[~Pavlukhin],
I fixed some moments after TC results:
* added ConfigVariationsExecutionTest to testSuite [1]
* ignored cache test in MVCC [2]
* make dummyCfg non-static: science testCfg already is not static, now static
dummyCfg is not necessary [3].

TC Bot gives me 2 blockers: code style and .Net Inspections, but both of them
have a lot of recent failures (76 and 37 % respectively) [4].

[~Pavlukhin], Injection through constructor looks better, it is obviously.
Situation on TC remains the same.

Please check the last commit [1].

Now I will ignore failed tests and rise discussion on dev-list about them.

Do you have any other suggestions according to this PR?

[~ivanan.fed], also I went through [TC
results|https://ci.ignite.apache.org/viewLog.html?buildId=3969334=IgniteTests24Java8_RunAllNightly]
 and it seems that an amount of failing test _methods_ is quite limited
(roughly I counted 12). I believe that we can look into and ignore them
properly. Also it might be a good idea to ask Community help to check those
tests as well.

[~ivanan.fed], approach without _static_ variable looks simpler for me as well.
Now we assign a configuration in Ignite _before_ callbacks in order to be sure
that the configuration is accessible during each stages of a test execution.
But can we inject a configuration in a generated test class constructor (for
the same purposes)? In my mind it will make things even more simpler because it
requires injection only in one place and guarantees that an injected
configuration is accessible on any stage of test execution (regardless what
callbacks are used, Ignite of junit). What do you think?

[~Pavlukhin], I removed the garbage injection and left only one non-static cfg
variable.
Moreover, I assigned configuration directly before each test (and
beforeTestsStarted method) with reflection instead of injectTestsConfiguration
method invocation [1].
I think now it looks better and without unnecessary actions.
Also, I removed double stopAllGrids (I don't know why it's necessary to invoke
it twice - because of this Cache tests were broken) [2].
I checked RunAllNightly and new failures seem for me from the first view not
because of test workflow, but because of real reasons.
Could you take a look at such solution, please?

[~ivanan.fed] I see a problem in
{{IgniteCacheConfigVariationsAbstractTest#beforeTestsStarted}} by design it
prestarts a cluster. And to do it properly it requires _testsCfg_ (instance
variable) to be already initialized. And it seems that with a previous rules
stacking approach it worked. I do not have good ideas in my mind so far. Will
think about it. Currently a couple of raw ideas:
* Consider using static variable instead _testsCfg_.
* Do not initialize _testsCfg_ with a default value to avoid skipping a real
config which is expected to be injected.

[~Pavlukhin] , I run TC with the latest changes, it seems not good now [1]. The
problem is in NPE in

IgniteCacheConfigVariationsAbstractTest#beforeTest [2]. With default
VariationsTestsConfig all works fine, it is clear from the previous TC results.
But when we use injected config, default ignite instance does not create -
ignite() method returns null [3].

I think that the problem is in makeTestClass method when configs are injected.
For some reason, configs are not correct or are not correct injected. But this
reason is unclear for me now.

{quote}
We can do it if it is simple. But I would not invest into that much if it is
not trivial.

Regarding multiple failures I think that it worth writing a message to dev-list
in order to make people aware of the subject. During discussion in community we
can develop a proper way to enable those tests safely.

[~Pavlukhin], I added test for check {{IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest}}
execution according to your suggestions. May be add similar check that
before/after JUnit methods also work, what do you think?

According to fix {{IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest}} rules workflow. I
decided to simplify code and remove outer rule and ruleChain from
{{IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest}} [1]. We can implement the same idea if
we just put {{testCfg}} initilization in {{beforeTestsStarted}}. Now all tests
work - you can try to start
{{InterceptorCacheConfigVariationsFullApiTestSuite}} [2] and see that methods
work indeed (it takes time unlike the master branch).

But now TeamCity bot shows us a lot of failures [3]. I tried to figure out and
it seems that failures are related to what tests check, but not JUnit error. I
mean that in master tests are green just because nothing happens, but indeed
tests can fail. I can not figure out in each tests quickly, but in nutshell,
according to logs the failures are caused errors in tests functionality.
Moreover, 300 failures on 15_000 tests are just 2%, so it could be true.

[~ivanan.fed], yes it seems that it is hard to be sure that all tests methods
were executed. For example, in junit 4 is simple to skip all test methods but
having all them as passed in report with a _rule_ that does not _evaluate base
statement_. Perhaps, we can find some ideas in the Internet. I think we can
tackle with writing a special test extending
_IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest_ checking in _after class_ callback that a
test method (or couple of methods and perhaps other before/after callbacks)
were executed. Schematically, it is:
{code}
public class VariationExecutionTest extends IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest {
  private boolean testExecuted = false;

  @AfterClass
  public void validate() {
assertTrue(testExecuted);
  }

  @Test
  public void test() {
testExecuted = true;
  }
}
{code}

Also I have a comment about _rules_ execution order. It seems that when we have
a {{RuleChain}} annotated with a {{@Rule}} annotaiton which includes another
rule (let's is is _ruleA_) annotated with {{@Rule}} then _ruleA_ will be
executed twice. And it does not look desired. First we should look for common
best practice how to solve it.

Also it is still unclear and quite interesting why all _variation_ test methods
are skipped. Please write back once you find a clue.

[~Pavlukhin], thank you for the items, I agree with all of them (I am not sure
how to implement the third point, may be insert a counter, increment it in test
bodies and check counter's value after all tests, in nutshell).

I think that the problem is not that {{base.evaluate}} in {{rulePrivate}} does
not call inside (I tried to debug it with system.out and it works). Meanwhile,
the following rule
{noformat}
@Rule public transient TestRule runRule = (base, desc) -> new Statement() {
@Override public void evaluate() throws Throwable {
assert getName() != null : "getName returned null";

runTest(base);
}
};
{noformat}
from GridAbstractTest indeed does not call {{base.evaluate}} by some reason.

[~ivanan.fed], the problem seems to be a mistake in
{code}
private final TestRule rulePrivate = (base, description) -> new Statement() {
@Override public void evaluate() {
assert getName() != null : "getName returned null";

testsCfg = testsCfgInjected;
}
};
{code}

It simply does not call {{base.evaluate}} inside.

But also I suggest to address following items as well:
# Fix rules execution order for {{IgniteConfigVariationsAbstractTest}}.
# Unignore ignored tests.
# Add code making sure that _variation_ tests are really executed but not
skipped.
# Pay attention to other _variation_ tests. I saw that {{LegacyLifecycleTest}}
used {{@BeforeClass}} annotation but an annotated methods was not executed.
