most striking characteristics, to Arab nostrils, was that they did not wash. Shampoo was introduced to England by a Muslim who opened Mahomed's Indian Vapour Baths on Brighton seafront in 1759 and was appointed Shampooing Surgeon to Kings George IV and William IV.6 Distillation, the means of separating liquids through differences in their boiling points, was invented around the year 800 by Islam's foremost scientist, Jabir ibn Hayyan, who transformed alchemy into chemistry, inventing many of the basic processes and apparatus still in use today - liquefaction, crystallisation, distillation, purification, oxidisation, evaporation and filtration. As well as discovering sulphuric and nitric acid, he invented the alembic still, giving the world intense rosewater and other perfumes and alcoholic spirits (although drinking them is haram, or forbidden, in Islam). Ibn Hayyan emphasised systematic experimentation and was the founder of modern chemistry.7 The crank-shaft is a device which translates rotary into linear motion and is central to much of the machinery in the modern world, not least the internal combustion engine. One of the most important mechanical inventions in the history of humankind, it was created by an ingenious Muslim engineer called al-Jazari to raise water for irrigation. His 1206 Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices shows he also invented or refined the use of valves and pistons, devised some of the first mechanical clocks driven by water and weights, and was the father of robotics.
