| Location: Meet at Dundas Square (Dundas and Yonge) Date: Wednesday, March 30 Time: 12:30pm On 30 March 1976, thousands of indigenous Palestinians occupied by Israel in 1948 participated in a mass strike and mass protests against systematic discrimination, and Israeli government plans to expropriate 5,500 acres of Arab- owned land in the Galilee. In the resulting confrontations with Israeli police, six Palestinians were killed, hundreds wounded, and one thousand jailed. In the intervening years, those events have become consecrated in the Palestinian memory as Land Day. The Jewish National Fund (JNF) is a Zionist organization established in 1901 to “redeem the land of Israel” i.e, to takeover the lands owned by the indigenous Palestinian population and to allocate it to the sole use of the Jewish people. The JNF took over most of the lands of the Palestinian refugees who fled their homes during the ethnic cleansing of 1948. JNF converted these lands to pine tree forests, national parks and nature reserves in order to prevent the return of the Palestinian refugees. JNF is registered as a charity in Canada, and thus Canadians contribute directly to its racist policies through the Canada Revenue Agency. |
