Have you tried pressing enter when focusing on the edit field to
activate forms mode? You can't type anything unless you activate forms

[JAWS-Users] Re: on mouse over

2007-04-18 Thread Christopher Hallsworth

John, I can definitely replicate your problem using IE7 and JAWS 8 demo.
However, it is not necessarily a JAWS issue, as maybe the sponsored
links were programmed such that two onmouseover events may be used and
therefore JAWS is seeing that. If you can, try it with another screen
reader or another web browser to see if it is a programming issue or
indeed a JAWS issue. Hope that helps, and thanks for allowing me to help
you out.

[JAWS-Users] Roxio Help

2007-04-18 Thread Victor Gouveia
Hi folks,

I am using Jaws 7 with Xp Pro and Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.

Every time I start the program, it lands me in the tree view, but it doesn't
tell me what the tree view items are. All it reports is that it's closed.

If I arrow up and down, Jaws says closed, closed and closed.

Does anyone know of what I can do to make CD creator 5 more accessible?

I have the scripts installed and have compiled both the application script file
and the default file, but still no joy.

I used to be able to flow through the tree view easily and know exactly where I
was at all times, but like I said, no joy anymore.

Any help would be appreciated.

In that case it could be your friend's machine as I definitely cannot
duplicate the problem. However, I will remove the shortcuts that begin
with a and see if I can duplicate it then, but if I can't then I can
only conclude that it's the way your friend's machine and JAWS behave.

Greetings folks, I found the below info on the FS web site at:
http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/jaws.asp#skip

Note: JAWS 8.0 or later does not support Windows 98 or ME. If your computer

[JAWS-Users] impressions on thunderbird portable so far

2007-04-18 Thread David A Ferrin

Well I have got to tell you folks that if you're looking for something
simple and really basic to use for retrieving your email on the go then I'm
not sure it is for you. On the other hand if you really need a powerful
portable program that is completely stocked with any and or all of the bells
and whistles that you're accustomed to on your home system then by all means
give it a shot. It seems to have everything and even more then outlook
express built in to a small package. It's going to take a while to setup but
the program will import virtually everything you already have in either
outlook, Eudora, and outlook express for starters. It's a lot of car to
drive, but since I like a reasonable challenge I'm going to work on it some
more myself. In fact it seems to be enough of a program that it could
completely become your main email client. I can tell you it does have the
capability to assume the roll of your primary email program just so you
know.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Roxio Help

2007-04-18 Thread Victor Gouveia

Hi David,

Thanks for your suggestion, however, Jaws doesn't read Local Disk C
closed, as is the case with most tree views.

As I said in my message, when I go through the tree view, all I get is the
word closed. Once I press the right arrow to open the particular folder,
all it says is open and nothing else.

I can't navigate as I don't know where I'm going. You'd think I was
blind...LOL.

Anyway, like I said, I can't imagine why this is doing this.

I can tell you it does have the
capability to assume the roll of your primary email program just so you
know.

Have you tried pressing ctrl tab to move between the different pages while
in Jaws help? If not, then try it and see if that solves your problem. The
page you should be on if you want to view the different books and topics in

 Hi David,

Thanks for your suggestion, however, Jaws doesn't read Local Disk C
closed, as is the case with most tree views.

As I said in my message, when I go through the tree view, all I get is
 the
word closed. Once I press the right arrow to open the particular folder,
all it says is open and nothing else.

 I can't navigate as I don't know where I'm going. You'd think I was
 blind...LOL.

Anyway, like I said, I can't imagine why this is doing this.

 Victor

Note: JAWS 8.0 or later does not support Windows 98 or ME. If your computer

[JAWS-Users] updates to the web site

2007-04-18 Thread David A Ferrin

I've just added a couple of programs under the internet heading, and I've
also added the thunderbird portable email client up there as well. Like I
said folks, it's a lot of car to drive, but the program seems to have it all
and more. I might do an audio tutorial on it in the near future after and
assuming I become more proficient with the program myself. I figure before I
can do such a thing it requires more than just a passing understanding of
the program.

[JAWS-Users] Re: XP Start menu;

2007-04-18 Thread David A Ferrin

Why in the world would I mind you or anybody at all offering suggestions?
Never give it another thought my friend. I created this list so I could
learn new things myself along with sharing what ever information that I
already accumulated over the years. I've picked up many a tip over time from
beginners and more advanced people than myself. The fact is you never know
where or from who your next bit of information may come from. This programs
sub menu off of the start menu I've always considered a little quirk and
have never given it much thought is all. It's got something to do with
having quite a number of items on my to do list that take priority. Of
course if somebody comes up with the answer then I sure will take note of it
and possibly post same on the web.

[JAWS-Users] Re: on mouse over

2007-04-18 Thread Roger Bachelder

Hi Christopher.
I did what you said, I unloaded 8.0 and loaded 7.0, and jaws only said, On
mouse over once with 7.0. So that did confirm that this is a problem with
8.0.

Thank you for the help.

If you would look just below skype 2.5 you will find 3.1 what ever the

[JAWS-Users] JFW8 Update

2007-04-18 Thread Kerryann Ifill
Back in February, when the public beta for JFW came out, I downloaded and
installed and immediately started having some issues. One such was a
message which came up whenever I did a JFW say all in microsoft outlook
telling me about a conflict with magic running. I don't even own a copy of
magic.
I reset the machine to the orinigla jfw8 and then a strange started to
happen. When using the realspeak voices, jfw would not switch voices for
the jaws cursor.
I lived with it for a while and only yesterday when I contacted FS about the
problem, they advised that I should again upgrade to the newest release
which came out in April.

I've now got the same problem when reading email and though I tried to
follow the instructions followed last time, they're not working.
FS told me to delete the default.jsb and default.jss files, but I can't seem
to locate the second. does anyone have any suggestions?

[JAWS-Users] Re: JFW8 Update

2007-04-18 Thread David A Ferrin

Kerry, look in the explore my settings sub menu of your particular version
of jaws. Once in there obviously keep hitting the letter D until you land on
the default files. In other words they wish you to delete files that you
have modified yourself thus restoring their original default configuration
settings. Unfortunately this means any changes in there will need to be
reapplied.

[JAWS-Users] Re: XP Start menu;

2007-04-18 Thread Mike Wagoner

Is this a home computer or one on a network? Some things can be locked
through administrative tools which means they aren't accessible. Just
wondering

In that case it could be your friend's machine as I definitely cannot
duplicate the problem. However, I will remove the shortcuts that begin
with a and see if I can duplicate it then, but if I can't then I can
only conclude that it's the way your friend's machine and JAWS behave.

Dave, I can't replicate the problem here on my Windows XP Home
  laptop.
What version of JAWS is your friend using? I'm using a demo copy of
  JAWS
8 and as I said I cannot duplicate this. However, I do have some
  other
programmes beginning with a, so this may be why I can't duplicate
  it.
  Sorry about that.

Greetings folks, I found the below info on the FS web site at:
 http://www.freedomscientific.com/fs_downloads/jaws.asp#skip

Note: JAWS 8.0 or later does not support Windows 98 or ME. If your
 computer
runs either operating system, you should use JAWS version 7.X or
 earlier
 instead.

I believe you are referring to IE 7.0, not windows XP. XP support goes
 all
the way back to 4.51 actually. IE 7 support just started in 7.1.

[JAWS-Users] Re: a wierd jaws issue

You may want to try a modify setup on jaws to have it use the other sound card
from startup I'm not sure about that since I haven't tried it yet, just a
thought.

Ok. I edited the jfw.ini file to reflect what sound card I want jaws to start
from and it worked, but now when I start my machine jaws starts fromthe wrong
sound card and I have to restart jaws to reflect the right sound card in
jfw.ini. Iuse jaws 7. I heard there are some fixes for this but I don't know
what they are. Thanks.

Kerry, look in the explore my settings sub menu of your particular version
of jaws. Once in there obviously keep hitting the letter D until you land on
the default files. In other words they wish you to delete files that you
have modified yourself thus restoring their original default configuration
settings. Unfortunately this means any changes in there will need to be
reapplied.

I lived with it for a while and only yesterday when I contacted FS about the

[JAWS-Users] Re: JFW8 Update

2007-04-18 Thread David A Ferrin

Those are the correct places to look all right, besides the JSB file is the
only one that jaws is interested in. It's the binary compilation of the
original source code converted in to machine language. It looks like more
research needs to be done in this area before further advice can be given
out, sorry for now.

If you have IE7 on your machine, do the following, and you'll notice
something strange that can only be discovered through scripting grins.
 1. Press insert+j to open the JAWS window.
 2. Press control+insert+v, and note the incorrect Internet Explorer
 version.
 Hope that helps.

 Hi all,
I've figured out a way of getting JAWS to announce the correct version
 of IE.
 1. Open script manager, and close the currently opened script file, if
 any.
 2. On the file menu, press enter on open shared file.
 3. Tab to the files of type combo box, scroll to header file
 4. In the list of files, select jfw.jsh and press enter to load the
 file.
 5. Find the line that says Find_IE (without the quotes), arrow to and
select \\browseui.dll and replace it with \\ieframe.dll
 6. Save and close the header file.
 7. On the file menu, press enter on open shared file.
 8. Shift tab to the files list, select jaws window.jss and press
 enter.
 9. Press control+s to recompile the scripts. You should hear compile
complete. If so, close Script manager, otherwise correct any errors
 found.
 10. Now press insert+j to open the JAWS window (or JAWS context menu,
depending on how JAWS is set).
 11. Press control+insert+v. JAWS should now announce the correct version
of IE. Note however that this will only work if you have IE7 installed
 on your machine.
Hope you find this of some use.
