Problem with html text spacing in JEditorPane in Blackdown-1.3.0-FCS

Using Blackdown-1.3.0-FCS, html text is badly spaced JEditorPane; large gaps often appear between letters in a word. This problem does not occur using J2RE 1.3.0 IBM build cx130-2815. Is there any (easy) way to fix this other than switching jvms? I prefer to use the Blackdown jvm. Thank
