[~tlipcon], yeah, thanks, I was able to reproduce it by setting the following
properties:
{code:java}
Create Tables as ACID Insert Only = false
Create Tables as Full ACI = false
metastore.strict.managed.tables = false;{code}
However it looks this has been already fixed as part of HIVE-20343 (see
[SemanticAnalyzer.java|https://github.com/apache/hive/commit/4ba12f2f47fb3318a139dc64efd7c0eabfca7a4c#diff-f2040374293a91cbcc6594ee571b20e4R13005]).
This patch only exists on the master branch.
[~ashutoshc], Do you think we should be backport this back to the 3.x line?
