[IslamCity] New Member
Hello all, I am a new member, also new to Islam. I am still learning and studying, I have a ways to go. I figured this would be a great place to learn a few things. I have run into a few things that mad me think of some questions, but I will introduce myself first. I am 21, living in Japan on an Air Force base. I am a Senior Airman in the USAF, married, no kids(yet). I was raised Lutheran, but since my teens have had a sort of religous identity crisis. Lately I have been reading up on Islam, and this leads me to the questions I have. Any help or direction to a site/book would be appreciated. I read that Muslims cannot have a pet dog. Is this true and if so, why? Could I convert to Islam, and my wife remain her current faith(Roman Catholic)? Those are a few of my many questions, but I'll do this one leg at a time. Thank you very much, and nice to meet you! RE: [IslamCity] Verse of the day
Whoever you are! STOP spreading false versessuchas those you statedbelowand DO NOT attribute themtoward The Glorious Quran Allah's Holy Words. Thereare no such verses in the Glorious Quran in "Chapter 45 Jathiya". It seamssombody is trying to fulfill his Anti Muslim , Anti Quran Aganda. BEAWARE OF SUCH LIARS! The Glorious Quran says Ch 45: 7. Woe unto each sinful Liar. 8. Who heareth the revelations of Allah receive unto him, and then continueth in the pride as though he heard them not. Give him tidings of a painful doom. 9. And when he knoweth aught of Our revelations he maketh it a jest. For such there is a shameful doom. 10. Beyond them there is hell, and that which they have earned will naught avail them, nor those whom they have chosen for protecting friends beside Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom. 11. This is guidance. And those who disbelieve the revelations of their Lord, for them there is a painful doom of wrath. The above verses speak themselves very clearly about the Liar. May Allah (SWT) protect HIS message from falsehood and falsemonger. This is also the responsibility of (islamcity@yahoogroups.com) to verify such quotations before posting and sending to massemails. [IslamCity] THE SHIA AND THE QURAN
BY ABU ILYAS CHISHTI SABIRI THE HOLY QUR'AN IS THE LAST REVEALED BOOK OF ALLAH TAUGHT AND EXAMPLIFIED THROUGH THE AGENCY OF THE LAST OF THE PROPHETS, MUHAMMAD . THE MUSLIMS BELIEVE THAT THE QUR'AN HAS BEEN PRESERVED IN ITS PRESTIVE PURITY AS REVEALED TO THE PROPHET (SAW) ABOUT 1400 YEARS AGO, FOR ALLAH HAS TAKEN ON PERVERSION OR CORRUPTION OF THE TEXT: WE HAVE SURELY SENT DOWN THE QUR'AN AND WE SHALL CERTAINLY PRESERVE THE SAME FROM CORRUPTION (15 : 9). HOWEVER, THE SHIAS IN THEIR HEARTS OF HEARTS BELIEVE THAT THE QUR'AN AS IS AVAILABLE TODAY IS ALTERED, CORRUPTED AND PERVERTED FORM. ACCORDING TO THEM THE PRESENT QUR'AN IS ABRIDGED AND THE SHIAS PER FORCE BELIEVE THE SAME AS QUR'AN -- BUT IT IS ONLY A STOP GAP BELIEF (VIDE MAJALISUS-SIA, PP. 147--149). THE SHIITES CALL THE QURAN, NOTE BOOK OF USMAN. THEY CONSIDER THE PRESENT QUR'AN AS COMPILED BY HAZRAT ABU BAKR (R.A), HAZRAT UMAR (R.A) AND HAZRAT USMAN (R.A) WHOM THEY CONSIDER USURPERS OF HAZRAT ALI'S CALIPHATE, UNBELIEVERS AND RENEGADES. THE FACT IS THAT THE WHOLE QUR'AN WAS REVEALED TO THE HOLY PROPHET (SAW) WHO GOT IT WRITTEN ON SLABS OF BONES, STONES AND PARCHMENTS ETC. AND IT WAS MEMORISED BY MANY SAHABAH AND RECITED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE HOLY PROPHET (SAW). NOTWITHSTANDING THE SHIA ALLEGATIONS, EVEN EUROPEAN ORIENTALISTS CONSIDER THE QUR'AN TO BE THE ONLY RELIGIOUS SCRIPTURE IN THE WORLD FREE FROM ANY TAMPERANCE AND EXISTING IN ITS PRESTINE PURITY. THE POSITION TAKEN BY THE SHIAS IS TANTAMOUNT TO THE DENIAL OF THE DENIAL OF THE GENUINESS OF THE QUR'AN AND S A NECESSARY COROLLARY IT AMOUNTS TO THE CANCELLATION OF THE SHARI'AH BASED ON THE QUR'AN WHICH THE LAST MESSENGER OF ALLAH HAD BROUGHT FOR THE GUIDANCE OF MANKIND. TO DENY THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE QUR'AN WOULD MEAN SHIAS HOWEVER, DO NOT DENY THE QUR'AN BY WAY OF TAQIYAH, IN ORDER TO DEFRAUD THE MUSLIMS. NOW HERE ARE SOME OF THE TEXTS (FROM THE BOOKS OF THE SHIA TEMSELVES) WHICH BRING OUT THE FAITH OF THE SHIA CONCERNING THE QUR'AN. THE GREAT SHIITE MUHADDITH, AL-KULAINI, RELATES IN HIS BOOK AL-KAFI ON THE AUTHORITY OF IMAM JAFFAR SADIQ WHO IS REPORTED TO HAVE SAID: THE QUR'AN WHICH GABRIEL HAD BROUGHT DOWN UNTO MUHAMMAD CONTAINED SEVENTEEN THOUSAND VERSES. (P. 634, VOL. II). IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT THE VERSES OF THE QUR'AN DO NOT EXCEED A LITTLE OVER SIX THOUSAND VERSES. IT MEANS THAT WITH THE SHIA, TWO THIRD OF THE QUR'AN IS EXTANT. THIS IS SUPPORTED WHO IS REPORTED TO HAVE SAID: A CERTAIN PERSON RECITED UNTO ABU ABD ALLAH (IMAM JAFFAR SADDIQ) A VERSE (FROM THE QUR'AN) AND I WAS LISTENING TO THE LETTERS FROM THE QUR'AN WHICH PEOPLE GENERALLY DO NOT RECITE IN THAT MANNER. ABU ABD ALLAH ASKED HIM: ABSTAIN FROM THAT READING. READ IT AS THE PEOPLE READ IT, TILL AN IMAM (LEADER), TWELFTH IMAM IS COMMISSIONED. WHEN THE TWELFTH IMAM IS COMMISSIONED, HE WILL READ THE BOOK OF ALLAH, THE MIGHTY, THE MAJESTIC. HE WILL READ IT IN HIS OWN PECULIAR WAY. HE WILL TAKE OUT THE COPY OF THE QUR'AN WHICH ALI WROTE IN HIS OWN HAND. THEN HE ADDED: ALI BROUGHT IT OUT FOR THE PEOPLE WHEN HE HAD FINISHED WITH ITS TRANSCRIPTION. (ALI) SAID TO THE PEOPLE: THIS IS THE BOOK OF ALLAH, THE MIGHTY, THE MAJESTIC, AS ALLAH HAD REVEALED IT UNTO MUHAMMAD-PEACE OF ALLAH BE UPON HIM AND UPON HIS POSTERITY -- AND I HAVE COLLECTED IT IN THE TWO BOARDS ( ). PEOPLE SAID: WE DO HAVE WITH US A COMPLETE COPY OF THE QUR'AN: WE DO NOT NEED YOURS. (ALI) SAID: YOU WILL NEVER FIND IT AGAIN AFTER THIS DAY: IT WAS HOWEVER MY BOUNDEN DUTY TO TELL YOU THAT I HAVE COLLECTED THE QUR'AN THAT YOU MAY READ IT. (AL-KAFI, TEHRAN, VOL. 2, P. 633). SUCH NARRATIVES ARE NOT ONE OR TWO: THERE IS A LARGE NUMBER OF SUCH SHIITE NARRATONS WHICH TELL US THAT THE QUR'AN IS NOT GUARDED AND PRESERVED FROM INTERPOLATION, ALTERATION AND CORRUPTION. THIS QUR'AN WHICH EXISTS WITH US IS NOT THE QUR'AN OF THE SHIAS. BUT THIS QUR'AN ACCORDING TO THEM, IS PARTLY DISTORTED AND PARTLY PERVERTED AND CORRUPTED. KAMAL AL-DIN MAISAM AL-BAHRANI MENTIONS IN HIS COMMENTARY ON THE NAHJ AL-BALAGHA, SOME OF THE OBJECTIONS RAISED BY THE SHIA AGAINST CALIPH UTHMAN IBN AFFAN - MAY ALLAH THE ALMIGHTY BE PLEASED WITH HIM. OF THESE OBJECTIONS IS THAT (UTHMAN) GATHERED THE PEOPLE ON THE QIRA'A (READING) OF ZAID IBN THABIT IN PARTICULAR, AND BURNT THE REST OF THE COPIES OF THE QUR'AN AND IN OTHER WORDS, HE CANCELLED THAT WHICH WAS UNDOUBTEDLY THE REVEALED PART OF THE QUR'AN (P-I). WHAT HAS BEEN ATTRIBUTED TO ALI IN THE PRECEDING PARAGRAPHS IS A PIOUS FRAUD IN KEEPING WITH THE SHIA TRADITIONS. ALI WAS A BRAVE MAN WHO COULD NOT KNOWINGLY CONCEAL OR DISREGARD THE TRUTH. WHEN IN POWER, ALI DID NOT PRODUCE HIS OWN COPY OF THE QUR'AN. NOTHING COULD DETER HIM FORM PUBLISHING THE TEXT OF HIS OWN COPY, IF IT ALL DIFFERED FROM THE POPULARLY ACCEPTED COPY OF THE QUR'AN. ON NOT A SINGLE OCCASION DID ALI QUOTE ANYTHING OF THE REVEALED TEXT FROM HIS OWN COPY WHICH WAS NOT TO BE FOUND IN THE PRESENT MUSHAF (COPY OF THE QUR'AN). THE BOOK NAHJ AL-BALAGHA IS AN ELOQUENT TESTIMONY TO THIS

Authorities said all 33 prisoners in the lockup were freed and 10 attackers were killed in the pre-dawn battle yesterday. As many as 100 insurgents, armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, stormed the judicial compound in Muqdadiyah, about 90km northeast of the capital. After burning the police station, the attackers detonated roadside bombs as they fled, taking the bodies of many of their dead comrades with them, police said. At least 13 police officers and civilians and 15 assailants were wounded in the attack. Pakistan test fires nuclear-capable cruise missilePakistan yesterday successfully test-fired a nuclear-capable cruise missile for the second time, without informing rival India, officials said. The terrain-hugging Hatf VII Babur missile has a range of 500 kilometres (310 miles) and can carry all kinds of warheads. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf witnessed the launch and congratulated the scientists involved, a military statement said. The foreign office said it did not inform its nuclear-armed rival India about the latest launch. There was no immediate reaction from New Delhi. Algeria admits killing 17,000 'Islamists' The Algerian government said on Tuesday its forces killed 17,000 'Islamist rebels' during the conflict of the 1990s, the first time it had issued a figure for anti-government casualties for the decade. The total was announced at a news conference for journalists by the Algerian prime minister, who did not say who he believed was responsible for the other 180,000 deaths, mostly civilians, resulting from the conflict. The authorities normally blame the rebels for the bloodshed of the period. The country was plunged into conflict when the authorities cancelled a legislative election that a now-banned 'radical Islamic' party was poised to win in 1992. Egypt reports fourth human case of deadly bird flu virusA 17-year-old Egyptian has been infected with the deadly bird flu virus, the fourth case of human infection reported in Egypt in less than a week, the health minister said yesterday. The infected teen is a son of an owner of a chicken farm where thousands of infected poultry were culled recently. The teen, only identified as a student, is receiving medical care and his condition is stable. The man is from Gharbiya, a province in the Nile Delta near Qalyoubiya where the three other cases were discovered. On Friday, a woman who had reportedly been raising chickens in her home died of the avian virus. Iranian group threatens to kill captives Terrorist group warns it will kill in IranAn group calling itself the Sunni Jundullah (Soldiers of God) has threatened to kill seven Iranians being held in an undisclosed location after being kidnapped in Iran. In a video on Tuesday, the group accused the hostages of working for the Iranian army, intelligence service and the Red Crescent. The video showed the seven hostages and one of their captors, who threatened to kill the hostages unless the Iranian government releases five colleagues of the group. The group also claimed responsibility for what it called the Zabul Operation, in which 22 Iranian soldiers were killed, a group member said in the video. Israel 'reopens' Gaza crossingIsrael has reopened the only trade crossing into the Gaza Strip for the second time in two days amid continued UN warnings of a food shortage. After a visit to the crossing, the Gaza chief of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said the 'partial reopening' did little to ease Palestinian hardships. He said the crossing was only operating at 10% of its capacity and called on all involved to open it up fully. Before the crossing was opened on Tuesday, a Zionist representative said: "We will reopen Karni on a temporary basis to dozens of trucks carrying foodstuffs, but we will close it immediately in case of threat of a terrorist attack." Bush suggests US troops will still be in Iraq in 2009President Bush yesterday suggested that US troops will be in Iraq at least until 2009 and said he would only withdraw them if the situation appeared hopeless. Asked whether all US forces would someday leave the war-torn country, Bush, whose term ends in January 2009, said: "That, of course, is an objective. And that will be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq." In a wide-ranging Press conference, the embattled president also hinted at rifts in the diplomatic approach to Irans nuclear program, saying, "Its important for our citizens to understand that weve got to deal with this issue diplomatically now," he said. "If the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, they could blackmail the world." Abu
[IslamCity] Chalmer Johnson: The military industriell complex is ruining America
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/HC23Aa01.html PART 1: Cold warrior in a strange land By Tom Engelhardt As he and his wife Sheila drive me through downtown San Diego in the glare of midday, he suddenly exclaims, Look at that structure! I glance over and just across the blue expanse of the harbor is an enormous aircraft carrier. It's the USS Ronald Reagan, he says, the newest carrier in the fleet. It's a floating Chernobyl and it sits a proverbial six inches off the bottom with two huge atomic reactors. You make a wrong move and there goes the country's seventh-largest city. Soon, we're heading toward their home just up the coast in one of those fabled highway traffic jams that every description of southern California must include. We feel we're far enough north, he adds in the kind of amused tone that makes his company both alarming and thoroughly entertaining, so we could see the glow, get the cat, pack up, and head for Quartzsite, Arizona. Chalmers Johnson, who served in the US Navy and now is a historian of US militarism, lives cheek-by-jowl with his former service. San Diego is the headquarters of the 11th Naval District. It's wall-to-wall military bases right up the coast, he comments. By the way, this summer the Pentagon's planning the largest naval concentration in the Pacific in the post-World War II period! Four aircraft-carrier task forces - two from the Atlantic, and that's almost unprecedented - doing military exercises off the coast of China. That afternoon, we seat ourselves at his dining-room table. He's 74 years old, crippled by rheumatoid arthritis and bad knees. He walks with a cane, but his is one of the spriest minds in town. Out the window I can see a plethora of strange, oversized succulents. In the distance, the Pacific Ocean gleams. Johnson is wearing a black T-shirt that, he tells me, a former military officer and friend brought back from Russia. The shirt sports an illustration of an AK-47 on its front with the inscription Mikhail Kalashnikov in Cyrillic script, and underneath, The freedom fighter's friend, a product of the Soviet Union. On the back in English, it says World Massacre Tour with the following list: The Gulf War, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Angola, Laos, Nicaragua, Salvador, Lebanon, Gaza Strip, Karabakh, Chechnya ... To be continued. Johnson, who served as a lieutenant junior grade in the US Navy in the early 1950s and from 1967-73 was a consultant for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), ran the Center for Chinese Studies at the University of California, Berkeley for years. He defended the Vietnam War (In that I was distinctly a man of my times ...), but is probably the only person of his generation to have written, in the years since, anything like this passage from the introduction to his book Blowback: The problem was that I knew too much about the international communist movement and not enough about the United States government and its Department of Defense ... In retrospect, I wish I had stood with the anti-war protest movement. For all its naivete and unruliness, it was right and American policy wrong. Retired, after a long, provocative career as a Japan specialist, he is the author of the prophetic Blowback: The Costs and Consequences of American Empire, published in 2000 to little attention. After September 11, 2001, it became a best-seller, putting the word blowback, a CIA term for retaliation for US covert actions, into common usage. He has since written The Sorrows of Empire, Militarism, Secrecy, and the End of the Republic. He is just now completing the final volume of his Blowback Trilogy. It will be titled Nemesis. Sharp as a tack, energetic and high-spirited, by turns genuinely alarmed and thoroughly sardonic, he's a talker by nature. Our encounter is an interview in name only. No one has ever needed an interviewer less. I do begin with a question that has been on my mind, but it's hardly necessary. Tomdispatch: Let's start with a telltale moment in your life, the moment when the Cold War ended. What did it mean to you? Chalmers Johnson: I was a Cold Warrior. There's no doubt about that. I believed the Soviet Union was a genuine menace. I still think so. There's no doubt that, in some ways, the Soviet Union inspired a degree of idealism. There are grown men I admire who can't but stand up if they hear the Internationale being played, even though they split with the communists ages ago because of the NKVD [Soviet secret police agency, a forerunner of the KGB] and the gulag. I thought we needed to protect ourselves from the Soviets. As I saw it, the only justification for our monster military apparatus, its size, the amounts spent on it, the growth of the military-industrial complex that [president Dwight] Eisenhower identified for us, was the existence of the Soviet Union and its determination to match us. The fact that the Soviet Union was global, that it was extremely powerful, mattered, but none of us fully anticipated

Muslims in the USA and elsewhere in the world are carrying out Dawah efforts individually and collectively at different levels. However, the prevailing socio-economic-political condition of Muslims around the world is somehow presenting a different picture that is far from satisfactory. It is confusing that a civilization that dominated the world for over a thousand years now stands at the lowest ebb of its influence. A Deen that is claiming to hold the panacea to eradicate the evils from human society, uphold the cause of poor, needy and have-nots and fill the earth with justice to all and malice to none is no where visible as a political entity. It is being considered by the materialistically âdevelopedâ nations of the world as the âreligionâ of by-gone days. Hence the Daâees in the field are confronting a lot of discriminatory and disgusting questions from our adversaries and they have no choice but to address them one way or the other.I too have been facing such situation in the field of Dawah Ilallah. Last week I have received a list of such questions from a Christian brother. I attended them in my humble way and shared with many brothers who liked the answers. In order to clear the vast confusion that exists in the minds of the Judeo-Christian community as a whole, I am appending below those question and their answers with the idea that Muslim brothers and sisters will use them in their dialogues with the other two Abrahamic faiths in their neighborhoods and at work places with confidence. In case, they face further questions, they are requested to forward it to me and I will, Insha Allah, attend them promptly to the best of my knowledge and the Tawfeeq of Allah (SWT). Hope they will find this process productive. It would yield some good results ultimately, Insha Allah. The addressee is a Christian brother from CA. I started the answer with the comment:âKindly note that Islam is aperfect system of life and, physically speaking, you are already "fifty percent Muslim". If youwould havegone through my book: "The Greatest Need of Man" on the Website, as requested earlier, you could have gotits explanationby the time? You will become complete Muslim when you will accept the authority of Allah and His Prophet Mohammad (S) by your freewill. That is a matter of choice. The answers of your questions are as follows:You have put to me ten questions. I will attend them in the same order. and then give a short comment at the end. Hope you will please go through it carefully and come to right conclusion. 1. Why so many sects in Islam? Answer: First please answer: why so many sects in Christianity and 64 Version of the Bible? When people do not follow the Scripture in its letter and spirit, they deviate. It is true with every Guidance that came from God. But Islam has a beauty thatit is always available in its purest forminthe shape of the Qur'an and life pattern of Muhammad(S). Muslims can return to it at any time when theyresolve to do sowhereas in other religions, the original teachings, unfortunately, are practically

[IslamCity] Bahrain Conf. on How to Defend Prophet Kicks Off
Bahrain Conf. on How to Defend Prophet Kicks Off The conference's logo. Additional Reporting by Wessam Fauad, IOL Correspondent MANAMA, March 22, 2006 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) - Some 300 Muslim scholars open a two-day conference in Bahrain Wednesday, March 22, in support of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) following the row over his depiction in cartoons in European papers. The scholars, preachers, heads of Islamic associations as well as Arab and Muslim community leaders from Europe will explore a strategy aimed at preventing a repeat of the crisis sparked by the publication of the cartoons first by a Danish newspaper, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP). "Our goal is to agree on plans and mechanisms to defend the Prophet through the thought-out reactions of Muslims," conference spokesman Sheikh Nasser Al-Fadala said. The Manama gathering is to open Wednesday evening with an address by its chairman Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, whose International Union of Muslim Scholars is one of the conference's organizers. Other organizers include "Islam Today" of Saudi Sheikh Salman Al-Odah. The speech will be followed by a debate on "the roots of Western views of Islam" and the "greatness and sacred status of the Prophet." The participants include popular London-based Egyptian television preacher Amr Khaled and British preacher Yusuf Islam. Six imams from Denmark, where the controversy originated, will attend the conference led by Ahmad Abou Laban and Ahmad Akkari. Twelve cartoons, including one showing the Prophet with a bomb-shaped turban, were first published by Danish daily Jyllands-Posten in September and reprinted by European newspapers on claims of freedom of _expression_. The meeting comes the day after Britain's Prince Charles criticized the cartoons furor and appealed to religious leaders to foster common values in a speech at Cairo's Al-Azhar university, the oldest seat of Sunni learning. Avoiding Violence Qaradawi is head of the conference. Sheikh Adel Al-Muawda, one of the organizers, said that the Manama conference is meant to educate Muslims about ways of securing their rights while avoiding negative practices such as the violent cartoon protests. "The scholars attending the conference will underline that Sharia`ah (Islamic law) bans such practices," he said. The 12 drawings provoked violent protests across the Muslim world where they were condemned as blasphemous. The caricatures also triggered a boycott of Danish products in Muslim countries, costing the Danish economy hundreds of millions of dollars. Leading Muslim scholars denounced attacks on foreign embassies in Muslim countries but urged other ways to show anger such as an economic boycott of countries which published the cartoons. "We believe that the incident was because of ignorance about the Prophet," Soliman Al-Buthi, another conference spokesman, told Reuters. "An economic boycott is one of the ways to combat the ignorance and protest about what has happened, but we need to educate the West about who the Prophet was and to have an open dialogue with the West," Buthi said. The participants have set ambitious goals such as "regulating relations between Islam and the West" and "unifying the Muslims' positions on religious issues." Deliberations will go on until Thursday evening, when participants will announce a series of "recommendations" for an international campaign to defend Islam and its Prophet. The conferees will further focus on how to remove Western stereotypes on Islam and the Prophet through media and the Internet. Al-Balagh Cultural Society, which owns IslamOnline.net, has launched a fund-raising campaign for its new affiliate Web site on Prophet Muhammad, which was launched Tuesday, March 21, in response to Danish cartoons that lampooned the prophet of Islam. [IslamCity] Protestors to wear Muhammed Saw cartoons this sat in london
Action Alert: Protestors to wear T-shirts with Muhammad Cartoons at Rally this Saturday IHRC urges all campaigners to contact the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor's office to request that they uphold the law and prohibit demonstrators from carrying Islamophobic placards and t-shirts at a 'March for Free _expression_' this Saturday 25 March 2006. 1. Background A 'March for Free _expression_' is to take place this Saturday 25 March 2006 in Trafalgar Square between 2 and 4 pm. The official purpose of the demonstration is stated to be to support freedom of _expression_ but in reality, it appears to be virulently Islamophobic and racist in nature. The organisers, Peter Risden and Patrick Vidaud, have permitted demonstrators to wear t-shirts bearing the offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and even supply a link on their website to another website where such t-shirts can be purchased. Furthermore, slogans which are being debated to be written on placards include, 'Islam, putting the world at war', 'Islam is a blast', Muhammad was a Sex Offender' and 'Death to Iran'. It is noteworthy that Muslim demonstrators were arrested earlier this month for carrying placards deemed offensive. In addition, Nick Cohen, in an article in the Observer on 19 March labelled Muslims who demonstrated against the cartoons as "the brown far right" and "Islamic fundamentalists" demonizing all Muslims as Nazis and fascists when it is actually Muslims who are the current victims of this neo-fascism. Although ostensibly the organisers have stated that the BNP are not welcome, there is much evidence to indicate that many elements of the Far Right will be present on the day. For example, a fascist group 'Civil Liberty', which is lead by BNP North-East organiser Kevin Scott, has issued a call on its website for its supporters to attend the march. It is worrying that an event that appeals to the Islamophobic right is also supported by amongst others British Humanist Association, Ekllesia (a Christian monitoring group), the National Secular Society, UKIP, and Peter Tatchell. This event will set a dangerous precedent will be set whereby Islamophobic groups can use the issue of civil liberties as an excuse to demonise Muslims and Islam. This is not free speech or debate; this is vilification akin to the demonisation of Jews in Nazi Germany. For more information about the march, its organisers and supporters, please visit http://marchforfreeexpression.blogspot.com/ 2. Suggested Action Earlier this month, Muslim demonstrators were arrested for carrying offensive and provocative placards protesting the publication of the cartoons. IHRC is asking campaigners to contact the Metropolitan Police and the Mayor's Office and ask that the law be implemented equally and that any demonstrators holding offensive and provocative placards and t-shirts be similarly arrested. Sir Ian BlairChief Commissioner of Metropolitan PoliceNew Scotland YardBroadwayLondon SW1H 0BG [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please also contact the Mayor's Office to make him aware that this demonstration is not about freedom of _expression_ but vilification and hatred of Islam and Muslims. It is unthinkable that demonstrators would ever be given permission to use Trafalgar Square to display anti-Semitic or racist caricatures and rightly so. This seems to be further evidence that Muslims have become second-class citizens in Britain today. Although I have no issue with the march itself taking place, I am very worried about the nature of the march and the level of Islamophobia it will fuel. The organisers have permitted demonstrators to wear t-shirts bearing the offensive cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and even supply a link on their website to another website where such t-shirts can be purchased. Furthermore, slogans which are being debated to be written on placards include, 'Islam, putting the world at war', 'Islam is a blast', 'Muhammad was a sex offender' and 'Death to Iran'. My concern is that this march will be very provocative and disturb the peace as it will promote Islamophobia and racism. Many elements of the Far Right will be present on the day, including 'Civil Liberty', a fascist group lead by BNP North-East organiser Kevin Scott. Other supporting

Anyone need more evidence that shariah and Islam are two different things?-- G. Waleed Kavalec-Why are we all in this handbasketand where is it going so fast? Afghanistan says court to decide fate of convert By Sayed Salahuddin 18 minutes ago Under mounting international pressure over the case of a man facing the death penalty for converting to Christianity, Afghanistan said on Wednesday that its judiciary alone would decide the case. U.S. President George W. Bush said he was deeply troubled by the case of Abdur Rahman, who an Afghan judge said this week had been jailed for converting from Islam to Christianity and could face the death penalty if he refused to become a Muslim again. Death is one of the punishments stipulated by Sharia, or Islamic law, for apostasy. The Afghan legal system is based on a mix of civil and sharia law. We in Afghanistan have the prosecutor who observes the law and the court that executes it. Whatever the court orders will be executed as the court is independent, said Mahaiuddin Baluch, a religious affairs adviser to President Hamid Karzai. Bush said in Wheeling, West Virginia: It is deeply troubling that a country we helped liberate would hold a person to account because they chose a particular religion over another. We have got influence in Afghanistan and we are going to use it to remind them that there are universal values, he said. The United States and three other NATO allies with troops in Afghanistan on Tuesday urged respect for religious freedom. German Chancellor Angela Merkel added her voice to those of Western leaders expressing concern. In response, Afghan Economy Minister Mohammad Amin Farhang criticized the heated and emotional reactions of German politicians and said proposals there to withdraw German troops in protest amounted to blackmail against Karzai's government. INTERFERENCE We don't interfere in Germany's internal affairs or in running court cases, he told the Neue Osnabruecker Zeitung. The case is sensitive for Karzai, who depends on foreign troops to battle Taliban and al Qaeda militants and foreign aid to support the economy. But he also has to consider the views of conservative proponents of Islamic law. Asked about the international outcry, Baluch said, Everybody has the right to express their view. Rahman, 40, has not been formally charged yet. He told a judge at a preliminary hearing last week he became a Christian while working for an aid group helping Afghan refugees in Pakistan 15 years ago. I'm not an apostate. I'm obedient to God but I'm a Christian, that's my choice, Rahman told the hearing. Washington, which counts Karzai as a key ally in the region, raised the case with the then visiting Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday, calling on Kabul to uphold Afghan citizens' constitutional right to choose their faith. The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, an Islamic advocacy group, said Rahman's conversion was a personal matter and urged the Afghan government to release him. Italian Foreign Minister Gianfranco Fini has said Rahman would probably not be executed. Fini, whose country was one of four with troops in Afghanistan to speak out about the case, told Italian television on Tuesday he had indications the Islamic punishment for apostasy would not be imposed on Abdul Rahman. From what I've been told, and I have no reason to doubt it, the death sentence will not be carried out, said Fini. He gave no other details. CONCERN EXPRESSED The top U.N. envoy in Afghanistan, Tom Koenigs, said in a statement he was following the case with grave concern. It is my wish that Mr Rahman's legal and human rights will be upheld and that this matter does not create a rift between Afghanistan and its international partners, Koenigs said. Freedom of religion, including the freedom to change one's religion, was enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which Afghanistan had adhered to, he said. Some officials have raised questions about Rahman's mental state, and Farhang said Rahman would not be executed if he were found to be unstable. Germany and Canada, both of which also have troops in Afghanistan, have also raised their concern. A political analyst in Kabul said the case might hinge on differing interpretations of the constitution. Afghanistan is a conservative Islamic country and 99 per cent of its more than 25 million people are Muslim. A court sentenced two Afghan journalists to death for blasphemy three years ago but they escaped and sought asylum abroad. *** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. [IslamCity] Our Duty Towards the Messenger of Allah
Bismillah hir Rehman nir RahimOur Duty Towards the Messenger of AllahPraise be to Allah who says: "Now a Messenger has come to you from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that affliction should be fall you. Ardently anxious is he over you. To the believers is he most kind and merciful." (Sûrah al-Tawbah: 128) May the peace and blessing of Allah be upon the Prophet who said: "None of you truly believes until I become more beloved to him than his parents, his children, and all of humanity." There can be no doubt about the rights over both humanity and the Jinn enjoyed by the most honored of Adams descendants, the final Prophet and Messenger, the bearer of the standard of praise, and the possessor of the greatest intercession on the Day of Judgment. How can it be otherwise when Allah raised him to such a lofty status and every virtue that we are blessed with in this world and the next is to his credit after the grace and providence of Allah? Did not the religion of Islam come to bring us success in both worlds? And is the Prophet (peace be upon him) not the one who conveyed this religion to us in its entirety and in the best possible way? One of the most emphatic rights that he has upon us - to whom he brought the blessing of Islam and the hope of Paradise that comes with it - is for us to defend his honor and respond forcefully to those who aggress against him with their words and insinuations. This is his right that can never be revoked. No one has the right to even think of revoking it.This is from the fundamentals of our faith about which no two Muslims differ, irrespective of nationality, skin color, or ideology. All agree on the principle that they must expend every effort and spare no expense to defend Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him). The enemies of Allah can find no better way to unite the Muslims (whom they have been trying so hard to divide) than by slandering the Prophet (peace be upon him) of belittling his Sunnah, even in the subtlest terms. I take this occasion to address those wrongdoers directly and say: Which of us here is more deserving of the label "extremist"? And who here is more deserving of being credited with moderation and tolerance? Those who slander and malign the Final Prophet (peace be upon him) though he is alluded to in your own scriptures? OR Those who believe in Jesus (peace be upon him) and revere him as well as Moses, Abraham, and all of the Prophets and Messengers of Allah (peace be upon them)?Certainly, we as Muslims are witnesses over humanity. Allah says: "Thus We have appointed you a moderate nation, that ye may be witnesses over humanity, and that the Messenger may be a witness over you." (Sûrah al-Baqarah: 143)Praise be to Allah first and always. And may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon the best of His Creation, his family, his Companions, and all those who follow their way. Dr. al-Sharîf Hâtim b. `Ârif al-`Awnî, Professor, Umm al-Qurâ University, MeccaSource:http://www.islamhouse.com/en/modules.php?name=Newsfile=articlesid=172Rights Due to Allah's Messenger by Sheikh Muhammad b. Salih al-UthaimeenThe rights due to Allah's Messenger rank highest amongst the rights of all creatures. No other creature is eligible for a higher right than that due to Allah's Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention. Allah says: "Verily, We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a witness, as a bearer of glad tidings, and as a Warner. In order that you (O mankind) may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and that you assist and honor him." (Qur'an 48:8-9)Hence, love dedicated to the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, must assume precedence over love to all people even oneself, offspring, and parents. In this context Allah's Messenger, may Allah exalt his mention, said: "None of you will believe until I become dearer to him than his child, parent and allotherpeople."(Bukhari Muslim)Amongst the rights due to the Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, are veneration, paying him high tribute and giving him his due honor with neither excess nor negligence. When Muslims honor their Prophet, may Allah exalt his mention, they in fact honor his Sunnah (tradition) and his flawless law. If you had the chance to witness the honor paid to him by his Companions, you would surely have realized how those virtuous people had done their duty towards him to the best. Urwa b. Mas'ood, when sent to negotiate a peace treaty in Hudaibiya, addressed the tribe of Quraysh saying: "I have been admitted into the audience of several kings like Khusro of Persia, Caesar of Rome and Negus of Ethiopia, but I have never witnessed anyone who honors them more than the Companions of Muhammad do to him. If he gives an order, they carry it out immediately; if he makes Wudoo (ablution), they compete to imitate him; if he begins to speak, they lower their voices; they lower their gazes down in complete reverence to him."Thus did
[IslamCity] The Islamic origin of Mexican cuisine
Peace be upon you, When Mexico's leading writer, Nobel Prize laureate Octavio Paz, arrived in New Delhi in 1962 to take up his post as ambassador to India, he quickly ran across a culinary puzzle. Although Mexico and India were on opposite sides of the globe, the brown, spicy, aromatic curries that he was offered in India sparked memories of Mexico's national dish, mole (pronounced MO-lay). Is mole, he wondered, an ingenious Mexican version of curry, or is curry a Hindu adaptation of a Mexican sauce? How could this seeming coincidence of gastronomic geography be explained? Laborious to produce, mole is served for weddings, festivals and national holidays. The legend of its origin in the convents of 18th-century Puebla, the second city of New Spainas Mexico was then calledis part of the nation's popular history, recounted time and again in newspapers, school textbooks, guidebooks and even on paper placemats in restaurants. Mole comes in many varieties, but it usually contains ingredients such as cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns, anise, coriander, chocolate, chiles, almonds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, bread and tortillasall ground together and cooked in a light broth to make a harmonious brown sauce that is served with turkey, chicken or vegetable dishes The high cuisine of medieval Islam, one of the most sophisticated the world had seen, flourished from the eighth century on. It originated in Baghdad, where cooks had the advantage of being able to adapt a Persian cuisine that had developed over the past thousand years, and it was quickly adopted in the other cities of Islam. With the diffusion of Islam, the cuisine was transplanted to new territories. One of the most important was the Iberian Peninsula, whose southern two-thirds came under Arab rule in the eighth century. Watered by five rivers and greener than either their arid homelands or the other lands they had conquered, al-Andalus, as Muslim Spain was called, held out to the Arab and Berber settlers the promise of being a culinary paradise on earth. In the valleys, farmers grew wheat, grapes and olives. In the hills, shepherds tended the sheep and goats that the Arabs favored for meat dishes. But other culinary resources that the Arab elite had come to expect were lacking. The settlers immediately set about correcting this, transforming the landscape of al-Andalus and the cuisine it supported. They built stone irrigation channels through orchards and fields and filled them with river water raised by towering water wheels (norias). They installed walled gardens (huertas) where they could raise slips and cuttings of their favorite fruit trees. As early as the eighth century, the amir `Abd al-Rahman I introduced the date palm into Spain, and he happily accepted a pomegranate variety from Damascus offered to him by the chief judge of Córdoba. A century later the poet al-Ghazal returned from a mission to the East with a fine fig cultivar that he had smuggled out of Constantinople in a package of books. The Muslims also introduced rice for fine pilafs, sugar for drinks and sweets, saffron to add aroma and color to their dishes and a wide variety of their favorite fruits and vegetables, including apricots, oranges, limes, artichokes, carrots, spinach and eggplant. They grew coriander, mint, thyme, fennel, cumin and caraway; the spices and aromatics that they could not growsuch as black pepper, cinnamon, spikenard, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, galingale, musk and camphorthey imported. As in the rest of Islam, the Spanish Muslims built granaries (alhóndigas) to store grain to be distributed in case of hardship. And they set up their characteristic food-processing plants: distilleries to produce rose- and orange-blossom water to perfume their foods and refineries to make fine white sugar. The court kitchens of Córdoba and Granada, cooks could now produce the dishes of high Islamic cuisine. There were the pilaus, made by frying rice or thin wheat noodles and then simmering them in an aromatic liquid until it was fully absorbed. Another family of dishes consisted of delicate dumplings (albondigas) of meats pounded with seasonings. And there were the most characteristic meat dishes: meltingly tender spicy stews. Flavored with a variety of herbs and spices, these stews were cooked in earthenware pots nestled in circular holes in charcoal-heated masonry bench stoves. Some were green with spinach and coriander. Others were golden with saffron. And the most complex were flavored with cinnamon, cloves, peppercorns, almonds and raisins and thickened with eggs or breadcrumbs. Other great creations of the Muslim kitchen were based on clarified white sugar. Sweetened drinks (sharbat) were flavored with ground nuts, citrus fruits and pomegranates. Jams were made of rose petals, oranges and apricots, and dense pastes of quinces. Figurines were modeled from a white paste of sugar mixed with gum (alfenique). And a wide variety of confections such as marzipan was created
[IslamCity] HOLY QURAN INTERSTING FIGURE
Dear all, Check this out, Very interesting findings of Dr. Tariq Al Swaidan might grasp your attention:Dr.Tariq Al Swaidan discovered some verses in the Holy Qur'an that mention one thing is equal to another, i.e. men are equal to women. Although this makes sense grammatically, the astonishing fact is that the number of times the word man appears in the Holy Qur'an is 24 and number of times the word woman appears is also 24, therefore not only is this phrase correct in the grammatical sense but also true mathematically, i.e. 24 = 24.Upon further analysis of various verses, he discovered that this is consistent throughout the whole Holy Qur'an where it says one thing is like another. See below for astonishing result of the words mentioned number of times in Arabic Holy Qur'an Dunia (one name for life) 115 .
