Did you try to ship {{Either}} values as member variables of the user function? 
User function objects are serialized on the client with Java serialization to 
ship them to the worker nodes. Therefore, all members must be {{Serializable}}. 
Maybe you can declare these fields as {{transient}} and initialize them in the 
{{open()}} method.
