your problem doesn't have anything to do with the delimiter. maildir
subfolders always start with a period.

PathDelimiter behavior. In my eyes it is a bug but the documentation is not
precise about this topic so I ask you:
remote side contains mail folders: INBOX (incomming) and INBOX.*
I expected to get on local side: ~/Maild
