How A Muslim Should Slaughter an Animal
A Muslim should take every care to slaughter an animal without subjecting it to
unnecessary pain and torture. The following instructions are deduced from the
teachings of the Noble Prophet (Sallallahu Alayhi Was Sallam)
1. The knife to be used for slaughter, should be very well sharpened so that it
cuts the throat immediately, without causing much pain to the animal.;
2. The knife should not be sharpened in front of the animals;
3. The animal to be slaughtered is to be given food and water; it should not be
slaughtered when it is hungry and thirsty;
4. It should not be brutally dragged along to the place of slaughter;
5. The animal should be slaughtered at an isolated place so that other animals
may not see this sight;
6. It should be laid on the ground with ease, as it is abominable to use undue
force;
7. Only three of its legs should be tied together;
8. As soon as the animal has been placed on the ground, one should hurry to
slaughter it. Undue delay must be avoided;
9. The animal should not be slaughtered with such a force that its head is
severed, or the knife reaches the spinal cord;
10. It is incorrect to slaughter the animal above the neck because it causes
the animal too much pain and agony;
11. The animal should be left in a way as to freely toss its body in the
process of bleeding;
12. After slaughtering, the head should not be cut off nor should the animal be
skinned until the body is totally cold;
13. While slaughtering, a Muslim should say : 'Bismillaahi Allaho Akbar' (In
the name of Allah, Who is the possessor of all greatness)

Al Shaddad Bin Aous has quoted this tradition of the Holy Prophet: God calls
for mercy in everything,so be merciful when you kill and when you slaughter,
sharpen your blade to relieve its pain.
Many allegations have been made that Islamic slaughter is not humane to
animals. However, Professor Schultz and his colleague Dr. Hazim of the Hanover
University, Germany, proved through an experiment, using an Electro
encephalograph (EEG) and Electro Cardiogram (ECG) that *Islamic slaughter is
THE humane method of slaughter* and captive bolt stunning, practiced by the
Western method, causes severe pain to the animal. The results surprised many.
Experimental Details:
1. Several electrodes were surgically implanted at various points of the
skull of all animals, touching the surface of the brain. 2. The animals were
allowed to recover for several weeks. 3. Some animals were slaughtered by
making a swift, deep incision with a sharp knife on the neck cutting the
jugular Veins and carotid Arteries of both sides; as also the trachea and
esophagus-Halal Method.4. Some animals were stunned using a captive bolt pistol
- humane slaughter by the western method.5. During the experiment, EEG and ECG
were recorded on all animals to record the condition of the brain and heart
during the course of slaughter and stunning Results and Discussion:
A. Halal Method
1. The first three seconds from the time of Islamic slaughter as recorded on
the EEG did not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus
indicating that the animal did not feel any pain during or immediately after
the incision.
2. For the following 3 seconds, the EEG recorded a condition of deep sleep -
unconsciousness. This is due to a large quantity of blood gushing out from the
body.
3. After the above mentioned 6 seconds, the EEG recorded zero level, showing
no feeling of pain at all.
4. As the brain message ( EEG ) dropped to zero level, the heart was still
pounding and the body convulsing vigorously (a reflex action of the spinal
cord) driving maximum blood from the body: resulting in hygienic meat for the
consumer.
B. Western method by C.B.P. Stunning
1. The animals were apparently unconscious soon after stunning.
2. EEG showed severe pain immediately after stunning.
3. The hearts of the animal stunned by C.B.P. stopped beating earlier as
compared to those of the animals slaughtered according to the Halal method
resulting in the retention of more blood in the meat. This in turn is
unhygienic for the consumer.

Virtue Cops assigned to guide pilgrims By Abdullah Al-Dani Over 450 members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice have been assigned to serve as pilgrim guides inside the Grand Mosque in Makkah during Haj. They have been deployed throughout the area of Tawaf, corridors and roofs of the Grand Mosque, mainly to guide pilgrims towards areas that may be relatively less crowded and convenient, said Dr. Khaled Bin Muhammed Al-Subai, supervisor of the Commission at the Grand Mosque, Makkah. In collaboration with the Holy Mosque’s Security and Women’s Affairs Unit, the members will monitor the flow of pilgrims. They will also monitor the yards surrounding the Mosque to prevent smoking and possible harassment of women. cast between the soul and the baser self. Allah says: He moves between a man
and his soul and controls it and its attributes. It is between the two fingers
of the Merciful. It sometimes reaches the last limit of the devil and
sometimes rises so high as to the throne of the Almighty.
He who does not enquire about his soul is included among those persons of whom
Allah says in the following verse: They forgot Allah and so He made their
souls forgetful. They are the transgressors.“ [19:67]
It is therefore essential to know the soul and its attributes which is the root
of religion.

Fatwa centers deployed in Holy Sites By Abdullah Al-Dani Over 800 religious guides and 180 interpreters have been deployed in the holy sites and at pilgrim entry points in Jeddah and Madina to assist pilgrims with their language needs and religion-related questions, said Tawfiq Al-Sudairi, deputy minister at the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Daw’a, and Guidance. The services of the Ministry have been extended to provide 123 field centers for fatwa throughout Makkah and Madina to answer all Haj-related questions, in addition to 18 main centers in the city of Makkah and 44 across the holy sites of Muzdalifah, Arafat, and Mina, he said. The Ministry has also provided a toll free number 8002451000 to answer Haj-related questions. As the devotees from all over the world have now started heading to Makkah for their pilgrimage, the Haram central area has been turned into a spiritual center for sermons and instructions on Haj performance and its true spirit, he said. The Islamic ministry, in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank, has been tasked with supervising the Saudi Project for Utilization of Sacrificial Animals, Al-Sudairi said. The Project acts as the agent of pilgrims in carrying out on their behalf the slaughtering of all types of offerings they make and the transport and distribution of the meat, all in accordance with the principles of Shariah. The Ministry has also participated in enforcing the “No Permit, No Haj” law and educating the public about the Haj through a media blitz launched on over 20 satellite TV channels and in-flight TVs on Saudi Arabian Airlines, the major carrier of pilgrims, Al-Sudairi said. Bismillah [IslamCity] fatwa: Differing on Eid Al-Adha
Fatwa on differing on Eid Al-Adha Muslims all over the world should follow the hujjaaj in Eid-ul- Adhaa. This is the only opinion that can unite all of the Muslims. The Fuqahaa (RA) (scholars of Fiqh), did not discuss the issue of ikhtilaaf ulmataali (the situation where each region has its own moon sighting) or ittifaaq ulmataali (the situation where sighting the moon in one place is sufficient for the rest of the world) when it comes to Eid-ul-Adhaa. As a matter of fact, some scholars, such as As-Sarakhsee (from the Hanafee school of thought) in his book 'AlMabsoot' mentioned that there is consensus between the scholars that Muslims should follow the hujjaaj in Eid-ul- Adhaa. 'Arafah is the name of a place, not a day. Whenever Muslims stand in that place during the hajj time, we call that particular day the Day of 'Arafah and the following day is Yawm un-Nahr (Day of Sacrifice) or Eid-ul-Adhaa. Al-Qaadi Zaadah (also from the Hanafee school of thought) said in his treatise, 'Haashiyah', that the day of 'Arafah is the day when Muslims will be standing in 'Arafah. [Haashiyah 2:328] This is why we should follow the hujjaaj in Eid-ul- Adhaa. As for following ISNA, it should be said here that it is one of many Islamic organizations that Muslims can benefit from in the services and the knowledge that they provide. However, one cannot say that we must follow them in every matter similar to the rights of the Khaleefah or Imam unless the Muslims give them bay'ah (pledge of allegiance). If anyone claims that they should be treated as such he is bringing forth an innovation. Also, it is not correct to say that we should not follow ISNA at all. Rather, we follow the daleel (evidence from Qur'an and Sunnah). While ISNA did not follow the hujjaaj on the day of the Eid last year, other organizations in America did and announced Eid to be on Thursday. These organizations include, for instance, the Assembly of Muslim Jurists in America (composed of scholars from around the globe). Many major cities in the United States have declared Eid as well on Thursday in order to be in unity with the hujjaaj (to mention a few: Alexandria, VA; Seattle, WA; Minneapolis, MN; Arlington, TX; San Diego, CA; majority of the Masajid in the States of North and South Carolina). Even here in Houston, major organizations besides ISGH have announced Eid on Thursday. Claiming that praying Eid on Thursday will break the unity, or cause fitnah, is irrelevant because the opposite can also be stated. An interesting point is that when Friday was initially announced to be the day for Eid-ul-Adhaa, no one stated that this was based on calculations or our local sighting, rather it was in following the hujjaaj! Those who changed their opinion after the second announcement from Saudi are indeed the ones who caused the confusion because they broke away from their principle that they asserted with the first announcement. I also would like to point out an observation regarding ISNA's position on this matter. Three years ago, this fitnah happened when ISNA declared Eid on a day other than the hujjaaj's Eid based on their claim that they follow the opinion of ikhtilaaf ulmataali (each region should have its own moon sighting). I was told that they subsequently reversed their opinion regarding Eid-ul-Adhaa because of the confusion that happened in the Muslim communities in America in that particular year. However, here it is happening once again. I think we should clarify the original opinion of the scholars who hold the position of ikhtilaaf ulmataali; that each region should have its own moon sighting. It is the more famous opinion in the Hanafee and Shaafi'ee madhaahib. However, the majority of the scholars oppose this opinion including some Hanafee and Shaafi'ee scholars. First of all, those who adopt this opinion did not say it is related to Eid-ul-Adhaa. Also, these scholars also mentioned that each main city, its suburbs and other nearby cities are considered one region with their own sighting. They gave an example of Al-Kufah and Al-Basrah. However, if the areas are far from each other, like Iraq, Al-Hijaaz and Ash-Shaam (Syria), then each should have its own moon sighting. Some even specified that a distance of 80 miles, or what is considered a traveling distance, required a new sighting for that area. How can ISNA then apply this opinion to the entire continent of North America, asserting that the Muslims all the way from Northern Canada, down to the Muslims in Hawaii, should share the same moon-sighting? Furthermore, ISNA has also adopted another madhhab, using astronomical calculations to reject sightings. These calculations were not approved by the scholars who held the ikhtilaaf ulmataali opinion. - Celebration Of Great Hajj: High Point Of Arafat 7th h of December was observed as Yamul Arafah ( the day of Arafah ), main day of Hajj ceremonies. About two million people attended Arafat to offer Zuhr and Asr prayer there and stay there the whole of afternoon, listen to the Khutbah of hajj. They will complete the Hajj rites on 10th of Zulhijjah or 8th December in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has mobilized a force of 100,000 men to protect an estimated two million Muslim pilgrims , amid fears of attack or deadly stampedes. The interior ministry said that in addition to many thousands of Saudis, an estimated 1.7 million of the faithful have descended on the kingdom from abroad to perform the annual rites. Local press reports spoke of a throng that could reach three million, and the official SPA news agency reported yesterday that everything was proceeding smoothly.The hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, which the Quran says all Muslims must carry out at least once in their lives, if they are able to do so.Dozens of first aid stations lined the route, SPA reported.Devotees are spending the day in prayer and contemplation in the valley, transformed into a city of fireproof tents. The Saudi health ministry said it has put in place some 24 field hospitals with 4,000 beds, in addition to nearly 140 health centers.. Hajj is a great institution, a world conference, a symbol of total devotion to God, recognition of oneness of God, blessings of Allah and His sovereignty ; human unity, equality and dignity We hope Hajj will be completed peacefully to the satisfaction of all concerned. .

Allah says: this sacrifice is prescribed for you so that you will remember Him at the time of slaughter, for He is the Creator and Provider. Nothing of its flesh or blood reaches Him, for He has no need of anything other than Himself. During the time of Jahiliyyah, when they offered sacrifices to their gods, they would put some of the meat of their sacrifices on their idols, and sprinkle the blood over them. But Allah says: ﴿لَن يَنَالَ اللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلاَ دِمَآؤُهَا﴾ It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn Jurayj said, The people of the Jahiliyyah used to put the meat of their sacrifices and sprinkle the blood on the House, and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah said, We have more right to do that.'' Then Allah revealed the words: ﴿لَن يَنَالَ اللَّهَ لُحُومُهَا وَلاَ دِمَآؤُهَا وَلَـكِن يَنَالُهُ التَّقْوَى مِنكُمْ﴾ It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is Taqwa from you that reaches Him. (Al-Hajj 22:37) That is what He will accept and reward for, as mentioned in the Hadith, «إِنَّ اللهَ لَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَى صُوَرِكُمْ وَلَا إِلَى أَلْوَانِكُمْ، وَلَكِنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَأَعْمَالِكُم» “Verily, Allah does not look to your faces and your colors but He looks to your hearts and to your deeds” (Muslim). Finally, we should remember that reward of our actions depend upon our intentions so we should purify our intentions for the sake of Allaah only. As in another hadith : “The reward for deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended” (Al-Bukhari). We ask Allah to bless us during these special days and to accept our good deeds. Rasulullah says about these days:They are days of eating and drinking and remembrance of Allah. Therefore one should enjoy the halal blessings of Allah during these days and increase their remembrance of Allah. Yes, the halal is to be enjoyed and we are rewarded for this enjoyment. This is a meaning that is sometimes forgotten. But after we enjoy these blessings we need to thank Allah for them. The slaughtering on eid of animals and feeding on what is a gift from Allah demands our gratitude. So we should remember Allah, praise Him and seek His forgiveness during these moments. We should also make dua for the Muslims who are struggling in Allah's cause, our brothers who are behind bars and the less fortunate who are struggling with poverty around the world.
