Anyone who tells you that genocide is occurring in Darfur and doesnt in the same breath say that the same, or worse, serious situation is occurring in Uganda, the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Occupied Palestine, is engaged in deception about the subject. Under the guise of saving Africans, the Save Darfur Coalition operation is doing a serious disservice to Africas peace and stability. The powerful and well-funded groups business is to sucker Americans into supporting an invasion and occupation of Africas largest county. By attracting sympathetic celebrities, such as Don Cheadle, and Members of the Congressional Black Caucus to voice demands for an American intervention in Darfur, Save Darfur moves a step closer to the military intervention to save Darfurs peopleand at the same timeits rich oil reserves. Save Darfur is Christian Conservative and Neo-liberal groups in an imperialistic alliance to do in Africa what has been done in Iraq. The Save Darfur Coalition claims it is dedicated to ending genocide in Darfur. Under the lofty ideals of democracy and humanitarianism, Save Darfur uses these as pre-texts for U.S. and European imperialist intervention there. The Save Darfur lobby has cowed the U.S. Congress and Bush administration by portraying the conflict as a kind of racial genocide. Their deceptive propaganda portrays pro-government Arab militias as terrorizing unarmed Black civilians; and has caused many concerned Americans to buy into the farce. The Save Darfur Coalition spent $15 million in 2006 and none of that money went to aid groups on the ground in Darfur. Gullible American officials are in on the scam. But, anyone attuned to the humanitarian consequences of our imperialist interventions that are causing the occupation of Iraq, funding Israeli repression of Palestinians and backing reactionary terror around the world should take a moment of reflection. How did traditionally racist white politicians become champions for the lives of Africans? Unfortunately, the Save Darfur propaganda has taken hold among some well-intentioned activists and progressive organizations. The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) has encouraged that UN-mandated European and Western peacekeepers be placed in Darfur. CBC members claim that putting the weight of the U.S. government behind the insurgent forces in Darfur shows U.S. commitment to the lives of African people. Those calling for imperialist intervention do not talk about the U.S. or Frances role in promoting the conflict, or the horrendous conflicts also occurring in limited-resource countries neighboring Darfur. They do not mention profits that imperialist powers can gain from entering Sudan and breaking it apart. Instead, these progressive or human rights organizations fuel a demonization campaign to view the war as Arabs against Africans. The main division in Darfur is economic: between migratory herders and sedentary farmers. The vast majority of all the people of Darfur are Muslims and all are Black. Recognizing and explaining the complicated economic and political issues there does not make for good propaganda; instead it is more convenient to portray the struggle as one of genocidal Arabs against defenseless Africans. The well-connected people of Save Darfur have made gobs of money for the activist community and made millions of Americans feel good while actually doing squat to save people in Darfur. But, real people for peace reject the rhetoric. Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan labels Save Darfur actions imperialistic. Republican presidential candidate and Congressman Ron Paul criticized the coalition, calling its aims unconstitutional and claims it would be counterproductive to intervene in the war and would prolong it. Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu and Jimmy Carter say that calling events in Darfur genocide is unhelpful. Former Senator, and U.S. Ambassador to the UN, John Danforth says claims of genocide are political. African-Americans should involve themselves in ways to help and not hinder in Africa. The first step is to be about the business of getting the Darfur rebels to the peace table. Over past years, Sudans rebel factions have repeatedly walked away from peace talksencouraged by the anti-government campaign waged by the imperialist powerswhich only prolongs the fighting and expands the crisis. which we conceal something of ourselves. Subtle tension will be our companion,
and while most of us learn to live with it, it drains our energy and tightens
our muscles. On the other hand don't be too honest with others - feel their
pulse - sometimes others are not ready to hear what's in your heart. But know
that when you are honest you will experience a level of inner relaxation that
you had forgotten was even possible.

The future democratic government will have to take the issue forward. But some steps regarding that should be taken at this moment, Irene Khan, AI secretary general, told reporters after attending a seminar on 'Campaign for Human Dignity' in the capital. Irene is leading a special AI delegation to Bangladesh to discuss human rights issues with the government, political parties and civil society on the eve of the first anniversary of declaration of the state of emergency. AI and Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) jointly organised the seminar at LGED Bhaban at the launching of a six-day AI mission which will focus on rule of law with special attention to institutional changes needed for protection and promotion of human rights..” After holding meetings with all the stakeholders, the AI will launch a memorandum on the state of human rights in Bangladesh through a press conference on Thursday.” We’ll say there how trial of all human rights violation incidents that took place in last few years can be held,” she said, adding they will also raise the issue of trial of such violations in 1971.Admitting that rights of both general people and political leaders are violated, Irene said, “We need a change where everyone, not only political leaders but also ordinary people, is protected by law and has the right of fair trial.” We know that Amnesty is a respectable organization .However, we do not think involving in domestic politics is a part of agenda of Amnesty. Knowledgeable people know that the present demand by some quarters for war crime trial after 36 years of independence of Bangladesh has been raised for partisan political purposes, to malign nationalist and Islamic forces .This is obvious also from simultaneous demand by the same quarters for banning of Islamic parties. Every body knows that in a popular referendum extremist secularism of 1972 constitution has been overthrown and Islam was made a pillar of the statecraft. The left and extremist seculars have no support in the country, so they take political cover to reach their unpopular agenda. After all the war prisoners of 1971 war was released and the then President of Bangladesh gave amnesty to all people except specific cases of murder etcetra, there is no justification except partisan politics to raise such old issues. We think the Amnesty has done grave error in this matter; this has become possible because the present secretary general of Amnesty is a person of Bangladesh origin and she has been influenced by a group. We hope Amnesty would realize its mistake.

The signs of an accepted Hajj or 'Umrah
Question: Are there any signs which appear upon those whose performance of the
Hajj or the 'Umrah is accepted?
Response: It is possible for there to be signs for the one whose Hajj,
fasting, charity or prayer has been accepted by Allaah and they are: the
opening of the heart (to good), happiness of the heart and a lighted face.
Certainly, for worshipping (Allaah) there are signs that appear on the body,
signs that are visible and signs that are hidden. Some of the Pious
Predecessors have mentioned that from the signs that a good (act) has been
accepted (by Allaah) is that he will be granted the towfeeq to do (yet) another
good (act). Certainly the towfeeq of Allaah for him to do more good (acts)
after it, is evidence that Allaah ('Azza wa Jall) has accepted his previous
good (acts). He has made it easy for him to do another good act and is happy
with him for it.

Advice to those having performed the Hajj
Question: What is your advice to the one who has performed the obligatory
(first) Hajj?
Response: My advice is that he should fear Allaah (and be aware of Him) in
performing all that which Allaah has obligated upon him in terms of other acts
of worship such as salaah, zakaah, fasting, honouring the parents, enjoining
family ties and being good to the creation (of Allaah) and to the animals under
ones ownership and other than this from that which Allaah has commanded with.
That which encompasses all of this is the statement of Allaah:
{Verily, Allaah enjoins al-'Adl (justice) and al-Ihsaan (being patient in
performing one's duties to Allaah), and giving (help) to kith and kin: and
forbids al-Fahshaa. (all evil deeds), and al-Munkar (all that is prohibited),
and al-Baghee (all kinds of oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take
heed. And fulfill the Covenant of Allaah (Bay'ah: pledge for Islaam) when you
have covenanted, and break not the oaths after you have confirmed them, and
indeed you have appointed Allaah your surety. Verily! Allaah knows what you
do}, [Soorah an-Nahl, Aayah's 90-91].

Rules Related to the Times of Salaat 1. In summer, one should not hasten towards reading zuhr salaat. It is mustahab to offer zuhr salaat after the intense heat rays elapse. In winter, it is preferable to offer zuhr salaat at the beginning of zuhr time. 2. Asr salaat should be delayed till such a time that if after the entry of asr time one wishes to offer any nafl salaat, he can do so, because it is not permissible to offer any nafl salaat after having offered asr salaat irrespective of whether it is in summer or in winter. However, one should not delay to such an extent that the sun turns yellow and its rays change in colour. It is mustahab to hasten towards offering maghrib salaat and to offer it immediately after sunset. 3. The person who is in the habit of waking up for tahajjud salaat in the latter part of the night and has full confidence of definitely waking up; then it is better for him to offer his witr salaat after having offered his tahajjud salaat. But if he is not confident of waking up and fears that he will remain asleep; then he should offer his witr salaat after his esha salaat before going to sleep. 4. It is preferable to delay the fajr, zuhr and maghrib salaats on a cloudy day, while it is mustahab to offer asr salaat a bit early. 5. No salaat is valid at the times of sunrise, mid-day and sunset. However, if asr salaat has not been offered as yet, then it could be offered even at the time of sunset. In these three times, even sajdah-e-tilaawat is makruh and not permissible. 6. It is makruh to offer any nafl salaat after offering fajr salaat until sunrise. However, the offering of any qada salaat and sajdah-e-tilaawat before the sun rises is permissible. But once the sun rises, then as long as some light does not appear, even qada salaat will not be permissible. Similarly, it is not permissible to offer any nafl salaat after the asr salaat. However, qada salaat and sajdah-e-tilaawat is permissible. But once the rays of the sun become weak or faint, then even this is not permissible. 7. At fajr time, a person only offered his fard salaat out of fear that the sun will rise very soon. So as long as the sun does not rise considerably and does not get quite bright, the sunnah salaat should not be offered. Once some light appears, sunnah salaat and any other salaat may be offered. 8. Once dawn breaks and fajr time enters, then apart from the two rakaats sunnah and two rakaats fard of fajr salaat, it is makruh to offer any other nafl salaat. However, it is permissible to offer any qada salaat and to make sajdah-e-tilaawat. 9. If the sun rises while one is offering ones fajr salaat then this salaat will not be valid. When the sun becomes a bit bright, one should make qada. But if the sun sets while one is offering asr salaat, then this salaat will be valid and there will be no need to make qada of it. 10. It is makruh to sleep before offering esha salaat. One should offer ones salaat and then sleep. However, if due to some sickness or travelling, one is very tired and tells someone to wake him up at the time of salaat and that person promises to wake him up; then in this case it will be permissible to sleep. 11. It is mustahab for men to offer fajr salaat at a time when the light spreads considerably and there is so much of time left that in the salaat itself about forty to fifty verses could be read properly; and after offering the salaat, if for some reason one has to repeat the salaat, then in the same way he could read forty to fifty verses again. It is mustahab for women to offer fajr salaat throughout the year when it is dark. And it is mustahab for men and women who are performing hajj to offer fajr salaat when it is dark when they are in Muzdalifah. 12. The time for jumu'ah salaat is the same as the time for zuhr salaat. The only difference is that it is mustahab to delay zuhr salaat in summer irrespective of whether it is hot or not. And it is mustahab to offer zuhr salaat early in winter, while it is sunnah to offer jumu'ah salaat early throughout the year. This is the opinion of all the ulama. 13. The time for the eid salaats commences when the sun rises considerably and remains until just before mid-day. The sun rising considerably means that the yellowness of the sun disappears and its light is so bright that one cannot look at it. In establishing this, the jurists have said that it must rise to the extent of one spear. It is mustahab to offer the eid salaats early. However, the salaat of Eid ul-Fitr should be delayed slightly after the time commences. 14. When the imam gets up from his place to perform the khutbah of jumu'ah, the eid salaats or for hajj, etc. then it is makruh to offer any salaat in these times. It is also makruh to offer any salaat at the time of the khutbah of nikah or at the time of the completion of the Quran. 15. It is also makruh to offer any salaat when the iqaamah for

THIS book is about the U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, not about the India-United States nuclear deal of 2005. But in portraying her as its linchpin and attributing that to Indian perception, the distinguished author, a diplomatic correspondent for The Washington Post, strains our credulity. He has a finer mind than his subject. It was Philip D. Zelikow, counsellor in the State Department until January 2007, who wrote most of the manuscript of the book Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995). Condoleezza Rice appeared to have mainly reworked a few chapters. But he generously gave her co-authorship. Her intellectual achievements are slender: her ambitions are boundless. Put two together and the recipe for success comes readily to such sycophancy. Elisabeth Bumiller of The New York Times has also written a biography, Condoleezza Rice: An American Life. Maureen Dowd read it and wrote in her column in The New York Times: Condi and W. were both underwhelmed by the CIAs [Central Intelligence Agency] representation of its case on Iraqs WMDs [weapons of mass destruction] on Dec. 21, 2002. In the aftermath of the nuclear tests in 1998, it was ready and willing to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and renounce tests. Its Man Friday in the press, who had opposed the CTB, performed a violent somersault, inadvisable for a man of his age. He began advocating signature on the dotted line at the foot of the CTBT. Significantly, the Americans did not contest Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs claim in the Lok Sabha on November 6 that under the deal India has not given up its right to conduct a nuclear test if it decides to do so. The book vindicates him to the hilt. We learn a lot, but not all, about the fons et orego of the nuclear deal. During the 2000 presidential campaign, Rice had made clear her interest in broadening ties with India. In her article in Foreign Affairs, she said that India is not a great power yet, but it has the potential to emerge as one and pointedly noted that India is an element in Chinas calculation, and it should be in Americans too. As Secretary of State, she decided early on that she should pursue a nuclear deal with India. When she was National Security Adviser, she was struck by a comment by her Indian counterpart, Brajesh Mishra, who had bluntly told her that someday the United States would need to let India get out of the nuclear netherworld The new approach actually was spurred on by an unrelated event: Bush, in a December 2004 Oval Office meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, had secretly agreed to sell F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan, in an effort to inoculate Musharraf from a requested crackdown on Islamic fighters in the northwest territories of his country The strategic implications of the F-16 sale were enormous for India, since New Delhi worried the aircraft could be used to deliver nuclear weapons . Rice agreed to hold up the announcement and assigned Zoellick and Philip Zelikow to come up with a way to break the news to New Delhi. They decided to make lemonade out of lemons. The lemonade was the nuclear deal. It was a mix of various motivations India in its own right; as a balance against China; and as an ally of the U.S. The challenge before Indias diplomacy is to stick to its own objectives and pursue its own interests vis-a-vis Russia, China and Iran.
