[JAWS-Users] Re: RAM Update

2007-01-30 Thread Victor Gouveia

Well Dale, to be honest, it has been a while since I've had to deal with
DSL, so things may have changed since then.

The last time I had DSL,
I watched as the gentleman came and installed the sound card and configured
everything to connect. This was a business account, so things may be
different for a residential account.

As the computer was connecting to the network, I saw the screens with my own
eyes, as I had them back then, smile. The screen clearly indicated it was
dialing a number, and I even saw the number it was dialing.

I also saw the guy pray that the computer was going to connect after all was
said and done.

Needless to say, his praying worked and it did connect.

In any case, I am relating experience here, not opinion, so I can vouch for
what I'm saying, for what that's worth.

I'm working on adding Ray's post regarding GMail Drive from the other day
along with the program itself which took quite a while to track down this
morning. Then with luck I'm hoping to do a tutorial on a mail client
 called
pop corn. Personally I would rather call it doughnuts but I digress.
 It's
a neat little application that's completely portable and you can use it to
check your email from any internet connected computer at all. Now first
it's time to fight with gold wave a bit, so keep checking for these and
 further updates.

[JAWS-Users] internet security

2007-01-30 Thread David Ferrin

This has just come up on the blind computing list and I feel it is important
enough to post on here as well. I can do research in my own small way of
course, I'm not an expert in this area.
David Ferrin

Understanding security zones
Internet Explorer assigns all websites to one of four security zones:
Internet, Local intranet, Trusted sites, or Restricted sites. The zone to
which a
website is assigned specifies the security settings that are used for that
site. You can choose which websites to assign to the Intranet, Trusted, or
Restricted
zones. By adding a website to a specific zone, you can control the level of
security used on that site. For example, if you have a list of websites that
you visit and you completely trust those sites, add those sites to the
Trusted zone.
To add a website to a security zone
list of 7 items
1. In Internet Explorer, navigate to the website that you want to add to a
specific security zone.
2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab, and then click a security zone (
Local intranet, Trusted sites, or
Restricted sites).
4. Click Sites.
5. If you clicked Local intranet in step 3, click Advanced.
6. The website should be shown in the
Add this website to the zone field. Click Add.
If the site is not a secure site (HTTPS), clear the
Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
7. Click Close, and then click OK.
list end
To remove a website from a security zone
list of 7 items
1. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click a security zone (
Local intranet, Trusted sites, or
Restricted sites).
3. Click Sites.
4. If you clicked Local intranet in step two, click Advanced.
5. In Websites, click the website that you want to remove.
6. Click Remove.
7. Click Close, and then click OK.
list end

[JAWS-Users] Registration Question

2007-01-30 Thread Mark Finnigan

Dear all,

I switched on my PC this evening after getting back from work, and was asked
to activate my copies of JAWS and MAGic. I have had this software on my
computer for months and activated it as soon as I got it.

The only change in my computer's hardware was an extra serial ata hard drive
I had put in six days ago. I know that any change in a computer's hardware
profile will change the PC's locking code (if this is the correct term), but
surely I should have been asked to reactivate as soon as I put the new hard
drive in my machine.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I going to run out of activations at
this rate?

Thanks for any help.

Area Network LAN settings. Check Automatically detect network settings and
uncheck Use automatic configuration script. Uncheck Use a proxy server for
your LAN. Then click OK.

Try that first and see. Let us know how that goes.

You should have been given a paper with a little information by your ISP
describing some of the other settings if necessary, things like the gateway
and so on. These are probably correct or you wouldn't be connecting at all.

Now before we unstick David altogether we should probably continue this
privately off list.

I cannot guarantee I can get things correct for you but probably. Every time
I have to set one of these things up I seem to have to figure it out all
over again.

Start there though and we will see how it goes.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] LAN settings?

I assume that this question is JAWS related since one must use JAWS to
 negotiate the proper settings.
I have JAWS 6.0 and XP home and DSL.
In I.E,what should the LAN settings be set at.
There were dialogues for automatic settings I think this was in the
 securities/connections area of IE.

In the past, I would fool around with trying to figure out different
aspects of the computer and would invariably screw up something.
My wife would lecture me on not changing something I didn't understand.
My philosophy is to try it on my own first, then, if I didn't succeed,
 then
 seek advice.

Anyway, I am seeking expert advice.
I was playing around with this particular item around the time I started
 having connections problems.
I don't remember if I was looking at these LAN setting before or after
 my
 computer problem occurred.

 Thank you.

 Rich

[JAWS-Users] Jaws and macros

2007-01-30 Thread jason smith
Hi everyone,
as part of my course, I need to access some files on a website. I was told,
that I need to have macros enabled in order to view these documents properly.
My question is, would Jaws have any issues with macros? I have done a bit of
research on Google, as I didn't know what macros were. From what I have read,
there can also be security or virus issues with macros. I need to access these
documents. Firstly, how do I enable macros and how do I configure them(or
Jaws), so as to lesson any problems with them? I am using XP home and Jaws 7.0.
I do have Jaws 8.0, but have been waiting to see what issues others had before
installing it.
All opinions are welcomed.
Thanks Jason
