I just grabbed and tested each of the Blackdown and Sun versions of
j2sdk 1.4.1 for linux/i586. Neither work for me.
When I try running the demos, I get empty windows with blue
backgrounds. Except for the Applet menu in appletviewer nothing is
displayed in menus.
I get errors like this whenever
p nice(2)d: one to 5 and the other to 9. (Either
the JDK or the threads library are doing the nice(2)ing; my native-
thread java apps are the only thing that ever get's auto-nice(2)ed on
this box.)

as the X server, have all the fonts in the fontserver's font path, and
- -- this might be it -- do not have CLASSPATH set.
Try adding an `unset CLASSPATH' to your netscape wrapper script.
Might help.
Or not.
But it is worth (IMO) a test.
