Just to say, any work done here that facilitates this project we should just
commit but with BC default off. I've just removed this issue as a blocker on
hbase2.

Moved it out to 2.0.0 -- our general bucket of 2.0.0 issues that we'll have to
sort through one of these days to figure 2.1 and 3.0.0 -- after discussion w/
[~ram_krish] and [~anoop.hbase]; we need more time than is available readying
this for hbase-2 (and it has to be right if we don't want to piss of our
users). Thanks lads.

{code}
-XX:MaxDirectMemorySize

This option specifies the maximum total size of java.nio (New I/O package)
direct buffer allocations.

Format

-XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=size[g|G|m|M|k|K]
Example

java -XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=2g myApp
Default Value

The default value is zero, which means the maximum direct memory is unbounded.
{code}
Seems to be unbounded. So should be fine then.

if specified HBASE_OFFHEAPSIZE, we specify that value as
-XX:MaxDirectMemorySize while starting Java process. If not, we dont specify
and the default for Java max direct memory size is unlimited AFAIK.

Yes. Xmx goes with JVM default. But offheap if we don't configure any still it
will work? It won't OOME due to lack of offheap space? So only asked.

No problem really.. Even the xmx part also under comments.. And pls note that
by def there is no upper bound for the off heap allocation for a java process.
We make a cap so as not to eat up too much off heap memory. So default it is
unlimited.

bq.# export HBASE_OFFHEAPSIZE=1G
Though the comment above this states that we need to configure some value
considering all the other offheap configs, still if some one starts the server
it will fail na because he may have the default heap and 40% of it will be
taken? I think we could atleast uncomment the 1G and allow that 1G offheap
size?(because default heap size is 1G?)
I know this is tricky and probably that is the reason other projects that have
offheap related features just document it and does not enable it by default.

[~anoop.hbase] it looks like there are potentially related test failures. Also
can you put this in RB?
