Convert your Fontwork object into curve
Then ungroup to change color for each letter

@Peter: Not able to select individual rendered *Fontwork* characters and colour
them.
e.g. Suppose a Fontwork object with the text "Fontwork" is dragged into the
form has a colour of blue, I have a hard time making the "t" red and "w"
yellow, for example.

I do not understand what you mean.
Can you explain please?

I can do the following:
1)Open up a new draw document.
2)Write a text somewhere.
3)color each letter in a different color.

Is this what you mean?
