Quanlong Huang created IMPALA-9143:
--------------------------------------

             Summary: Impala-shell on Mac can't save command history
                 Key: IMPALA-9143
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMPALA-9143
             Project: IMPALA
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Quanlong Huang

I installed impala-shell on my MacOS but found that command history is not
saved or loaded. There's an error of "Unable to load command history (disabling
history collection): [Errno 1] Operation not permitted" when launching
impala-shell.

{code}
$ impala-shell -i coordinator_xxx
Starting Impala Shell without Kerberos authentication
Opened TCP connection to coordinator_xxx:21000
Connected to coordinator_xxx:21000
Server version: impalad version 3.4.0-SNAPSHOT RELEASE (build

Unable to load command history (disabling history collection): [Errno 1]
Operation not permitted

Welcome to the Impala shell.
(Impala Shell v3.4.0-SNAPSHOT (b0c6740) built on Thu Oct 17 10:56:02 PDT 2019)

Run the PROFILE command after a query has finished to see a comprehensive
summary
of all the performance and diagnostic information that Impala gathered for that
query. Be warned, it can be very long!

It's wired that I have enough permissions on ~/.impalahistory. Even after
setting its permission to 777, the error still exists. So may be other
permission issue.

Some environment info:
MacOS Mojave, version: 10.14.5
Python 2.7.10
Pip 19.3.1
virtualenv 16.7.7
Install impala-shell via pip in a virtual env.
