I see. Let us close for now.
We may need some strategy to choose better java bytecode compiler at runtime.

Why don't we close the ticket? I heard we would get mixed performance, and it
doesn't seem like worth it to add 500 lines of code for something that has
unclear value.

[~maropu] yes, I remembered I had some troubles compiling the generated code
with the jdk compiler too. There is also one case (which I saw in the branch
you prepared you addressed generating the proper code according to the chosen
compiler) in which there isn't really a way to make both them happy. In other
cases, when there is a form which works fine on both, I think it would be great
to use it. So I agree with your proposal.

My only concern is that as of now we have no way to check the compilation with
JDK, so it would be probably hard to enforce that we correct all the problems
and/or we don't introduce new ones. So the risk is that the effort spent on
that task could be not so useful...

I found some weird gen'd code that jdk java compilers can't compile, e.g.,
 - gen'd code includes checked exceptions that are not caught inside
https://github.com/apache/spark/compare/master...maropu:JdkCompiler#diff-8f85177fc023b09d1b6561e4c398275eR21
- cast errors
https://github.com/apache/spark/compare/master...maropu:JdkCompiler#diff-258b71121d8d168e4d53cb5b6dc53ffeR893
- illegal import formats
https://github.com/apache/spark/compare/master...maropu:JdkCompiler#diff-53c8a01004edfc2aabfe81570af05bb0R191
- illegal final qualifiers
https://github.com/apache/spark/compare/master...maropu:JdkCompiler#diff-9853dcf5ce3d2ac1e94d473197ff5768L2669
- illegal generic arrays
https://github.com/apache/spark/compare/master...maropu:JdkCompiler#diff-ead8a43fb83df762b597637f413a40a5R322
...

Whether this ticket resolved or not, I think we'd be better to brush up gen'd
codes so that both jdk java compilers and janino could compile them. If no
problem, how about filing a separate jira for that and fixing them first? cc:

The results of my investigation (sf=1 performance values, compile time, max
method codegen size, and max class codegen size in TPCDS) are here:

Their performance values are not so different between each other and Jdk
compile time is much larger than Janino time in q28-q72.

It seems the max method codegen size in Jdk is a little smaller than that in
Janino though, the class size in Jdk is larger than that in Janino.

quickly made prototype by myself for benchmarks in advance:

checked most queries in TPCDS could be compiled). I'll put TPCDS benchmark
