Bismillah [IslamCity] Thought for the day
As Salaamu Alaikum A THOUGHT The most important thing for us to know is that afflictive emotion is our ultimate enemy and source of suffering. Once it develops within our mind, it immediately destroys our peace of mind, and eventually destroys our health and even our friendships with other people. All negative activities and (acting out negatively) stem from afflictive emotion. This therefore is our real enemy. And unlike an external enemy that we can keep a distance from, this destroyer of our happiness resides internally always with us. To rid ourselves of its effects we must re-train our minds and ways of thinking. Anonymous PoEtEsS Prayer, wisdom, knowledge and faith are the best gifts that I have……Zohra Moosa *** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided.} (Holy Quran-16:125) {And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33) The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim] The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all. Bismillah [IslamCity] The Levels of Hell
* * * * * * * The Levels of Hell * ** ** There are variations in the degrees of heat in Hell, and in the levels of punishment which Allah (swt) has prepared for its inhabitants; there is not just one level. As Allah says: Verily the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths [grade] of the Fire * (4:145)* It is said that both Paradise and Hell have different levels; the lower the level in Hell, the greater the intensity of the heat. The hypocrites will suffer the worst punishment, and so they will be in the lowest level of Hell. Allah (swt) refers to the levels of Paradise and Hell in the Qur'an: For all there will be degrees [or ranks] according to what they did * (6:132)* Is then one who follows [seeks] the good pleasure of Allah like the one who draws on himself the Wrath of Allah? His abode is Hell - and worst, indeed, is that destination! They are in varying grades with Allah, and Allah is All-Seer of what they do. *(3:162-3)* *'Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Zayd ibn Aslam* said, The levels of paradise go up and the levels of Hell go down *[Ibn Rajab, at-Takhweef min an-Naar, p.5]*. It was reported from some of the Salaf that the sinners amongst the monotheists who enter Hell would be in the first level, the Jews would be in the second level, the Christians in the third level, the Sabians in the fourth level, the Magians in the fifth level, the polytheist Arabs in the sixth level and the hypocrites in the seventh level (1) Some books give names to these levels: the first is called Jahanam, the second Ladhaa, the third al-Hutamah, the fourth as-Sa'eer, the fifth Saqar, the sixth al-Jaheem, and the seventh al-Hawiyah. There is no proof for this division of the inhabitants of Hell or the names that have been attributed to the various levels. The truth is that all of these names - Jahanam, Ladhaa, al-Hutamah, etc - are alternative names by which Hell in its entirety is known, and they are not applied to one part or another of it. It is also known that people will be placed in different levels of Hell according to the extent of their kufr and sins. Bismillah [IslamCity] Israel approves the construction of settlers homes in West Bank settlements
Israel approves the construction of settlers homes in West Bank settlements18 March 2008 Monday March 17, 2008 22:09 by IMEMC News Mayor of Ariel settlement bloc, Ron Nahman, stated that the Israeli government decided to allow him to carry a project to build 48 houses for settlers in Ariel settlement bloc in the northern part of the occupied West Bank. Abu Ghneim Settlement The Israeli government froze the implementation of the project in October 2007 and yesterday an Israeli military spokesperson stated that the government recently allowed the construction and granted approval for several small projects. He added that the government also approved the construction of 52 houses in Maali Admumim settlement, east of Jerusalem, 32 houses in Betar Elit, 32 houses in Shaare Tikva and 32 houses in Al Kana. Ariel settlement bloc is inhibited by secular and religious settlers. It is considered the fourth largest settlement bloc in the occupied West Bank. Settlers leaders reported that the approved projects are smaller than the needs of these settlements, and that certain bans on construction obstructed the growth of these settlements. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert stated on Monday that Israel would continue to build homes for settlers in Jabal Abu Ghneim settlement (Har Homa) in east Jerusalem despite international criticism. Har Homa was built on a once-green mountain owned by Palestinians and was illegally annexed by Israel and the Jerusalem Municipality. The United States said that the plan to build hundreds of houses in the settlement is unhelpful to the Peace efforts. Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, said during a press conference with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Jerusalem that Har Homa settlement is part of Jerusalem, and that Israel would proceed the construction there. Olmert added that under no circumstances Israeli would cede Har Homa and considered it as an inseparable part of Jerusalem, the Israeli Jerusalem Post reported. He claimed that Israel had stopped the construction of settlements in the West Bank and would not annex lands there. Meanwhile, Palestinian Chief Negotiator, Dr. Saeb Erekat, said that Israel must halt all settlement construction and expansion in the West Bank including Jerusalem, and called on the Unites States to intervene. Erekat added that if all parties are serious about achieving peace this year, settlement activities must be stopped. - Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
Bismillah [IslamCity] Respecting the Quran
Home About Conferences Services News Contact Us Greetings from the Islamic Society of North America! Respecting the Quran Ingrid Mattson, PhD President The Islamic Society of North America Geert Wilders is a Dutch politician who broke with a mainstream national party to form his own extreme-right, anti-immigrant platform. Wilders has directed most of his hatred in recent years at Muslims. Wilders has called for the Quran to be banned and in the last few months has been promoting his documentary attacking the Quran. Wilders has intimated that the documentary will show a copy of the Quran being desecrated or destroyed. Geert Wilders wants the Quran to be banned. Many Muslims want Wilders film to be banned. Wilders wants Muslims out of his country and to be denied the rights of other citizens to practice their faith. No doubt, many Dutch Muslims wish that Wilders would just go away (and Wilders has received threats of violence from some). Neither Wilders nor these Muslims will (or should) get what they want. Now what? Many have looked to this situation only through the lense of the law. News articles have focused on threats made to Wilders life and the calls to ban his film. Of course, the threats are unacceptable and criminal. Wilders should be afforded the full protection of the law and those threatening violence against his person should be prosecuted. As for the right of freedom of speech, Wilders film should be treated like other statements within Dutch law. The Netherlands, like most other countries, has certain restrictions on speech that is defamatory, libelous or insults a group of people based on their race or religion. The Dutch Prime Minister has publicly stated that if the film, once released, is judged to have violated the law, then his government has the duty to enforce their legislation. This treatment of Dutch Muslims as equal citizens under the law shows to the Muslim world that the Netherlands is not an enemy to Islam. My plea is that we also need to look at this issue more broadly so we can find better ways of living together in a world in which there will always be people whose views and beliefs we find odd or even obnoxious. We should not justify or excuse extremism of any kind, whether they are racist and hateful attacks on the Muslim community or vigilante violence by Muslims against those who make such statements. What we should try to understand is why some otherwise ordinary people feel caught in the middle, and are sometimes attracted, in part, to the emotional appeals of the extremists. In the last few decades most societies in the world have gone through enormous transitions. Many European countries have had to give up significant symbols of their national sovereignty to join the European Union and even those who did not join the EU have seen significant changes in their societies due to globalization. Even those who have benefited economically and in other ways from these changes are sometimes are troubled by the loss of traditional forms of communal solidarity and culture: local farmers markets, church pews filled with families on a Sunday morning, neighborhood bakeries and craftsmen; landscapes, streetscapes and the rhythm of life have changed. Perhaps each generation has a limited capacity for change, or perhaps none of us, as progressive as we claim to be, can help but romanticize the society of our youth. An increased presence of Muslims in Europe, while part of this change, is not the cause of all these changes. Muslims did not cause a decline in attendance at European churches; they were not responsible for the fact that some churches have been turned into museums or bars. Muslims did not cause the declining birth-rate in many European societies. But the fact that Muslims are building mosques and attending religious services in higher numbers than European Christians, and that many Muslims have larger families than most European Christian families, makes Muslims easy targets of scapegoating. Europe has seen this kind of ethnic hatred before in its history. Financially-successful Jews were for many centuries viewed with jealously and resentment by some European Christians. Bismillah [IslamCity] Media Is Harming Women Reputation And Honor.--Asia Post , Dhaka, second editorial dated 20.3.08
- Media Is Harming Women Reputation And Honor News papers have reported that a seminar titled “Images of women in TV commercials” has highlighted the objectification of women in commercial advertisements. The seminar was held at the CIRDAP auditorium on March 17 and was organized by Center for Development Communication with the support of Oxfam-GB Bangladesh. Noted media personality Muhammad Jahangir hosted the seminar. Professor Saurav Sikder of University of Dhaka, presented the main speech at the seminar along with a slide show featuring clips from different TV advertisements that often objectify women. He said that media policies regarding this issue should be precise so that the image of woman is not demeaned in the commercial,. Professor Sikder added, It is very important to keep in mind the impact these ads have on the children. A young, impressionable mind can be highly influenced by what is being shown on TV. We agree with the seminar speakers about demeaning women through advertisements. In fact it is a world wid phenomenon. In the West the ads of bras and underwear’s are horrible with no sense of shame. The concept of unbridled freedom is the reason for so many shameless happenings everywhere. They may argue that there is nothing called shame , the indication of deeper disease. There is need for an international protocol in this regard for so many reasons including saving the honor of women and saving the consumers from deception. We call upon all to think over this matter. .

Bismillah [IslamCity] What Sort Of Judgments Are These?---Asia Post,Dhaka, editorial dated 20.3.08
What Sort Of Judgments Are These? News Agency has reported that a German court yesterday upheld a regional ban on teachers wearing the headscarf in public schools, rejecting the complaint of a convert to Islam. The Baden-Wuerttemberg state administrative court in the southern city of Stuttgart ruled that teachers may be kept from covering their heads in the classroom if they do so for religious reasons. The decision overturned a ruling by a lower court in July 2006, saying that the teacher had a right to wear the headscarf because Roman Catholic nuns elsewhere in the state wore habits when they taught at a public school. The plaintiff, who has taught at a joint elementary and secondary school for more than three decades, converted to Islam in 1984. We are appalled in such judgments by a German court. We also express our resentment when educational authorities initially barred her from wearing scarf or Hijab which is a clear religious requirement for Muslim ladies. This sort of thing is going on in Europe in many places increasing only hatred among Muslims for the intolerance of some of the western authorities and governments. Muslims are charged of intolerance but we find such attitude, action and judgment more intolerant and against decency, democracy, human rights and religious rights. We ask European Union to do something about this as this problem has spread to several countries in Europe.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Vatican in Saudi talks on building churches
Vatican in Saudi talks on building churches · Pope's spokesman hopeful of 'historic' agreement · Secret negotiations follow King Abdullah's Rome visit John Hooper in Rome The Guardian, Tuesday March 18 2008 The Vatican has been holding secret talks with the Saudi Arabian authorities on building churches in Muhammad's homeland, according to one of Pope Benedict's most senior Middle East representatives. Archbishop Paul-Mounged El-Hashem said: Discussions are under way to allow the construction of churches in the kingdom. We cannot forecast the outcome. But, speaking to the news agency Agence France-Presse, the Lebanese prelate, the Pope's envoy in the Gulf, added: There are around three or four million Christians in Saudi Arabia, and we hope they will have churches. At the Vatican, the Pope's spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, said: If we manage to obtain authorisation for the construction of the first church, it will be an outcome of historic dimensions. The opening last Friday of the first church in Qatar left Saudi Arabia as the only country in the region that still bans the building of churches and all forms of open Christian worship. However the construction of even one church on Saudi territory would outrage Islamist militants. Saudi Arabia - home to Islam's holiest sites, at Mecca and Medina - is regarded by Muslims as sacred soil. The Saudi authorities, inspired by the rigorous doctrine of Wahhabism, ban all non-Muslim religious rituals and materials. Bibles and crucifixes are confiscated at points of entry to the kingdom. Diplomats in Rome said talks on the building of churches would be consistent with recent developments. Saudi Arabia is among the few countries that do not have diplomatic links with the Vatican, but sources in Rome say the Saudis are keen to establish formal relations. Last November, King Abdullah became the first Saudi monarch to visit the Vatican. The Vatican demands religious freedom as a condition for the opening of diplomatic relations. Pope Benedict has made it one of the chief aims of his papacy to press for reciprocity of treatment by Muslims of Christians. Vatican officials note privately that while Muslims are free to worship openly in Europe, Roman Catholics are subject to official and unofficial restrictions in many Muslim countries. Christians - mainly foreign workers - account for almost 4% of the Saudi population. Estimates of the number of Roman Catholics range up to 900,000. In Qatar last Saturday, some 15,000 people attended an inaugural mass at the country's first church. Our Lady of the Rosary in Doha, which has no or crosses on its exterior, is one of five Christian places of worship planned in the state, which borders Saudi Arabia. Addressing the reciprocity issue, Qatar's deputy prime minister, Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, said: We are enjoying the construction of mosques and Islamic centres in the west, so we must be fair [to Christians]. Hashem revealed the existence of the talks with Saudi Arabia while speaking on the sidelines of a Doha event. He also said he expected an announcement soon on the establishment of diplomatic ties with the neighbouring Arabian state of Oman. The Pope is expected later this year to meet representatives of 138 Muslim scholars who wrote a letter to Christian leaders last October calling for peace between the two religions. guardian.co.uk © Guardian News and Media Limited 2008 - Never miss a thing. Bismillah [IslamCity] hadith: Rememberence in gathering regret
Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: No people sit in a gathering in which they do not remember Allaah or send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), but it will be a source of regret for them on the Day of Resurrection, even if they enter Paradise as a reward. Narrated by Ahmad (2/463) and classed as saheeh by the commentators according to the conditions of the two Shaykhs (al-Bukhaari and Muslim), and by Shaykh al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (no. 76)
