I don't see the need for a direct www connection. We've got a GUI application running under JDK 1.2. The applet version runs well on an intranet with Netscape 4 or higher with the Java 1.2 plug-in for Windows (our applet makes IE 4/5 crash though). It's only that the HTML page with that EMBED tag
