Pushed to branch-2.0+.

Thanks [~busbey]. Pasting your list into release notes. When you say 'published
on the website', it makes it sound like we have an automated process rather
than the manual hackery we currently do -- but I'll buy it.

Wondering now if we should publish dev and user doc and no test APIs.

HBASE-19663 makes it so user and dev api are currently the same thing when you
click 'User API' and 'Dev API'. Needs work.

i thought of a clearer way to say this. We make 4 javadoc reports:

* apidocs - user facing main api javadocs. currently for a release line,
published on website and linked from menu. included in the bin tarball as of
now and with this patch
* devapidocs - hbase internal javadocs. currently for a release line, published
on the website but not linked from the menu. included in the bin tarball now,
but not after this patch.
* testapidocs - user facing test scope api javadocs. currently for a release
line, not published. included in the bin tarball now and with this patch.
* testdevapidocs - hbase internal test scope javadocs. currently for a release
line, not published. included in the bin tarball now but not after this patch.

does that make sense for the state of play?

300 MiB isn't that much in the scheme of things. I'll go push an addendum.

dev api is there. the 1.2 / 1.1 release specific docs published apidocs and
devapidocs but only link to the user facing apidocs from the website menu. So
I did the same for 2.0. That means the link to the devapidocs works fine even
though it's not in the landing page menu. But the testdevapidoc don't.

Removing dev api from hbase.apache.org menu?

Or, just not building dev api?

Either are good by me including pushing the dev api... I'm easy. Might be ok
having devapi up on website...

shoot. the {{testdevapidocs}} link doesn't work because in HBASE-20365 I left
out the {{test*docs}}.

What do you think about just leaving it out? I could push an addendum that
includes {{test*docs}} now (~300MiB more on top of the ~500MiB already in the
v2 docs) , or we could wait until someone asks about it.

(for reference of observers, right now v002 is linking to the devapi docs for
3.0.0-SNAPSHOT which seems wrong)

and how about the rest of the javadoc reports?

we've historically done docs per minor release (ish). how about we put up the
apidocs from beta-2 now as a start for branch-2.0 docs and then have this link
to the branch-2.0 docs? that way it'll be a link to beta-2 for now and then to
2.0 GA after we get a release?

We've always shipped site/doc. We can open new issue to entertain site/doc as
separate artifact?

.002 changes site.xml so references to devapi are back to the hbase site so you
get something -- a dev api probably from a different version for now till we do
publishing doc/api/site per hbase version.

excluding the entirety of site from the bin.tgz is easy technically. I don't
know about user expectations. If we provide a tarball with just the site output
it'd be easy enough for folks who wanted them to get the old experience.

.001 is a suggestion. I was in here playing because I'm practicing building the
2.0.0 release. The attached patch filters out the devapi javadoc. Seems fine
except for the bit where you are navigating documentation inside in an undone
bin. The site 'Documentation and API' menu item has 'Developer API' in it and
when you select it, there is nothing under it anymore. Would be good to put in
a 'not bundled' note or point at version appropriate api up on site.

I think the change needs to be done to the assembly descriptor we use to build
our binary tarball ({{hbase-assembly/src/main/assembly/components.xml}}). The
section on the site docs needs to have an exclusion node added to keep out the
4 javadoc reports.
