Run:
xprop -root -remove _MOTIF_DEFAULT_BINDINGS
at the prompt and it should take care of the warnings.

I finally got it fixed today.

p.s. I'm still dying to use a JIT with Linux PPC.
Place the attached file - symbol.ttf - in your /jre/lib/fonts
directory. This should fix the problem.
