Bismillah [IslamCity] Rice, death and the dollar

2008-04-26 Thread Erooth Mohamed

*Rice, death and the dollar*
By Spengler
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/JD22Dj01.html

The global food crisis is a monetary phenomenon, an unintended consequence
of America's attempt to inflate its way out of a market failure. There are
long-term reasons for food prices to rise, but the unprecedented spike in
grain prices during the past year stems from the weakness of the American
dollar. Washington's economic misery now threatens to become a geopolitical
catastrophe.

Months ago, I offered that China, Russia and other cash-rich nations held
the antidote to the incipient credit crisis: If the US wants to remain the
magnet for world capital flows it became during the 1990s, it will have to
allow the savers of the world to become partners in the US economy, that is,
to buy into its first-rank companies.(Western grasshoppers and
Chinese antshttp://www.atimes.com/atimes/Global_Economy/II05Dj01.html,
Asia Times Online, September 5, 2007.)

No such thing occurred, of course, as Washington has made it clear that it
would not allow sovereign funds to own the likes of Citicorp. What are the
world's investors doing with the trillion dollars a year they used to invest
in American securities, including subprime derivatives and various forms of
collateralized obligations that turned out to have more obligation than
collateral? They aren't buying American companies because they are not
permitted to. They are buying food and other stores of value instead.

Washington has weakened the value of the dollar as a palliative for the
credit crisis, so much so that nobody seems to doubt that the US dollar
will lose its status as the world's reserve currency, as journalist Amity
Shlaes wrote in an April 9 Bloomberg News column entitled Monks may hold
clue to dollar's future.

Perhaps the dollar won't surrender its anchor role so soon, Shlaes
continued. And perhaps that loss, if it comes, will happen because of
events that take place nowhere near men in suits at a central bank. Maybe
the answer to the dollar's riddle can be found in the cellphone photo image
of a Tibetan monk in crimson and orange squaring off with a Chinese soldier
... China might recede into years of ethnic chaos. In any of these cases,
the new Chinese government won't be forced to deliver the same growth, and
therefore won't spend commensurate energy tending the dollar ... The flash
of orange in the robe of the monk is important enough to change the picture
for the greenback.

Misguided is not the word for this sort of thinking. However unlikely it
might be, one cannot exclude the possibility that ethnic chaos will
afflict China at some future point. The one thing that can be stated with
certainty is that long before chaos reaches China, it will have shattered a
great deal of the rest of the world.

China is exchanging its depreciating reserves of US dollars for things of
value, notably rice, with frightening consequences for dependent countries,
and deadly consequences for American foreign policy.

The chart below shows the price of 100 pounds of rice against the euro's
parity against the US dollar during the past 12 months. The regression fit
is 90%. There is an even tighter relationship between the price of rice and
the price of oil, another store of value against dollar depreciation.

*Rice price vs Euro/US$ rate, April 15, 2007 to April 15, 2008
*
As the chart makes clear, the ascent of the cost of rice to $24 from $10 per
hundredweight over the past year tracks the declining value of the American
dollar. The link between the declining parity of the US unit and the rising
price of commodities, including oil as well as rice and other wares, is
indisputable. China has bid aggressively for rice all year, and last week
banned rice exports, along with Vietnam and several other producers.

*Euro/US$ rate vs rice and oil, April 16, 2007 to April 16, 2008*

For developing countries whose currencies track the American dollar and
whose purchasing power declines along with the American unit, this is a
catastrophe, as World Bank president Robert Zoellick warned the Group of
Seven industrial nations in Washington last week. Food security suddenly has
become the top item on the strategic agenda.

Never before in history has hunger become a global threat in a period of
plentiful harvests. Global rice production will hit a record of 423 million
tons in the 2007-2008 crop year, enough to satisfy global demand. The
trouble is that only 7% of the world's rice supply is exported, because
local demand is met by local production. Any significant increase in rice
stockpiles cuts deeply into available supply for export, leading to a spike
in prices. Because such a small proportion of the global rice supply trades,
the monetary shock from the weak dollar was sufficient to more than double
its price.

It is not only rice, of course, that the cash-rich countries of the world
are buying as a store of value; the price of wheat, soy and other grains has

Let's all remember to do this today, it just took me less than a
minute to do so!

House Votes On 60th Anniversary of Israel
Today, House Considers Resolution Celebrating Israel’s Founding

Take Action!

Today, April 22, 2008, the House of Representatives will consider
H.Con.Res 322 , a resolution recognizing the 60th Anniversary of the
founding of Israel and reaffirming the friendship and cooperation
between the United States and Israel. The non-binding resolution will
be debated under suspension of the rules this afternoon. A vote is
expected before 7:00 PM this evening. The resolution is sponsored by
Majority Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and has over 200 cosponsors. It
is expected to attain the 2/3 vote need to pass under suspension of
the rules.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) urges you to
contact the House of Representatives asking your Member of Congress
to oppose this resolution because it fails to present the reality of
the consequences of the birth of the State of Israel. Since this vote
is happening today, ADC encourages you to call your representative at
once. If you know your representative, you can contact them through
the main switchboard at (202) 224-3121. If you do not know your
Member of Congress or would like their direct number please visit
this website: http://capwiz.com/adc/dbq/officials/ . You may also

TALKING POINTS:

The sixtieth anniversary of the creation of the State of Israel does
not call for celebration but for an honest assessment of how the
manner in which the State was created and its consequences. The
creation of the State is the single event that led to on-going
hostility between Arabs and Israelis, led to the instability of the
Middle East region, a humanitarian crisis, and the continuation of
the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians that literally worsens
by the hour sixty years later.

The creation of the State of Israel meant the destruction of over 400
Palestinian towns and villages and the forced expulsion of 711,000
Palestinians. Some of those Palestinian families still hold on to the
keys to their homes that were overtaken in 1948. Generations of those
original families still live in refugee camps. Over the intervening
sixty years no concrete action has been taken to resolve this refugee
problem. The refugee population now numbers 4.5 million Palestinians.

Sixty years later, Israel and Palestine are consumed in violence.
Innocent Palestinians and Israelis are both dying in the conflict.
The United States contributes to the violence by providing military
aid. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza spirals out of control. The
majority of Palestinians live in abject poverty. Those populations
remain vulnerable to extremist organizations. Israel continues
collective punishment of the Palestinian population through the
military occupation of Palestinian lands. This collective punishment
includes home demolitions, expansion of illegal outposts and
settlements, barrier walls, blocked access to medical care, check-
points and targeting of the civilian population by the Israeli
Defense Forces.

The United States Congress should not pass one-sided resolutions that
fail to address the entirety of what the creation of the State of
Israel has meant to the very people that live there -- Palestinians
and Israelis.Instead, the US should support a just and lasting peace
between these communities by encouraging dialogue, diplomacy and the
efforts of ordinary Israelis and Palestinians to seek peace and
justice with one another.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Catholic Church for Saudi Arabia other muslim countries

2008-04-26 Thread Shahid
The real reason for all these churches being built is found in #4, the last
article, which is so Qatar has a chance to host Olympic games. Ignoring the
command of the Prophet (sallallahua alayhi wassalam), just so they can make
money from the Olympic games... and it seems to be the reason other are
following Qatar.

First Catholic Church for Saudi Arabia
Published: March 18, 2008

Negotiations are underway to build the first Catholic church in Saudi Arabia
with King Abdullah lending his support for its construction. Vatican Radio
reports the Vatican and the Saudi government are currently in talks to allow
the church despite the kingdoms ban on allowing the construction of any
non-Muslim place of worship. No religion other than Islam is allowed to
schedule public services, and even the possession of bibles, rosaries, and
crucifixes is forbidden. Saudi Arabia is the only country on the Arabian
Peninsula without a Catholic Church despite the 800,000 Catholics - virtually
all of who are foreign workers. While Saudi Arabia does not have formal
diplomatic relations with the Holy See, King Abdullah became the first reigning
Saudi monarch ever to visit the Vatican last November.

Commenting after his meeting with the Pope Vatican officials confirmed the
Pontiff pressed for permission to open a Catholic church in the kingdom. Holy
See spokesman Fr Federico Lombardi said that opening a Catholic parish in the
Islamic land would be a historic achievement for religious freedom and a
major step forward for inter-religious dialogue. The apostolic nuncio to
Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, Archbishop
Paul-Mounged El-Hachem, is reportedly the lead Vatican negotiator in talks with
Saudi officials.

Vatican-Saudi talks on Churches
[Archbishop Paul-Mounged el-Hachem (14 March 2008)]

Archbishop Hashem discussed the Saudi talks whilst visiting Qatar. The Vatican
is holding talks with Saudi Arabia on building the first church in the kingdom,
where some 1.5m Christians are not allowed to worship publicly. Archbishop
Paul-Mounged el-Hachem, one of Pope Benedict XVI's most senior Middle East
representatives, said the discussions had begun a few weeks ago. But the
archbishop cautioned that the Vatican could not predict the outcome. The
discussions come in the wake of King Abdullah's historic meeting with the Pope
at the Vatican last November. A Catholic-Muslim Forum was also set up by the
Pope two weeks ago to repair relations between the two faiths after the crisis
caused by a speech he gave in Germany in 2006, in which he appeared to
associate Islam with violence. 'Reciprocity' The disclosure of talks between
the Vatican and Saudi Arabia, which do not have diplomatic ties, came soon
after the first Roman Catholic church in the Qatari capital, Doha, was opened
in a service attended by 15,000 people. Archbishop Hachem, the Apostolic Nuncio
to Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Bahrain and the UAE, who attended the inauguration,
said he hoped there would soon be a similar church for the many Christians in
neighbouring Saudi Arabia. If we manage to obtain authorization for the
construction of the first church, it will be an outcome of historic dimensions

# 3

Father Federico Lombardi Spokesman for Pope Benedict Discussions are under way
to allow the construction of churches in the kingdom, he said. Although he
made clear the outcome was uncertain, the archbishop added that a church in
Saudi Arabia would be an important sign of reciprocity between Muslims and
Christians. The Vatican has noted that Muslims are free to worship openly in
Europe and demands religious freedom as a condition for the opening of
diplomatic relations. About a million Catholics, many of them migrant workers
from the Philippines, live in Saudi Arabia. They are allowed to worship in
private, mostly in people's homes, but worship in public places and outward
signs of faith, such as crucifixes, are forbidden. The last Christian priest
was expelled from the kingdom in 1985. Christians complain that rules are not
clear and that the Saudi religious authorities, who enforce the kingdom's
conservative brand of Islam, sometimes crack down on legitimate congregations.
The authorities cite a tradition of the Prophet Muhammad that only Islam can be

Bismillah [IslamCity] anti-islam: Austrian minister sparks controversy over teachers wearing headscarves

Austrian minister sparks controversy over teachers wearing headscarves
(AFP, March 09, 2005)

Austria's education ministry said Wednesday that public school teachers would
not be banned from wearing the traditional Islamic headscarf despite
controversial comments by the country's new interior minister.

Liese Prokop, speaking to the weekly Falter, said she found teachers wearing
the headscarf in public schools shocking.

I don't know if a ban of the headscarf is legally possible, but I am in favor
of it, the new minister of the governing conservative party was quoted as
saying Tuesday. I find it shocking because it does not correspond to the
values of our society and tolerance is going too far.

Prokop also denounced forced marriages, honor killings and wife battery in
Austria's minority Muslim community.

Omar Al-Rawi, a Muslim community leader, said the statements amounted to a
slap in the face of Muslim women.

On Wednesday, education ministry spokesman Ronald Zecha told AFP that there was
no proposal to bar teachers from wearing the headgear in public schools.

There is no problem in Austria, because we have a system of good cooperation
and of reciprocal tolerance with the different religious communities, Zecha
said.

Austria established freedom of religion in 1912, he said.

The wearing of the Islamic headscarf has been the subject of heated debate
across Europe. In France, it was banned in public schools after a protracted
legal and political battle.

Bismillah [IslamCity] anti-Islam: German businessman who printed name of Quran on toilet paper will face trial

German businessman who printed name of Quran on toilet paper will face trial

BERLIN (AP) - A German businessman who printed the name of the Quran on toilet
paper and offered the rolls for sale to mosques and media will face trial for
disturbing the peace.

The man, identified only as Manfred van H., is scheduled to go on trial Feb. 23
at a court in Luedinghausen in western Germany, Jochen Dyhr, a spokesman for
judicial authorities in nearby Muenster, said Thursday.

The businessman last summer printed sheets of toilet paper with the sentence
Koran, the Holy Qur'aen and sent them to about 15 mosques, television
stations and magazines.

In an accompanying letter, authorities say, he asserted that Islam's holy book
is a cookbook for terrorists that calls for acts of violence.

He proposed that a memorial to all victims of Islamic terror be set up,
financed by sales of the toilet paper -- an offer that prosecutors say he also
posted on the Internet.

The businessman's offer led to criminal complaints and telephone death threats
against him.

Prosecutors argue that the man's actions overstepped the legally guaranteed
freedom to criticize other religions. They say he has cited his right to
freedom of opinion and artistic expression, and said his aim was to provoke
rather than actually sell the toilet paper.

Re: Bismillah [IslamCity] fatwa: Openly criticising the Muslim ruler

2008-04-26 Thread javed akhtar
This is a nice excuse to continue our subservience.

I think this ruling no more applies and is tantamount to rubbing salt on the
wound. Muslim ummah is going thru treachery and bloodbath with full connivance
of the rulers. We have a situation where it is mandatory for the muslims to
overthrow their rulers and establish a just rule, else I fear we face total
annihilation.

  Question:

Is it permissible to openly criticize the Muslim ruler in front of a gathering
and the people?

Answer:

We have spoken about this issue many times before! It is not permissible to
speak about the rulers because this brings about evil and differing in the
society and it splits the unity of the Muslims and cause hatred between the
ruler and the ruled. And this splitting and evil leads to rebellion against the
ruler and the shedding of blood and matters which have blameworthy
consequences. So if you have a comment about them, take it to the ruler
secretly by visiting him, if possible, or by writing to him or by informing
someone who can convey it to the ruler as a sincere advice to him, and it
should be done secretly not openly and this has been mentioned in the hadeeth,
Whoever wishes to advise the ruler, then let him not mention it in public,
rather let him take the ruler by his hand. So if he listens then that is that,
and if not then he has fulfilled that which was upon him. And this meaning has
been reported from the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahualaihi wasallam).

Bismillah [IslamCity] Is Dubai Helping Ethnic cleansing in Palestine?

2008-04-26 Thread Khalid Amayreh

Is Dubai helping ethnic cleansing in Palestine?
  [ 20/04/2008 - 10:47 PM ]

From Khalid Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem

The government of Dubai recently allowed a major bankroller of Jewish
settlement expansion in the West Bank to open at least two Jewelry stores in
the Gulf emirate.

According to reliable sources in the United Arab Emirates, of which Dubai
is a key member-state, Israeli billionaire and diamond magnate Lev Leviev is
preparing to open two large jewelry stores in Dubai, a world's hub of Jewelry
trading.

The first store will be opened soon at the Burj Dubai Mall (Dubai Mall
Tower) while a second store is slated to be opened later this year in the new
Atlantis Hotel on the Jumeirah Palm Island.

Leviev has already opened one store in Dubai in March, 2008, in the
lobby of al-Qasr Hotel on Madinat Jumeirah.

The Dubai authorities were initially reluctant to grant the Israeli
billionaire a license to do business in the oil-rich emirate. However, Leviev
reportedly successfully lobbied North American and European connections to
convince Dubai officials to reconsider their objections.

Leviev's companies, including Africa-Israel and Leader Management
Development as well as several other subsidiaries, have been quite active in
displacing Palestinian villagers from their homes and land in several parts of
the West Bank.

The two firms have built hundreds of settler units in at least five
Jewish settlements constructed on land illegally seized from its Arab
proprietors.

In recent years, a company called Danya Cebus, a subsidiary of Leviev's
Africa-Israel built the settlement of Zufim on private Arab land seized from
the village of Jayyous. The same company has built hundreds of settler units
on land stolen from the village of Bilin. Numerous additional settler units
were built in the two large settlements of Ma'ali Adomim, a few kilometers east
of Jerusalem, and Har Homa, near the predominantly Christian Arab town of Beit
Sahur.

Israel hopes that these settlements will cut off East Jerusalem from the
rest West Bank, thus making the Palestinian dream of making the city the future
capital of a prospective Palestinian state utterly unrealistic and outright
impossible.

In addition to his intensive involvement in Jewish settlement expansion,
including colonies defined by the inherently unjust Israeli justice system as
manifestly illegal, Leviev has donated undisclosed but reportedly large sums
of money to the Land Redemption Fund, a land-grabbing organization affiliated
with Gush Emunim, the ideological group behind Jewish settlement activities in
the West Bank.

According to the Israeli newspaper, Yedeot Ahronot, the Land Redemption
Fund uses fraud and strong-arm tactics to seize land from Palestinians for
settlement expansion.

Last year the Israeli group, Peace Now, and other settlement-watch
groups, discovered that hundreds of settler units built in the settlement of
Matityahu in the Salfit region, in the central West Bank, were actually built
on private Palestinian land seized at gun point from its legal and rightful
Palestinian owners.

However, despite the discovery, the Israeli government refused to
dismantle the illegal settler units, with one Israeli official saying that
this problem will be discussed with the Palestinian Authority in the context
of final-status talks.

Leviev's companies are actually destroying the lives of thousands of
Palestinians by narrowing their horizons and dispossessing them of their
livelihoods.

Abdullah Abu Rahma from the village of Bilin and Sharif Omar from Jayyous
told representative of the human rights group Adala (www.adalahny.org), which
monitors Israeli theft Palestinian land, that Leviev's companies are
destroying the olive groves and farms that have sustained our villages for
centuries.

We call on people of conscience all over the world to impose broad
boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those
applied against apartheid South Africa.

The mayor of Jayous, which suffered incalculable losses due to Leviev's
destructive rampage in the northern West Bank, told this reporter that Leveiv
is indulging in ethnic cleansing against our community and our farmers.

He is building settlements at our expense; he is destroying our land,
our farms, and our orchards, and at the same time he is opening business in
Dubai in order to finance his crimes against our people. Shame on Dubai and its
government.

Some Jewish organizations opposed to the Israeli policy of ethnic
cleansing and apartheid have also called on the countries of the world to
boycott Israeli businesses and firms involved in disposing Palestinians of
their land.

We call on the government and people of the United Arab Emirates to join
the growing international campaign

Bismillah [IslamCity] How Arabs have been driven out of Hebron

How Arabs have been driven out of Hebron
By Mario Vargas Llosa.

Hebron is the image of desolation and pain. I'm talking of the H-2 sector, the
oldest part of this ancient city, which is under Israeli military control and
where some 500 colonos – settlers – live in four settlements. It is one of the
holiest places of Judaism and Islam, the Tomb of the Patriarchs, where in
February 1994, the settler Baruch Goldstein machine-gunned Muslims at prayer,
killing 29 and wounding dozens.
To protect these settlers, the zone bristles with barriers, camps and military
posts, and is overrun by Israeli patrols. But such mobilisation will soon be
unnecessary because this part of Hebron, subject to ethnic and religious
cleansing, will soon have no Arab residents.
Its centuries-old market, which was once as multi-coloured, varied and bustling
as that of Jerusalem, is now empty and the doors of all the shops are sealed.
Travelling around, you feel in limbo. So too when you walk through the
surrounding deserted streets, with shopfronts shuttered with metal sheets and
on whose roofs you glimpse military posts. The walls of this entire semi-empty
neighbourhood are filled with racist inscriptions: Death to the Arabs.
Some 25,000 residents have been cleared from their homes in H-2 zone in five
years. In the Tel Rumeida neighbourhood alone, where there is a settlement of
the same name, barely 50 out of 500 Arab families remain.
The extraordinary thing is that they haven't already gone, subjected as they
are to systematic and ferocious harassment by settlers, who stone them, throw
rubbish and excrement at their houses, invade and destroy their homes, and
attack their children when they return from school, to the absolute
indifference of Israeli soldiers who witness these atrocities.
No one told me this: I saw it with my own eyes and heard with my own ears from
the victims themselves. I have a video of the hair-raising scene of children
from Tel Rumeida settlement stoning and kicking Arab schoolchildren and their
teachers who, to protect themselves, returned home in groups instead of
individually. When I told Israeli friends this, some looked at me with
incredulity and I saw they suspected I exaggerated or lied, as novelists often
do. It turned out that none had ever set foot in Hebron.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Robert Fisk: Painters love martyrs and prophets

2008-04-26 Thread Arif Bhuiyan
Painters love martyrs and prophets
Saint Sebastian's death – arrows puncturing skin – is straight out of Shia
martyrology
By Robert Fisk

Nothing annoys me more than a magnificent Renaissance painting which carries
the deadly label school of. Why any of the great masters would let some
junior copy or finish off his martyrdoms and crucifixions perplexes me,
although – in an age when paintings were commissioned by popes and dukes –
speed and commercial success were probably more important than artistic pride.
Indeed, it was only when I began to examine the provenance of Hizbollah
martyr portraits in Lebanon that I discovered the same principle applied. The
top painter of Hizbollah's dead – those young men invariably shot, blown up or
bombed to death by Israel – is a man called Shelala.
But when I tracked his studio down in the Jnah suburb of south Beirut, I found
that he would instruct a team of enthusiasts how to paint the martyr''s face –
how big his beard should be, whether the tulips should be on the right or left
of his head – and let them get on with the work. He would drop by later to
touch up an eye or a pair of spectacles on the dead man's face before the
finished product was carted off to be strung on an electric pylon or a cemetery
wall in southern Lebanon. School of Shelala.
I have to say that Pinturicchio of Perugia – Bernardino di Betto di Biagio for
Renaissance scholars – is a cut above Shelala. His 15th-century virgins and
saints have that luminescent quality and perspective that most Renaissance
painting exults, and the Umbrian city's exhibition of his work – along with the
confusingly named Perugino of Castel della Pieve (Pietro di Cristoforo
Vannucci) – is a claustrophobic but dutiful collection of religious pretension
and obedience.
Yet I had forgotten the degree to which these two men – along with their
schools and countless other minor artists across Italy – focused their
attention on martyrs and anchorites, lonely old hermits who live out their days
in grim contemplation of God's goodness and cruelty.
The martyrs are familiar enough. Christ's body and blood are set pieces, the
red fountains always pouring from identical wounds, the feet bleeding into
little piles of gore where miniature but obsessive monks can be seen staring at
the stuff with unbecoming enthusiasm.
The violence of the age marries perfectly into the Shia martyrology of the
imams Ali and Hussein, whose blood-boltered features dominate the posters
beside the great mosques of Najaf and Kufa and Kerbala. Indeed, St Sebastian's
death – all arrows puncturing white skin – is straight out of Shia martyrology.
One altarpiece I came across in Perugia this week showed a remarkably pristine
version of the crucifixion, with scarcely a sign of holy wounds, until, at the
bottom right-hand corner, I espied the head of St Peter with what looked like a
meat cleaver in the top of his skull, from which rained the inevitable blood.
His face, eyes squinting in pain, bore the expression of a man who, well, who
has just been bashed over the head with a meat cleaver. A violent time, the
Renaissance.
But a time of contemplation. Repeatedly, old St Jerome turns up in
Pinturicchio's work. Over and over again, the ancient hermit can be seen
kneeling or stooping in front of a cave amid barren mountains, shaggy-bearded –
sometimes ginger, sometimes pepper and salt – staring at some distant vision.
That this was painted at a time when Ferdinand and Isabella's Spanish
cartoonists were obscenely portraying another holy man – Mohamed by name – who
received another message from God, only marks the thin line between devotion
and hatred. Yes, late 15th-century Spanish artists far outdid the puerile
cartoons of 21st-century Denmark.
But it was not just the Prophet whom St Jerome reminded me of. Who else comes
to mind? Well, I can think of another man, his long beard growing whiter with
age, who lives in caves and believes in visions and messages. I've even met him
beside just such a cave. A night on the bare mountain must be just as bleak in
Pushtunistan as it was in Umbria although the effects, as we know, can be
catastrophically different.
In an age when we are still supposed to believe in the clash of civilisations
– how anyone was taken in by Huntingdon's preposterous book is still a mystery
to me – and in faith foundations created by equally preposterous former prime
ministers, it does no harm to look at the work of my old Palestinian friend
Tarif Khalidi who lives just round the corner from me in Beirut.
When he first turned up to teach at Cambridge, I pointed out of the window of
his apartment and asked him if he didn't feel a bit far from home with the
towers of King's College opposite his home. But what do they remind you of,
Fisky? he asked. I thought for a moment before the obvious dawned on me.
Minarets, I asked? Exactly, Fisky! he roared.
And so I turn to his seminal book, The Muslim

Peace TV

PEACE TV channel originates in India and is run all over the world without any
restrictions. This is the only channel full time propagating Islam (meaning
peace). It is also trying to remove all the misconceptions about Islam in the
best possible way.

How sad and unfortunate that the telecast of such a unique Islamic channel has
been barred by Pemra in the country so proudly called the Islamic Republic of
Pakistan.

I appeal to Muslims all over the world to pressure Pemra to remove all
restrictions on this channel.

I also appeal to all our religious parties to strongly agitate against this
most unfortunate act of Pemra.

I would also like to draw the attention of the new government in this regard.
Hoping a new bill will free this most unobjectionable channel also.

AS democracy’s shades and colours start to show up on the faces and in the
lives of a hopeful nation, we hope that this will also mean a liberated media
in the true sense.

Tolerance and liberty, freedom of thought and speechthis is not too much to
expect.

A channel by the name of ‘Peace TV’ — an eye-opening, educative channel which
is the need of today’s times for Muslims and the world alike -- is still banned
on our cables. When cable operators are asked, they simply say that Pemra laws
have forbidden it.

The information minister should look into the matter, and not let a
disappointment change into permanent disillusionment.

  Abu Hurairah (Radhiallaho anha) reported:
The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,

  The uttering of the words:
Subhan-Allah (Allah is free from imperfection),
Al-hamdu lillah (all praise is due to Allah),
La ilaha illallah (there is no true god except Allah) and
Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)'

Hadith

Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri (Radhiallaho anha) reported about Surat Al-Ikhlas
(Chapter 112): The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said, By
Him in Whose Hand my soul is, it is equivalent to one-third of the Qur'an.''

According to another version, he (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said to his
Companions, Is anyone of you incapable of reciting one-third of the Qur'an in
one night?'' They considered it burdensome and said: O Messenger of Allah,
which of us can afford to do that?'' He (Sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam) said,
Surat Al-Ikhlas [Say: He is Allah (the) One] is equivalent to one-third of the
Qur'an.''

  [Al-Bukhari]

  Commentary:
One reading of Surat Al-Ikhlas has return and reward equal to the recitation
of one-third of the Qur'an. This Surah mentions the Oneness of Allah. This is
enough to make one realize how much Allah (SWT) likes the recitation and
remembrance of His Oneness. This is the reason, He has declared Shirk
(polytheism) an absolutely unpardonable sin.
