(EE) ivtvHWProvbe failed to do IVTVFB_IOCTL_GET_STATE for device (null)

running "modprobe saa7127 test_image=1" works just fine. I also see this error in dmesg, near the bottom:
ivtv: Tried to open YUV output device but need to send data to mpeg decoder before it can be used
ivtv-osd warning: ERROR: Direct writing is not safe for ivtv usage
