The Deitels' Java How to Program and Linux

I have purchased the Deitels' Java, How to Program, text since I like their C++ book. The Java text says that all the examples run under J2SDK, but that does not seem to be available for Linux. Does anyone have any suggestion as to what I should use for a substitute? Thanks. -- Peter D. Jung
