module name at 
https://github.com/apache/maven-integration-testing/blob/9e98d89a8ad1a00fd17b176216e5c65a35bca8f8/core-it-support/core-it-plugins/pom.xml#L86
 is wrong, it should be "mng6759-resolves-project-dependencies-plugin", not 
"mng-6759-resolves-project-dependencies-plugin".

Could you apply the fix, or should I open a new PR?

[~rfscholte] I looked at the relocation issue a bit more. Making a test case 
where there is a legacy-dependency-in-custom-repo with a relocation to 
dependency-in-custom-repo does not trigger the issue. The affected code in 
MavenMetadataSource is only hit when the artifact being resolved is part of the 
reactor. I think in order to trigger the issue, both 
legacy-dependency-in-custom-repo and dependency-in-custom-repo would have to be 
part of the reactor, with some third module in the reactor depending on 
legacy-dependency-in-custom-repo. 

I'm not sure that's a constellation that's going to occur in real life, and if 
it does there's an easy workaround (update the dependency on legacy-dependency 
to dependency). Would you still like me to make a test for this, or do you 
think it's unimportant?

At the conference I met Karl [~khmarbaise] and we said that Maven did not 
behave according the spec. The users rely on a behavior as usually whether it 
is right or wrong behavior. We said that the resolver might be buggy but it is 
hard to fix it since the resolver is complex project. One of the hypothesis we 
had in our mind was that the repository written in the POM of B dependency 
should stay only within the resolver of B and should not be transitively 
inherited into A (if A depends on B).

I see what you mean. Relocations aren't used that much, but let's cover that 
case as well. I would expect that with a {{legacy-dependency-in-custom-repo}} 
that has a relocation to {{dependency-in-custom-repo}} you should already have 
your testcase. I'd suggest to add a second testmethod to 
{{MavenITmng6759TransitiveDependencyRepositoriesTest}}, but it must install 2 
artifacts (just to have the wording correct: you cannot install/deploy 
dependencies, you can only install artifacts, see also 
https://maven.apache.org/shared/maven-artifact-transfer/comparison.html)

There's potentially a related bug as the fast path also doesn't set the 
relocatedArtifact variable 
https://github.com/apache/maven/blob/db3e44694c631554aa9f4079b40b1c6f1e1f2f0d/maven-core/src/main/java/org/apache/maven/project/artifact/MavenMetadataSource.java#L220,
 which is also part of the return value of that method. I'm not sure what the 
impact is, or how to test it.

I can confirm the regression. I'm trying to understand the change of [~oehme] 
and the need for your change and I think I do. (it would enter the 
else-statement, retrieve the relocatedProject. This one is not null, nor is 
rel.project, so the pomProperties are set).  I'm kind of confused by the 
relocation code, but this seems to be how it always worked.
