Bismillah [IslamCity] Children in the Saff
Children in the Saff Masâil related to children standing in the saff for salâh Moulana Mufti Abdur Raûf Sahib Sakkharwi Categories of Children There are three categories of children: (1) The first type are those who are innocent and young. They neither understand the etiquette of the masjid nor do they know anything about salâh. They do not have the understanding that the masjid is a place for worshipping Allâh. There is also the danger that they urinate in the masjid or play therein and violate its sanctity. Children of five to six years fall in this category. The ruling for such children is that it is not permissible to bring them to the masjid. It is the responsibility of the parents to see that they do not bring such children to the masjid. If they do so and the children violate the sanctity of Allâh's house, the parents will be sinful because the children themselves are innocent. The masjid trustees can also prohibit such children from entering the masjid. There is a limit for every act in Shari'ah. These limits are what we call Dîn and we all have to abide by these limits. (2) The second category is those children who are slightly elder. They are between seven to eleven years old. Such children understand the status of a masjid and respect it to a certain degree. However, due to lack of a complete understanding, they do not respect it fully. It is permissible to bring such children to the masjid but it is better not to do so. (3) The third category of children is those who are close to maturity. Their ages range from twelve to fourteen. However, a fifteen-year-old child is considered mature even if he does not have any signs of puberty. The ruling for this category is that they should be brought to the masjid in order to inculcate the habit of salâh with congregation because salâh becomes obligatory on them the moment they reach the age of puberty. It is obligatory on them to attend the masjid for salâh with congregation. If this habit is not inculcated before puberty, it will take time after puberty as a result of which they will forgo their salâhs with congregation. Thus it is imperative to bring the youngsters to the masjid while guiding them at home to respect the masjid. They should be taught not to make a noise in the masjid as it is a sanctified place where the name of Allâh is taken. The Position of the Children's Saff The children's saff should be made after the men's saff has been completed. This is the sunnah way. After the salâh has begun, those who arrive later should join the children's saff on the right and left side. Moving the children Some latecomers move the children further back when seeing them in the saff. Some people hold the child by the ears and drag him to the back. If the child resists, he is carried to the back. Whoever comes late does this. This occurs in many of the masjids. If the child was in the first saff at the beginning of salâh, he reaches the last saff at the end of salâh. This is because most people come late for salâh nowadays. Whoever enters the masjid, does this thinking that it is not permissible to perform salâh next to children. This is completely wrong. One should free one's mind of such a thought. You should stand next to the child whether he is in the front saff or the rear one. You may stand on his right-hand side or his left-hand side. This does not affect the salâh of the adults. All late comers should stand at the back next to the children. It is not permissible to shunt the children further back. Such an act is sinful By doing this, we are nullifying their salâh and thereby placing that sin on our shoulders. Standing in the adults' saff If the children that attend the masjid for salâh are not well disciplined and they run around in the masjid, play fools, laugh and talk, then the ruling for such children is that they should be separated and made to stand among the adults. A separate saff should not be made for them. This will prevent them from disturbing others in their salâh. If there are only one or two children, then it is permissible to make them stand with the adults without any karâhat [abomination]. Discipline We should also remember the way shown to us by Nabî Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam when dealing with children. They should not be mercilessly treated and beaten up. Nabî Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam said, One who does not have mercy on our young ones and does not respect our elders is not from amongst us. Anâs Radhiallâhu anhu served Nabî Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam for ten years but not once did Nabî Sallallâhu alaihi wasallam reprimand him for doing something or for not doing something. Thus it is against the sunnah to severely reprimand or beat a child. Furthermore, a severe reprimand seldom has a lasting effect. The child may refrain temporarily from that act

Bismillah [IslamCity] Islam Grows Into a Strong Presence in America
Note: forwarded message attached. ISAM A. BAQI - Yahoo! Answers - Get better answers from someone who knows. Tryit now.---BeginMessage--- Islam Grows Into a Strong Presence in America by James Dretke http://www.arabicbible.com/christian/islam_in_america.htm This article first appeared in the News Watch column of Volume 23 / Number 4 / 2001 issue of the Christian Research Journal. For further information or to subscribe to the Christian Research Journal go to: http://www.equip.org/publ/ We welcome Islam in America. It enriches our country with Islam’s teachings of self-discipline, compassion, and commitment to family. It deepens America’s respect for Muslims here at home and around the world.1 Today, Muslim Americans are a cornerstone of our American community. They enrich our political and cultural life; they provide leadership in every field of human endeavor, from business to medicine, to scholarship.2 These public pronouncements of President Clinton to Muslim Americans are indicative of how Islam has become established as a major religion in America. For most of America’s history, Islam had been a marginal presence. Muslims were mostly foreign nationals or resident aliens, with only a few naturalized United States citizens, and even fewer second or third generation Americans. Christian churches relegated evangelism of Muslims to foreign missions. The typical American Christian rarely, if ever, encountered a religiously active Muslim. Now, however, Islam is a noticeable religious force in America. Christians need to be as knowledgeable of Islam’s presence as they are of any other religion in America. Islam is no passing fad, and it is growing quickly in America. American Muslim leaders are quite open about their hopes and dreams. In an editorial entitled “Time to Make an Imprint,” Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi writes: “North America needs our contribution, and it is up to us to make an imprint in founding a truly Islamic civilization on this continent.”3 Very few Americans lack an opinion about Islam. There are numerous views concerning the religion, many not favorable. “According to a recent Roper Poll, 50% of those polled believed all Muslims to be inherently anti-American. Today, the bywords of the relationship between the Muslim and the Judeo-Christian worlds are alienation and suspicion.”4 Carl Ellis, a noted African-American Christian leader, asserts that Islam “is the most serious threat to the church in America.”5 Muslim Influence. Just how influential is the Islamic community in America? Since September 1999, Muslims have conducted Friday congregational prayers inside the U.S. Capitol building. American Muslim opposition to a Burger King restaurant opened in the West Bank in Israel caused the corporation to close it down. The United States military has tripled the number of Muslim chaplains in its ranks (serving more than 4,000 Muslim members of the military). Amazon.com changed a video review (of the movie Not without My Daughter) in response to Muslim complaints.6 In 1999 Georgetown University began a three-year project “to document the impact of Muslim Americans on the American horizon.”7 Islamic Horizons, one of the most influential Muslim journals in America with a distribution of more than 60,000,8 asserted in the article “Why Muslim Americans Need to Vote” that “Muslim Americans have power and its accompanying responsibility. We represent $75 billion of collective annual income, more than any Muslim country can produce.”9 This same issue relates how Muslim American complaints about a CNN online posting referring to Jerusalem as “the capital of Israel” prompted CNN to make appropriate changes quickly.10 The growing presence of Muslim Americans has not been lost on politicians either. For example, in New Jersey (home to an estimated 400,000 Muslims), former Governor Christine Todd Whitman signed a bill making New Jersey “the first state to enact a law ensuring the authenticity of Halal food.”11 Two Muslim Americans made history by delivering the benedictions on the first day of both the Democratic and Republican national conventions this past year.12 Also in 2000, Congress called on the United States Postal Service to issue a postal stamp commemorating the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Muslim Population and Growth. Is Islam the fastest growing religion in the world? Is it the fastest growing religion in America? The demographics tell us that the answer is yes to both questions. Establishing population demographics for Muslims is not easy. Even without completely accurate statistics, we find numerous independent studies in fairly close agreement. Most major studies estimate a worldwide Muslim population for the year 2000 at roughly 1.25 billion people; that is, about one-fifth or 20 percent of the world’s population.13 In comparison, Christianity is the largest religion in

Bismillah [IslamCity] Blame The Middle Class
One of the best article, analyzing present Gujarat situation. - Abhiyya Recovering Gujarat from its urban middle class will not be easy. The class has found in militant religious nationalism a new self- respect and a new virtual identity as a martial community, the way Bengali babus, Maharashtrian Brahmins and Kashmiri Muslims at different times have sought salvation in violence. In Gujarat this class has smelt blood, for it does not have to do the killings but can plan, finance and coordinate them with impunity. The actual killers are the lowest of the low, mostly tribals and Dalits. The middle class controls the media and education, which have become hate factories in recent times. And they receive spirited support from most non-resident Indians who, at a safe distance from India, can afford to be more nationalist, bloodthirsty, and irresponsible. Blame The Middle Class 8 Jan 2008, hrs IST,Ashis Nandy Now that the dust has settled over the Gujarat elections, we can afford to defy the pundits and admit that, even if Narendra Modi had lost the last elections, it would not have made much difference to the culture of Gujarat politics. Modi had already done his job. Most of the state's urban middle class would have remained mired in its inane versions of communalism and parochialism and the VHP and the Bajrang Dal would have continued to set the tone of state politics. Forty years of dedicated propaganda does pay dividends, electorally and socially. The Hindus and the Muslims of the state once bonded so conspicuously by language, culture and commerce have met the demands of both V D Savarkar and M A Jinnah. They now face each other as two hostile nations. The handful of Gujarati social and political activists who resist the trend are seen not as dissenters but as treacherous troublemakers who should be silenced by any means, including surveillance, censorship and direct violence. As a result, Gujarati cities, particularly its educational institutions are turning cultural deserts. Gujarat has already disowned the Indian Constitution and the state apparatus has adjusted to the change. The Congress, the main opposition party, has no effective leader. Nor does it represent any threat to the mainstream politics of Gujarat. The days of grass-roots leaders like Jhinabhai Darji are past and a large section of the party now consists of Hindu nationalists. The national leadership of the party does not have the courage to confront Modi over 2002, given its abominable record of 1984. The Left is virtually non-existent in Gujarat. Whatever minor presence it once had among intellectuals and trade unionists is now a vague memory. The state has disowned Gandhi, too; Gandhian politics arouses derision in middle-class Gujarat. Except for a few valiant old-timers, Gandhians have made peace with their conscience by withdrawing from the public domain. Gandhi himself has been given a saintly, Hindu nationalist status and shelved. Even the Gujarati translations of his Complete Works have been stealthily distorted to conform to the Hindu nationalist agenda. Gujarati Muslims too are adjusting to their new station. Denied justice and proper compensation, and as second-class citizens in their home state, they have to depend on voluntary efforts and donor agencies. The state's refusal to provide relief has been partly met by voluntary groups having fundamentalist sympathies. They supply aid but insist that the beneficiaries give up Gujarati and take to Urdu, adopt veil, and send their children to madrassas. Events like the desecration of Wali Gujarati's grave have pushed one of India's culturally richest, most diverse, vernacular Islamic traditions to the wall. Future generations will as gratefully acknowledge the sangh parivar's contribution to the growth of radical Islam in India as this generation remembers with gratitude the handsome contribution of Rajiv Gandhi and his cohorts to Sikh militancy. The secularist dogma of many fighting the sangh parivar has not helped matters. Even those who have benefited from secular lawyers and activists relate to secular ideologies instrumentally. They neither understand them nor respect them. The victims still derive solace from their religions and, when under attack, they cling more passionately to faith. Indeed, shallow ideologies of secularism have simultaneously broken the back of Gandhism and discouraged the emergence of figures like Ali Shariatis, Desmond Tutus and the Dalai Lama persons who can give suffering a new voice audible to the poor and the powerless and make a creative intervention possible from within worldviews accessible to the people. Finally, Gujarat's spectacular development has underwritten the de-civilising process. One of the worst-kept secrets of our times is that dramatic development almost always has an authoritarian tail. Post-World War II Asia too has had
Bismillah [IslamCity] The Springs of Paradise
* * * * * * *The Springs of Paradise* ** In Paradise there are many springs that provide drinks of different tastes: Truly al-Muttaqoon [the pious and righteous] will be amidst Gardens and Water-springs *[15:45]* Verily al-Muttaqoon shall be amidst shades and springs. *[77:41]* Concerning the two Gardens which Allah (swt) has prepared for those who fear their Rabb, Allah (swt) said, In them [both] will be two springs flowing [free]. *[55:50]* And concerning the two Gardens beneath them, He said, In them [both] will be two springs gushing forth water. *[55:66]* In Paradise there are two springs from which al-Muqarraboon will drink pure and undiluted, whilst the Abraar will drink their water mixed with something else. The first is the spring of Kafoor, as Allah (swt) says: Verily the Abraar [the pious, those who fear Allah and avoid evil], shall drink a cup [of wine] mixed with water from a spring in Paradise called Kafoor, A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. *[76:5-6]* He tells us that the pious will drink from it mixed with something else, whilst those close to Allah will drink it pure and undiluted. The second spring is of Tasneem, as Allah (swt) says: Verily al-Abraar will be in delight [Paradise], On thrones, looking [at all things]. You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. They will b given to drink pure sealed wine, the last thereof [that wine] will be the smell of musk, and for this let [all] those who strive who want to strive [i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah]. It [that wine] will be mixed with Tasneem, a spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. *[83:22-27]* Another of the springs of Paradise is called al-Salsabeel as Allah (swt) says: And they will be given to drink there a cup [of wine] mixed with zanjabeel [ginger], a spring there, called Salsabeel. *[76:17-18]* This is probably the same spring as that mentioned above, i.e. Kafoor. Re: Bismillah [IslamCity] Sania Mirza
Assalaam Alaikum w r w b Well, brother, your effort is commendable, but, please do not base your argument on REORTS. You obviously should know how murky can media REPORTS get. I am a witness to the argument provided by Zakir Naik on Sania Mirza and never once did he even imply that her short attire could be ignored. Infact he quite clearly said that it was wrong. Abumaryam Mohammad Shafi Aga@yahoo.com wrote: In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful Assalaamu alaykum, In a news item, sometime back, Dr Zakir Naik, the renowned Islamic scholar, is reported to have said, Everyone has different levels of modesty. There were tennis players who wore long skirts and performed just as well. But personally, I support Sania Mirza as she prays five times a day, so the skirts she wears can be ignored. I admire the Doctor and often listen to his speeches. But that should not mean that everything he says is sacrosanct. He is human after all, and prone to errors. Let us therefore examine his reported quote in Qur'aanic light and see whether it is in conformity with the divine guidance. For, the Qur'aan calls those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed as suppressors of Truth, oppressors and transgressors [refer Verses 5.44, 5.45 and 5.47]. Allah has indeed given mankind the freedom, in this life, not to go by the way laid down in the Qur'aan. By giving the freedom, Allah is only testing mankind. So is Sania Mirza being tested. If she fails the test, the responsibility for the consequences is entirely hers. But the matter of punishing her, for any breach of the divinely laid down dress code, lies with Allah. Since she comes from a country, and goes to such countries to play tennis, which have nothing against her dress in their penal codes, Muslims can do nothing legal to prevent her from wearing her short dress. Nevertheless, since Sania Mirza has gained fame and wealth, she has become an icon, and her actions are liable to be copied by others. Other Muslim girls may think, if Sania Mirza can do it, why not they? Muslim scholars are therefore duty-bound to examine her actions, and publicly condemn them if they are against divine stipulations. Verse 24.31 clearly lays down that a woman should so cover her body as not to display its charm in public. She is moreover asked, in that Verse, not to stamp her feet so as to reveal her hidden charm. As anyone can see, Sania Mirza, playing in full public glare with her short body-clinging dress, is clearly contravening those divine stipulations. Muslim scholars are duty-bound to bring this fact to the notice of all Muslims the world over, although they are in no position to prevent her from continuing to play thus. In the circumstances, it is surprising that an eminent Islamic scholar like Dr Zakir Naik should say the skirts, Sania wears, can be ignored. She may be praying five times a day, but Allah condemns those who obey some divine stipulations, and disobey others [refer Verse 2.85]. Bismillah [IslamCity] Chief Justice Ruhul Amin,s speech in Int Law swminar -

Ruhul Amin addressing an International Seminar on 'Islamic Law and its application in the contemporary Society' at BIAM Foundation auditorium yesterday. NN photo Staff Reporter Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin told an international seminar in Dhaka yesterday that the curses of corruption and terrorism that afflict societies can be effectively curbed through the application of Islamic legal framework. Addressing the inaugural session of a two-day international seminar on Islamic Law and its application in the contemporary society at the BIAM auditorium, the Chief Justice said, 'Contrary to what people may believe, Islamic legal system is the most dynamic in nature and its acceptability with changing time and place is guaranteed through the window of Ijtehaad.' He said, as the divine law on earth Islamic law is the most comprehensive set of rules and regulations which is capable of dispensing justice. 'A very special characteristic of the Islamic law is that it is applicable in all times and to all societies regardless of their ethnicity, colour and creed.' The seminar is being attended by scholars from Malaysia, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It has been jointly organised by the Islamic Law Research Centre and Legal Aid Bangladesh (ILRCLAB) and the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT). Presided over by Shah Abdul Hannan, former secretary to the government, and president, BIIT, the inaugural function was also addressed by advocate Nazrul Islam, secretary general of ILRCLAB, Prof. Imtiaz Ghulam Ahmed of the University of Calcutta, India, Dr. Hashim Kamali of International Islamic University, Malaysia, Justice Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan of Pakistan, Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Editor, The New Nation, Prof. Abu Bakar Rafiq, Pro-VC, International Islamic University, Chittagong and Prof. Abul Hasan Sadeq, VC, Asian University of Bangladesh. The Chief Justice said that the relevance of Islamic law to our society in modern times has never diminished. 'Instead, I think it is more relevant today than ever before.' Referring to massive corruption in our society, he said although huge anti-corruption measures inhibited the extent of corruption temporarily, they have seldom been successful to change the very characters of the corrupt people. Similarly, most of the anti-terrorism measures that have been taken to curb terrorism that has shaken the world, failed to bring about desirable results, or ironically, proved counter productive. He said Islamic legal framework will be able to instill the necessary moral fabric in the minds of the corrupt ones so that they would feel an urge from within themselves not to get involved in corruption. 'Islam does not heal any problem with superficial and light approach, rather it enters deeper into it to understand its nature and cause and then uproot the evil from its source, he said. The Chief Justice hoped that through the 2-day deliberations of the workshop a concrete understanding of Islamic law and its applicability in the contemporary society will develop. The event is well timed in the wake of increased corruption, terrorism and crimes around the globe in general and in our country in particular, he added. Shah Abdul Hannan said that Islamic law research progressed a lot and some such laws have been enacted in various countries, though we cannot say that the legislation are perfect and there are no lacunae. The Ulema and politicians for the first time in history agreed on the principles of Islamic Constitution when in Pakistan they framed constitutions in 1956 and then in 1973. He, however, pointed out that there is a lot of misunderstanding about the depth and vastness of Islamic law. There is hardly anything to change in ninety-eight per cent of the laws in Bangladesh (to make them Islamic) because they deal with procedure and punishment, if any, he said. http://nation.ittefaq.com/issues/2008/01/12/news0902.htm Read the news item at Daily Star: http://www.thedailystar.net/story.php?nid=18932
Bismillah [IslamCity] Sudanese Journalists Union Message of Solidarity with the International Day to shut down Guantanamo, Jan 11
Sudanese Journalists Union Message of Solidarity http://www.witnesstorture.org/node/859 Sudanese Journalists Union Message of Solidarity with the International Day to Shut down Guantanamo, January 11, 2008 We in the Sudanese Journalists Union consider the continuation of the imprisonment of Sudanese nationals in Guantanamo, including our colleague, Al-Jazeera camera-man Sami El-Haj, for a seventh year without trial, to be an act that transgresses all international and humanitarian norms and agreements. We condemn this act of transgression and confirm that freedom of the press is a right and duty which must be respected. The continuation of the Guantanamo detention camp is now rejected in the United States and outside of it. Its existence reflects and ugly face of US policies and we are in solidarity with global public opinion that strongly demands abolishing this camp. We in the Sudanese Journalists Union demand from the Unites States to apologize and compensate the prisoners who were released and not found guilty of any crime. We also demand that the United Sates apologize to their countries, and to release those who have not been charged with any crime to date, including our colleague, Al-Jazeera camera-man Sami El-Haj. We salute this gathering here in Washington and in the other forty cites world-wide. This is a noble and important act of solidarity against injustice and in defense of human-rights and freedoms. We confirm the importance of protecting journalists in all parts of the world, and call on to respect international agreements and norms that point to the protection of journalists especially in areas of conflict and war. Re: Bismillah [IslamCity] Sania Mirza
Verse 24.31 clearly lays down that a woman should so cover her body as not to display its charm in public. She is moreover asked, in that Verse, not to stamp her feet so as to reveal her hidden charm. … is clearly contravening those divine stipulations. Muslim scholars are duty-bound to bring this fact to the notice of all Muslims the world over, .. The Muslim Scholars with their ‘religious’ zeal should be duty bound to bring the important issues to the notice of the Muslim potentates the world over :- -of the conditions of the poor masses in their countries who’s wealth they are squandering on filthy ostentations as if they are not answerable to God ever. (Remember Sadam rotted in a Rat hole after having built numerous Palaces in Baghdad. It takes a filthier rat like USA to flush out a filthy Rat ) -of the conditions of the women in their countries who are kept covered up head to toe like face-less and voice-less second class citizens. -of the condition of pregnant/sick women who have no hospitals to go to for there are no lady-doctors to attend to them, while their own women get attended by the best of the male gynecologists n the West. -of the children in their countries who have no primary schools to go to while their own boys and girls study in the West. -of the poor peoples' children in their countries who are taught parrot fashion meaningless Arabic verses and then sent to die in some other countries at the pretext of getting seventy two virgin hoors in the hereafter, in which they themselves do not believe in. - of the children in their countries who have no shirt/dress on their backs and go half naked all their childhood. Sania dresses in the best sports dress a healthy young Muslim or any other women should dress to play a sport. She dresses better than the humping and grunting ennis players. The religious “scholars” should chough out their excess pious sensuality before switching on the TV to watch a tennis match, or should change the channel to Sesame Street. There are more “divine” important matters being contravened in the so called Muslim world the scholars should attend to and protest against. That is their DUTY. Rashid - Original Message From: Mohammad Shafi [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mohammad Shafi [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: eGroup For Muslims Around The World islamcity@yahoogroups.com Sent: Saturday, January 12, 2008 11:13:38 PM Subject: Bismillah [IslamCity] Sania Mirza In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful Assalaamu alaykum, In a news item, sometime back, Dr Zakir Naik, the renowned Islamic scholar, is reported to have said, Everyone has different levels of modesty. She may be praying five times a day, but Allah condemns those
