@Cathy Laporte use layers to set shapes as background. If you don't know about
this concept, go to our forum or end-user mail list.

Bradley Roderick don't give some news since a long time ago, so this issue is
set as irreproducible.

I will add that the issue seems in some strange way tied to the size of box #3.
If I make it short enough (height-wise), the problem magically disappears!

Created attachment 85961

.odg file with problem reproduced

I am currently experiencing the very same issue as described in 2014. Attached
is an .odg file. Any attempt to add an image using "Insert Picture from File"
fills Box #3 with a bitmap texture made of that image. I am using Mac OS X
10.11.6 and Open Office 4.1.3 (I just updated from 4.1.2, hoping the issue
might have vanished - it occurs with 4.1.2 as well).

@Bradley: Checked with the same steps as Arierl in comment 5, same result using
AOO410m15(Build:9761) - Rev. 1583567. If this still happens on your side,
coulld you please check your exact version?
Please select OpenOffice/About_OpenOffice from the menu, copy/paste the line
beginning with 'AOO410...' here. It's the only line selectable there (to allow
copy/paste)...

I cannot reproduce on MacOSX 10.8 with these steps:

- New Draw document
- Insert a rectangle
- Insert an ellipse
- Make sure nothing is selected
- Menu Insert - Picture - From File..., select a picture and press the Open
button

Result: the image is inserted as expected.

Are you following a different procedure?

Right, the problem is that even when nothing is selected it still picks the
last shape created and does a drag and drop for that.

Yes, you have to make sure that nothing is selected.
The first control in the statusbar tells you what object is selected (with a
text "Shape selected", "Rectangle selected", etc.), just click with the mouse
in any area of the document without elements, and nothing will be selected.

I see. The issue, then, is that it will automatically do a drag and drop to the
last shape that was created, even if it is not selected. I have no way (at
least that I've tried) of simply inserting a new picture without it replacing
something.
