I agree that this is not the most elegant solution, but it is the best we could come up with to allow us to be backwards compatible given the breaking changes made with the 2.0 API. Hopefully this is just temporary and we can avoid this in future major API version changes. I don't believe that this is a pattern that we want to or should adopt unless absolutely necessary. As for the decision to not be tightly coupled and not have a deployment order, I don't think any discussion is required; this is a founding tenant of our project. It's not about tenure on the project and how decisions are made, it is a core tenant that frankly we could be better at following.
