Subject: MY COMMENTS ON OTTAWA SUN ARTICLE : 'SECOND CLASS CITIZENS'

(The cited article appears below)

I spent over 10 years in Saudi Arabia working for major US corporations. I had
numerous western friends, and often, we used to have family dinners. Most of
the women said they were scared to come to the Kingdom, because they had heard
so many scary stories, but after coming, they didn't want to leave. They said
they never felt safe anywhere in the U.S.A as they felt in Saudi Arabia. They
didn't mind not being able to drive, as it was very dangerous anyway (more
people die there of traffic accidents than any illness). It was a small
sacrifice compared to many other benefits they enjoyed.

There are so many hateful people who like to abuse Saudi Arabia at the drop a
hat, but they never seem to acknowledge the many wonderful aspects of Saudi
Arabia. Many of them have never even stepped on its soil!

When I lived in Japan, there was a student from Austria who could never stop
badmouthing the Japanese people. I told him how unfortunate it was that he
spent his time making life miserable for him, while we enjoyed every minute of
our stay there.

Muslims are blamed for the wrongdoings of the rulers, but these rulers are kept
in power by the West, so they could rob the resources, and Muslims who want to
overthrow them are stamped as 'terrorists' or 'Islamists'. So, Muslims are in a
no-win situation.

Take any country, and one can write terrible things about it, but remember
Matthew 7:1-5 : You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and
then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. Why do
you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to
the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the
speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

Don't be fooled into thinking Saudi Arabia's softening of some restrictions
against women is a step toward freedom. If your jailer gives you extra food or
a clean pillow, you're still in jail. So long as men make the decisions in
Saudi society, it doesn't matter how malevolent or benevolent those decisions
are. They'll still add up to oppression.

Women in Saudi Arabia can now stay in hotels on their own, without being
accompanied by men -- provided they inform the police of their whereabouts.
More importantly, there are reports that women in the benighted kingdom might
soon be able to drive.

On a practical, daily level, mobility is an important freedom. Without it,
women can't do business or protect their own safety. But a little more access
to cars and hotels won't allow women to break free of restrictive attitudes in
the working world or patriarchal structures in the home.

In the twisted attitude of religious fundamentalism, a woman behind the wheel
is, somehow, a threat to society's mores. That's the crux of the debate in
Saudi Arabia: whether the practical benefits of allowing women some mobility
outweighs the perceived consequences for their virtue and the virtue of others.
Liberty and equality still aren't part of the fabric of the official discourse.
No society can develop respect for human rights without first acknowledging
that they exist.

Just this month, a Saudi delegation told a UN committee that the state's
interpretation of Islam holds that total equality between man and woman is
contrary to reality. That's the attitude that Saudi women still confront,
whether they're in cars or hotel rooms or anywhere else.

Bismillah [IslamCity] A Crusader in King Abdullah's Court

2008-01-26 Thread PoEtEsS
A Crusader in King Abdullah's Court

Bush: God Bless Israel
Arabs: God Bless Bush

Mohamed Khodr

Past experience provides little basis for confidence that reason can prevail
in an atmosphere of mounting war fever. In a contest between a hawk and dove
the hawk has a great advantage, not because it is a better bird but because it
is a bigger bird with lethal talons and a highly developed will to use them.
William Fulbright: On the Arrogance of Power (The Late Senator and Chairman
of the Senate Foreign Relations)

21/01/08 ICH -- -- The Dying of Gaza As the World Turns Away: No Light, Heat,
or Bread

Barely weeks after the failure of the Annapolis meeting Bush headed to the
Middle East for his first visit in seven years. His purpose: Enlisting Arab
support, although never needed, to attack Israel's neo-existential
threat---Iran, regardless of the fact that Iran neither has nuclear weapons nor
will it commit suicide by attacking Israel or American interests in the Gulf.
When it comes to Israel's or America's preemptive wars and occupations of Arab
land, facts, international laws, and human rights are irrelevant as expressed
by George H. W. Bush, the father of Bush Jr. who considers himself the divinely
guided crusader for Israel and MidEast peace: I will never apologize for the
United States of America - I don't care what the facts are.

Arriving in Israel under the pretense of energizing the peace process Bush
and Olmert's discussion concentrated on attacking Iran, damn the Palestinians.
Despite Bush's feigned statements that occupation must end and that outposts
must be dismantled, Ehud Olmert publicly dressed down the American President by
saying that settlements will continue to be built.

During Bush's visit to Israel dozens of Palestinians were murdered and injured
by the Israeli military. Bush did not utter a word on the loss of Palestinian
lives. On the contrary, Bush visited the Holocaust memorial and was moved by
the persecution of the Jews in Europe who today are the persecutors of the
Palestinians. He wrote in the guest book; God bless Israel, George Bush. It's
hard to imagine that God blesses Israel's inhumanity against the Palestinians
or Bush's savagery in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Bush, thankfully you will leave
office in one year after inflaming the world for decades to come. Your only
contributions to this planet are Global Warming and Global Warring.

With insensitivity and callousness to the daily harassment Palestinians undergo
as they navigate hundreds of military checkpoints, Bush joked about his
unimpeded drive through a checkpoint in full sight of the Apartheid Wall by
saying: You'll be happy to know, my whole motorcade of a mere 45 cars was able
to make it through without being stopped. I'm not so exactly sure that's what
happens to the average person. The man who touts freedom was blind to the lack
of freedom of movement of the occupied Palestinians on their own land.

Gaza has been under siege for over a year for daring to democratically elect
Hamas, a resistance movement founded with Israel's aid and blessing that
legitimately fights to expel Israel's brutal occupation from their land. This
overcrowded strip of 1.5 million people has become the world's largest prison
suffering from a massive humanitarian crisis courtesy of Israel's democracy.

Gaza today is under a total blockade of fuel, without electricity, heat, bread,
clean water, medicines, and overflowing sewage in the streets. The only light
that brightens Gaza's night sky is exploding Israeli bombs and shells. Israel
is also blocking all U.N. humanitarian goods from entering Gaza which includes
baby formula; such collective punishment of an entire population is illegal
under International Law; but thanks to America, Israel has always been above
the law, both divine and human.

John Dugard, U.N. Human Rights rapporteur in the Occupied Territories, called
Israel's military offensive in Gaza a war crime and called for the punishment
of the responsible parties. John Holmes, undersecretary general of the U.N. for
Humanitarian Affairs condemned the collective punishment of the people of
Gaza. Holmes expressed his grave concern on Israel's sealing of border
crossings because they are the lifeline for the delivery of humanitarian
assistance and other goods to Gaza.

The World Bank, the International Red Cross, and many international
organizations and human rights groups are warning of a humanitarian
catastrophe.

While the world, the U.N., and the Arab leaders are expressing concern and
condemnation, Israel rests assured that as long as it has American in its
grip, the voices of the world cannot save a single Palestinian child from an
Israeli sniper's bullet

Many Israelis and Jews around the world have made the analogy that Israeli
tactics against the Palestinians are akin to Nazi tactics

As Salamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barkatuh!

Inside Out
There is essentially only one way in which you can bring about
self-transformation - that's if you want to - but you will not think you need
to if you are still taking your happiness from outside yourself, and still
managing to tolerate the periods of unhappiness which result. As soon as your
happiness is dependent on anything outside, you make yourself a slave to a
condition, substance or perhaps a person. A slave is not free. And happiness is
impossible if you are not free. Perhaps this goes some way to explaining why
our happiness fluctuates. Real happiness does not go up and down. Real freedom
means that your happiness comes from inside out. That will require detachment
and renunciation, not least from the illusions and conditioning of society
which would have you believe happiness can be acquired from outside in. Can you
see it? Inside out, not outside in!

Israel kills Palestinian boys, steals their organs for transplants

Source :

1- Occupied Jerusalem: 9 January, 2002 (IAP News www.iap.org This Message )

2- Resumen News Service http://www.nodo50.org/resumen

3- UNITY NEWS

Israel on Tuesday tacitly admitted that doctors at the Israeli forensic
institute at Abu Kabir had extracted the vital organs of three Palestinian
teenage children killed by the Israeli army nearly ten days ago.

Israeli Minister of Health Nessim Dahhan said in response to a question by
Arab Knesset Member Ahmed Teibi that he couldn't deny that organs of
Palestinian youths and children killed by the Israeli forces were taken out
for transplants or scientific research.

I couldn't say for sure that something like that (taking out the organs)
didn't happen.

Teibi said he had received credible evidence proving that Israeli doctors
at the forensic institute extracted such vital organs as the heart,
kidneys, and liver from the bodies of Palestinian youths and children
killed by the Israeli army in Gaza and the West bank.

The Israeli authorities normally detain the bodies of martyred Palestinians
for a few days without any explanation.

The Israeli army on 30 December killed three Palestinian boys, aged 14-15
near Khan Younis in unclear circumstances.

The army issued conflicting reports on the killing, while Palestinian
sources charged that Israeli troops murdered the three unarmed boys in cold
blood.

The bodies of the three boys were handed over to the Palestinians for
burial on 6 January.

However, shortly before burial, Palestinian medical authorities examined
the bodies and found out that the main vital organs were absent from their
bodies.

The Israeli media has nearly completely ignored the affair~~~

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Sabians ,example of pluralism in Islam

2008-01-26 Thread saiyed shahbazi
In the context of Arabia and the time when Islam emerged, Islam adopted a very
moderate, pluralistic approach to other religions. This pluralistic, harmonious
ideology of Islam was only later hijacked for a number of geo-political
reasons. The true spirit of Islam always had ample room to accomodate and even
give good news to people of other faith, namely Christians and Jews. Second
chapter of Quran has a notable verse on this theme which says: Surely those who
believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever
believes in God and the Judgement day and does good, they shall have their
reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.
(The Quran| 2.62)

This verse not only give good news to genuine Jews and Christians, but also
include another people of faith, namely Sabians. Some scholars argue that the
term Sabians are used to accomodate people of different faith other than
Judaism and Christianity. Yet other scholars have traced particular religious
group known as Sabian that existing pre-Islamic time. The blog, Mavi Boncuk has
an interesting article on the Sabians. let me share here.

Evangelical Christians do not read or understand Koran (Quran). Most muslims
also do not read and question the information that is in plain sight. The
Sabians existed before Muhammad, and are said to have read from a book called
the Zabur. The Saabi`ah Hunafa came under Islamic rule about 639 AD. At that
time in history they were described as Greek immigrants but were grouped
together with the Saabi'ah Mushrikoon Nabataeans.

Under sharia, the Sabians form a protected religious group (along with
Christians and Jews).

Many Islamic writers from the period of about 650 CE onward gave further
descriptions of the Sabians. They wrote that the Sabians lived in Iraq around
Sawad, Kutha and Mosul and they wash themselves with water and had long
hair and white gowns [citation needed]. They had a monotheistic faith with
religious literature (the Zabur) and acknowledged the prophets. Their theology
resembled that of Judaism and Christianity yet were neither, nor were they
Magians.

As explained by Muslim historian of the eleventh century, Al Biruni, the
Sabians were believed to have been remnants of the Jewish captivity who chose
to remain behind in Babylon and practiced a combined religion of Judaism and
Zoroastrianism, and claimed descent from Enoch. In their Hermetic literature,
Enoch was equated with Hermes, and from their community, and the most famous of
the treatise attributed to them, that was to become notorious in the West was
the Picatrix.

It is also considered that a set of Sufi treatises, known as the Epistles of
the Ikhawan al Saffa wa Kkhullan al Wafa, or of The Brethren of Purity and
Loyal Friends, a philosophical and religious encyclopedia, which scholars
regard as reflecting elements of Pythagorean, Neoplatonic, and the traditions
of the Magi, were drawn up in the ninth century AD, under Sabian influence. It
is generally agreed that the Epistles of the Ikhwan as Saffa were composed by
leading proponents of the Ismaili sect of the Shiah.

Yazdânism or Cult of Angels (also Yazdâni or Yazdanism) is a modern term for
the monotheistic, though universalist, religion that was practiced by most
Kurds up to the Islamization during the sixteenth century. Yazdânism involved a
belief in incarnation as well as 7 angelic beings which defend the world from
their equal and opposite number. In Kurdistan a fair estimate still claims
yazdanists being close to one third of the population. They are the Sabians of
Harran described in Maimonides Guide for the Perplexed and mentioned in
Bahá'í writings as Sabeans. The name Yazdânism derives from the Kurdish word
Yazdân, meaning god or angel.

:: The significance of including a less prominent religious faith such as the
Sabians in this particular Quranic verse, goes much deeper than it seems in the
beginning. This shows the truly universal and harmonious approach of Islam to
people of all faith to such a degree that Islam didn't hesitate to include
Sabians, accepting and acknowledging their faith in God. This single verse thus
have greater message to the modern world about Islam's tolerance and
accomodating nature, when it comes to wrong perception about the religion of
Islam.

The very definition of the term pluralism allows for the development of a
common tradition while preserving the right of each group to maintain its
cultural heritage (faith is a part of culture, no doubt). Pluralism implies
mutual respect. And if one looks close at Islam's spirit, one can see this
right at the core of Islam's message to humanity.

January 25, 2008 Friday Muharram 15, 1429Science in terms of the Quran
By Bilal Ahmed Malik
THE Holy Quran is the book of guidance. This guidance is for the whole of
humankind and covers all activities of human life. Science is an important
human activity and is an essential one for the progress of human civilisation.

The Quran is not a book of science as such and hence one cannot hope to find
all the principles of science embedded in it; nevertheless the Quran has its
own style of dealing with the facts and principles of science. It deals with
the essence of scientific principles and makes statements about a number of
phenomena in a suggestive form hinting at the highest organising principles. In
verse 3: 191, Allah has indicated that anyone pondering over nature will
reflect: “our Lord! Not for naught hast thou created (all) this…..”

This assertion that nothing has been created for nothing is actually the most
fundamental article of faith to the modern ecologist who realises that the
universe has a fine-tuning and that we must not disturb it. There are about
thirty million life forms. Only five million have been studied so far. However,
many a time it has been found that man has disturbed the life styles of some of
these forms and has paid very dearly for this. We should take all care to see
that a life form survives, as its elimination may upset the overall ecological
balance of the nature. Thus the entire basis of the science of ecology is no
other than the Quranic assertion that nothing has been created for nothing.

Another example is the Quranic reference to the order and proportions of
things. In verse 25:2 it has been stated: “It is He who created all things and
ordered them in due proportions.” One would realise that the issues of order
and proportions are in fact linked to the question of survival of living
things. For example, man could not be drastically different in size from what
he is now and yet be compatible with the gravity field of earth and other
environmental factors.

Also within a given living body, the different parts follow different
proportions. In the case of plants these proportions can be understood in the
Fibonacci numbers. It is the proportions of things that lend beauty and
symmetry to an object. Thus proportion is one of the most important aspects in
the overall Grand Design of creation.

Still another fascinating example can be found in verse 92: 2 which refers to
the creation of man from Alaq (that which clings) within the mother’s womb. The
successive phases in the development of a human being from an embryonic stage
to a full-grown foetus have been mentioned in the Surah Al-Muminun. These
phases were mentioned in the Holy Quran in the seventh century when the science
of embryology was not even born. Incidentally, embryology is a very recent
discipline, developed over a period of not more than 100 years. Thus, it is
indeed amazing that the successive phases of human embryologic development as
mentioned in the Holy Quran have been discovered recently.

Allah has asked man to ponder over His creation and development so that man can
go to the depths of biology and unveil the mysteries of science. Again, an
explanation of the whole chain of biological phenomenon in a summarised form
invites man to study medical science in all its details and also appeals to his
mind to think of Allah, Creator of all creations. The Quran has a particular
style of inviting attention to the craftsmanship in nature and, in this way,
places great emphasis on the acquisition of knowledge.

The Quran never created any bifurcation between religion and science. Thus,
talking in terms of modern perspectives of life, one would need both religion
and science. Science imparts material knowledge, religion teaches us the ethics
of using that knowledge. Religion invites man to ponder over creation and the
Creator, science provides the language for understanding creation and it is the
creation which acts as the signature of the creator. Thus, there is no real
conflict between religion and science.

Unfortunately, men and women today are neither aware of the emphasis the Holy
Quran puts on the acquisition of knowledge nor can they relate some of the
statements in the Holy Quran to the fact of science. This lack of awareness of
the scientific indications in the Holy Quran is firstly owing to the fact that
many recite from the Quran but do not understand the meaning of the verses due
to their poor knowledge of Arabic.

These preachers do not address the burning problems of the day like basic
education, eradication of poverty, social injustice, etc., not to speak of
scientific methods dealing with them. Thus the young generation gets a wrong
impression that the culture of science and the culture of Islam do not go
together. The Quran is based on absolute truth. “And indeed it is the book of
exalted power. No falsehood can approach it from

Subject: What you can do to end Israel's siege on Gaza.

  Hello everyone,

As most of us know, 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza are going through a
devastating time with the Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip. Israel has blocked
the shipment of fuel to Gaza, cutting off the only source of electricity in
Gaza. This inhumane siege is causing shortages of food, medication and other
fundamental necessities, in turn causing much suffering and deaths.

This siege must be put to an end. We need everyone's input and participation
in order to make a difference and have an impact on our government's role in
pressuring Israel to lift the siege.

Canada was the ONLY country that voted against a resolution that:
demands that the occupying Power, Israel, lift immediately the siege it has
imposed on the occupied Gaza Strip, restore continued supply of fuel, food and
medicine and reopen the border crossings; [The Council] calls for immediate
protection of the Palestinian civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory
in compliance with human rights law and international humanitarian law; and
urges all concerned parties to respect the rules of human rights law and
international humanitarian law and to refrain from violence against the
civilian population. - United Nations Office of High Commissioner of Human
Rights (24 January 2008)

Global pressure and assistance can help stop a crisis and protect civilians
from harm.

is the control of every thing, and towards Him, you will be returned.

Sahih Muslim Hadith 5612 Narrated by Buraydah ibn al-Hasib

Paradise is filled with a pure and beautiful fragrance, which the believers
will be able to discern from a great distance. Ahmad, an-Nasaa'ee, Ibn Maajah
and al-Haakim report with a saheeh isnaad that the Messenger (saw) said,
Whoever kills a man of Ahl ad-Dhimmah [non-Muslims living under Islamic
rule] will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, even though its fragrance can
be discerned from a distance of forty years' travelling . [Saheeh al-Jaami

The sayings of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)

He who (falsely) attributes his fatherhood to anyone besides his real
father, knowing that he is not his father, will be forbidden to enter
Paradise.
