Thanks Casper, that looks perfect!

I should have probably explained - the whole rest of the system is
platform neutral (all written in Java). Having to incl
We have used "Wrapper" (http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org) at times to

any newer best practice out there?

Which is one good reason not to use Java. You could use the super
simple GraphViz, it needs your input dataset transformed as text file
and will output an image (or postscript). While typically a nightmare
to inter-operate with native stuff from Java, this one is simple to
call through Runtime.get

I find upgrading mostly works, although I would not start mixing
alpha's and beta's. Also, 64bit stuff seems to be a bit more brittle
than 32bit stuff. The new software center is pretty cool, will be nice

adding PPA's, you do not ne
You might try Neo4j -- it's a graph database capable of representing
hierarchical data. It can generate an SVG of the data in the graph. You
can find out more about it here: http://neo4j.org. There's also a Grails
plugin for it, so if you want to generate a quick web app for an HR site,
you can
There might be higher level things you could use, but a good general
purpose graphics library is the NetBeans one:

I started with alpha 6 at home, with the beta at work (both Kubuntu).
Two issues I had:

Does anyone know of a good library for creating graphical org charts
from arbitrary hierarchical data?
As usual, half the battle with doing anything in Java is choosing the
right library...

WOW! That's sounds great...
Multi-screen mess was my main issue for not using it on my laptop...

Been running the RC for about a week (got a new SSD, could not wait
for the final). Updated all packages today which gave me a final
release. I would recommend a clean install over upgrade from Jaunty
due to the new GRUB2 boot-loader and also the new default feature of
running separate X sessions
ive been running it since alpha 6 or so. It boots a lot faster and
everything worked quite well (except ocasionally i was getting 404 for
the package updates, which is expected for an alpha version)

Did somebody in here already did the upgrade to (k)ubuntu 9.10 ?
I thought it better to ask before asking my machine to commit suicide. :-)

Well, the "ultimate" version is the true polyglot IDE. So I guess this could
