Bismillah [IslamCity] Rulings Concerning Eid Al-Fitr
Praise be to Allaah. Allaah has set out several rulings concerning Eid, including the following: *1 – It is mustahabb to recite takbeer during the night of Eid from sunset on the last day of Ramadaan until the imam comes to lead the prayer. The format of the takbeer is as follows: * Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaahi'l-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god except Allaah, Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, and all praise be to Allaah). Or you can say Allaahu akbar three times, so you say: Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, laa ilaaha ill-Allaah, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, Allaahu akbar, wa Lillaahi'l-hamd (Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great, there is no god except Allaah, Allaah is Most Great, Allaah is Most Great , Allaah is Most Great, and all praise be to Allaah). Both are permissible. Men should raise their voices reciting this dhikr in the marketplaces, mosques and homes, but women should not raise their voices. *2 – You should eat an odd number of dates before leaving for the Eid prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not set out on the day of Eid until he had eaten an odd number of dates. He should stick to an odd number as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did. * *3 – You should wear your best clothes – this is for men. With regard to women, they should not wear beautiful clothes when they go out to the Eid prayer-place, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Let them go out looking decent i.e., in regular clothes that are not fancy. It is haraam for them to go out wearing perfume and makeup. * *4 – Some of the scholars regarded it as mustahabb to do ghusl for the Eid prayer, because it is narrated that some of the salaf did this. Doing ghusl for Eid prayer is mustahabb, just as it is prescribed for Jumu'ah because one is going to meet people. So if one does ghusl, that is good. * *5 – The Eid prayer. The Muslims are unanimously agreed that the Eid prayer is prescribed in Islam. Some of them say that it is Sunnah, some say that it is fard kafaayah (a communal obligation) and some say that it is fard 'ayn (an individual obligation), and that not doing it is a sin. They quoted as evidence the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) commanded even the virgins and women in seclusion, i.e., those who did not ordinarily come out, to attend the Eid prayer place, except that those who were menstruating should keep away from the prayer-place itself, because it is not permissible for a menstruating woman to stay in the mosque; it is permissible for her to pass through but not to stay there. * It seems to me, based on the evidence, that it is fard 'ayn (an individual obligation) and that every male is obliged to attend the Eid prayer except for those who have an excuse. This was the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him). *In the first rak'ah the imam should recite Sabbih isma rabbika al-A'ala (Soorat al-A'la 87) and in the second rak'ah he should recite Hal ataaka hadeeth ul-ghaashiyah (al-Ghaashiyah 88). Or he may recite Soorat Qaaf (50) in the first and Soorat al-Qamar (54) in the second. Both options are narrated in saheeh reports from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). * *6 – If Jumu'ah and Eid fall on the same day, the Eid prayer should be held, as should Jumu'ah prayer, as is indicated by the apparent meaning of the hadeeth of al-Nu'maan ibn Basheer which was narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh. But those who attend the Eid prayer with the imam may attend Jumu'ah if they wish, or they may pray Zuhr. * * * *7 – One of the rulings on Eid prayer is that according to many scholars, if a person comes to the Eid prayer-place before the imam comes, he should sit down and not pray two rak'ahs, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed Eid with two rak'ahs, and he did not offer any prayer before or after it. * Some of the scholars are of the view that when a person comes he should not sit down until he has prayed two rak'ahs, because the Eid prayer-place is a mosque, based on the fact that menstruating women are not allowed there, so it comes under the same rulings as a mosque, which indicates that it is a mosque. Based on this, it comes under the general meaning of the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): When any one of you enters the mosque, let him not sit down until he has prayed two rak'ahs. With regard to the fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not offer any prayer before or after the Eid prayer, that is because when he arrived the prayer started. *Thus it is proven that we should pray Tahiyyat al-Masjid (two rak'ahs to greet the mosque) when

Bismillah [IslamCity] hadith: Reward for Laylat al-Qadr
The Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: Whoever stays up during Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of earning reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven. al-Bukhaari, 1910 Abu Hurayrah (radhiallahu `anhu) narrated that the Messenger (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) said: Whoever stands (in qiyaam) in Laylat ul-Qadr [and it is facilitated for him] out of faith and expectation (of Allah's reward), will have all of his previous sins forgiven. Al-Bukhari and Muslim; the addition and it is facilitated for him is recorded by Ahmad from the report of `Ubaadah Bin as-Samit; it means that he is permitted to be among the sincere worshippers during that blessed night.
Bismillah [IslamCity] Are Indo-Pak Scholars Strong in the Islamic Sciences? An eye opener for salafi's
You mentioned that the TOP ulema of the Indo-Pak subcontinent as good as those found in Arab lands if not better. But my question is, are there as many TOP ulema in the Indo-Pak subcontinent as there are in, for example, Syria, or are there fewer, or more? The reason for asking is because my parents want me to study Islam in the Indo-Pak subcontinent but I, for some reason (perhaps because of the years I spent in my teens as a devout Salafi) cannot seem to shake off the belief that somehow my religious education would be lacking if I were to go to the Indo-Pak subcontinent (especially with regard to learning Arabic since when listening to some of their recited Qaris it still seems as though they cannot properly pronounce anywhere from 4-7 letters found in Arabic) and that in order to advance in my studies I would have to go to Arab lands, meaning that I could start out my education in the Indo-Pak subcontinent, but not complete it. Sorry for so many questions, may Allah reward you and everyone else on the forum who put up with people like me? In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, One of the many reasons and factors that contribute in a youngster becoming a Salafi in the west is the idea of rebelling and going against one’s parents and elders. Many youngsters have the notion that their parents and forefathers who have come from “back home” have no idea of what true Islam is. They think that the Qur’an was revealed in Arabic and the books of Sunnah are also in Arabic, thus our parents and elders don’t even have a clue what they mean. They are merely following the ways, traditions and customs of their forefathers which is not the correct Islam that is practiced in the Arab countries. When these youngsters are honoured with the visit to the sacred places in Makkah al- Mukarrama and Madina al-Munawwara, they say to themselves that these are Arabs who offer their Salat, etc differently from what our parents and elders have taught us. Surely, they understand Islam better than our “traditional” parents. They see that the Muslims in Saudi Arabia are fluent Arabic speakers whilst our elders and also Imams can’t even speak the language. Our Parents and elders don’t know what they are talking about, for they can’t even pronounce the words of the Arabic language correctly. The above is the kind of understanding that unfortunately our youngsters have. This is the reason why they try and learn some Arabic words, such as how are you (kayfa haluka) or ( hayyak Allah), etc…and by doing so, some of them think that they are now much more knowledgeable than their parents, elders and Imams who are from “back home”. There is no denying the fact that parents and elders must also take their share of the blame for this unfortunate occurrence. Our youngsters have been left ignorant of sacred and Islamic knowledge. They are not taught the basics of Aqidah, Hadith, Fiqh, etc. And when they pose a question with regards to a proof (dalil) of some matter, they are rebuked and told not to indulge too deep in these matters. In the local Madrasas (maktabs) where a child spends around 10 years of his life, he comes out without really even learning the basics of his religion. He is told to concentrate more on the Urdu language (not that I condone the learning of Urdu), rather than Arabic. He probably does not have an in-depth understanding of what the four Fqih Madhhabs are, who was Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafi’i, etc… and why we follow a Madhhab, and the list goes on. For many of the parents and societies, attending the evening Madrasas has just become a routine thing, where a child can spend his time rather than trouble the parents at home. The curriculum taught in some of these Madrasas are also non-productive, thus the child graduates from the Madrasa without really learning much about his Deen. This is dirty laundry but the reality and we all need to really wake up and smell the coffee! The consequence of the above is that these youngsters rebel against their parents, elders and against society at large. They are sadly recruited by others who promise them to give them proofs (dalils) from the Qur’an and Sunnah, and are not prevented from asking anything they desire. They are bombarded with Hadiths from Sahih al-Bukhari, Shahih Muslim and other places that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him give him peace) performed his Salat in such a way and raised his hands in such a way, etc. They are also taught some Arabic words which they longed to learn but were not able to do so in their own communities and societies. Thus, given the vulnerability of these youngsters, they become prey to this appealing and attractive invitation. Therefore, Muslim communities in the West really need to reflect and ponder over the situation, thus try to rectify the deficiencies found therein. Youngsters must be taught the various sciences of Islamic knowledge,
Bismillah [IslamCity] Communalism on the rise in Kashmir
Bassam Javed THE current wave of violence unleashed yet again on the Kashmiris by the India Armed Forces, is one of too many in the history of Kashmiris struggle to gain independence from India. While the conscience of the human rights activists sleep over the inescapable truth of Indian brutalities on Kashmiris, the armed forces have over the year granted themselves the legitimacy to kill the Kashmiris and wipe them out from their ancestral lands. India's persistent use of force to solve the problem, which primarily is a political one, has made it a part of an undeniable phenomenon which can be best described as essentially a state terrorism. The issue of plebiscite continues to haunt the Indians who feel that India stands on a morally weak ground. The time has come when UN and the so called super powers live up to their responsibilities in persuading India to abide by the UN resolution for plebiscite or else they would be remembered in the history as the collaborators to this regretful tragedy. As the fate would have it, this time it was started by none other than the State Governor General Sinha himself, who in collusion with the chief minister managed to have 800 hectares of state land allocated to the management of the Hindu shrine Amarnath. The General, who was superseded for the post of Chief of the Army Staff by Mrs. Indra Gandhi due to his communalistic instincts, managed to stay in the lime light and kept on serving first as an ambassador to Nepal, then Governor of Assam and subsequently, the governor Jammu and Kashmir. On analysis, one thing that comes out crystal clear that the general was considered a die hard activist of RSS and as such deployed to pursue Hindutva in areas that held sway to the Indian rule. The after-shocks of allotment of the state land and the pre- dominant reciprocal violent blockade of the Valley by the tentacles of RSS when the allotment order was over turned, unveiled the real communal face of India. Even Nehru had acknowledged the deeply imbedded communal instincts when he wrote in his biography, many a congress was a communalist under his national cloak. Hindu communalism has spread its tentacles in civil society and also succeeded in gaining access to state power. The current spate of renewed movement has created vibes amongst the Indian policy makers as this had the indication of a major intefada with out the show of arms. The reason that hundreds and thousands of Kashmiris assembled enmass on their own to express their dismay was because their very belonging to their lands, to which they hold great sensitivity, was being compromised. On the other hand on over turning of the land allocation decision, the RSS tentacles were moved to Jammu area where they violently protested the decision and blocked the major route to Kashmir. Whosoever, tried to make his way through was tortured to even incapacitation. The whole aim of the invisible power holders of Hindutva was to create a divide between communities living in various provinces on religious and communal lines. The reversal of the order has temporarily stalled the RSS trifurcation plan of Jammu and Kashmir. The RSS claim that out of the six districts only two and a half have a Hindu majority and as such must form part of the union territory or a separate state. Mr. L K Advani had mooted the same idea when he visited Ladakh as home minister. He had also hosted Israeli foreign minister there who advised him to change the demography of the area. The RSS has been deployed to work on the agenda by settling more Hindus down in the valley besides trying to Hindu anise the local populace. The aim is to increase the Hindu population in Kashmir to balance out the plebiscite demand by Kashmiris on Muslim majority basis. The religion wise breakup of the population as per the 1981 census showed that the Muslims were the predominant religious community with 64.19% and Hindus were 32.24%. The 1991 census was not carried out due to the prevalent wave of violence by Hindu forces at that time. However, as per the census of 2001, the Muslims were 66.975 and Hindus were worked out to be 29.63%. This data has subsequently been contested for its veracity by the Hindus who say that it has been massively doctored to paint Hindu population as less than the actual which is relatively more as compared to the quoted figure. The Kashmir issue is being continuously dragged on and on for decades deliberately by the Indian authorities to buy time and take the heat out of the independence demand. The Indians were naïve to have assumed that the worst was over when the valley was relatively calm in its pursuit of Independence demand in the wake of dialogue with Pakistan on the issue. But as it stands today, the Kashmiris have yet again expressed their distrust on the sincerity of the Indians for Kashmir cause in the dialogue and realized that time is being cleverly gained by them to pacify their plebiscite demands. The fact is that the dispute
