One thing you might take into consideration, vcafe for java supposedly
has one of the fastest JITs available. That might not be fair to c
erly. The point wasn't that they
were getting it out sooner, but that they were publishing what was
termed a "almost" ready version--which should not be distributable
according to the license--the very reason we don't have access to the
Linux JDK1.2 port yet.
Unless of cou
s is written in Java servlets. The move was a
total breeze (tar--ftp--untar). One of our clients had some C++ CGI
programs. It was a week or two before all the problems were ironed out.
Still trying to recompile some of them.

this on-topic... Does anyone know of any special
considerations about getting Java, Apache, and Apache-JServ
running on LinuxPPC?

where it is distributed to a limited audience before being released. The
reason being that because it is "not done yet" any benchmarks would not
necessarily reflect the finished product.
1.2 has been released, though, so... I'm not sure. Maybe they forgot to
take it out.

Related question. Does anyone know how or if there is a way to use the
Java 3D kit on Linux? I tried to download it but realized it was an
executable and therefore not runnable on linux.
