Does anyone know how to use the find feature with Vista? When you download a file, how do you make sure that the file goes to a specific folder? Any help would be appreciated. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 Update requires a new SMA?
Hi list members, I had bought an SMA with the JAWS version 7.1. Some months ago I updated to version 8.0.423. After the installation I have only one SMA for JAWS 9.x -- so I thought. When I updated the public beta 1163 on the new one last night was me at once SMA unite removed. I have none vacant more now. Is this a fault of FS or which grounds are behind this? I assumed that the update is free from 8.0.423 on 8.0.1163. If I remember that correctly, it was called in the last FS Podcast, that anyway this update is free furthermore, too? [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 problems
Hi all, I'm new to this group. I joined yesterday, hoping I might be able to find some solutions to the crazy problems I've been having since downloading and installing JAWS 8. let me get the system stuff out of the way first. I have a less than a year old PC, with windows XP home, a 3. something gig processor, 1 gig ram, 200 gig hard drive, JAWS 8 with the patch, standard version. I use outlook 2003, *not outlook express* and I still have internet explorer 6. ok, so all these problems began when I installed jaws 8. I went from jaws 6 to 8, never having jaws 7 on this system. Email: I often use control down arrow to read or skim messages by paragraph. Now, at least half the time, this does not work and jaws just reads the first paragraph over and over or just says blank, blank. 2. often when I escape out of a message, there is a lag before jaws will start talking again. Internet: these are the big problems 1. On many sites, ones I have used and frequently use, suddenly the virtual cursor seems not to track correctly and I have to constantly refresh my screen. so for instance, on my safeway.com site, when I go into forms mode to type in an edit field, jaws no longer reads the contents of the edit field to me, unless I go out of forms mode and do insert escape. even so, it often totally loses focus and goes to a completely different area of the page. 2. most of the time now, when I activate a link on a web site, jaws ... well, it's like nothing has focus, and I have to update the screen, insert escape, to get it to focus on the page. This is so annoying as I have to insert escape and then tab to get out of wherever it's hanging. Drives me nuts. 3. Also on the net, most of the time, when I do alt left arrow to go back to a previous page, jaws does not return me to where I was, but again I'm at a completely different part of the web site. MSN messenger I'm using MSN messenger 6.2 still, again, not wanting to upgrade till I know I'm going to stick with jaws 8. Ever since installing this version of jaws, here are my messenger problems. 1. jaws always says, status bar not visible when I use insert page down to try to read the time a message came in or any other status. 2. I no longer hear the typing sound, though the feature is turned on, and often I don't know someone has written something when I'm typing in a conversation window. In general the whole thing seems sluggish. I have not installed the extra voices because of this, for people have told me installing those will slow it down even more. Though I would think my system has enough ram and power to handle it. I consider myself a very competent jaws user and have been an access technology instructor as well. But I am extremely frustrated with this new JAWS and I'm considering going back to version 6. Thanks for any tips or advice, or just commiseration! [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 AND THE REPLY FEATURE
Something really strange about Jaws Version 8 and Outlook Express. Many times, when I press the Control R command when I'm lined up on a message, the Edit box opens okay but Jaws is so sluggish as to be practically useless. You type a word and about 2 seconds later, Jaws responds. Does anyone know what could cause this to happen? Maybe there's some kind of setting change I should make. [JAWS-Users] Jaws 8
Hmmm, I installed Jaws 8 awhile ago and was uninterrupted by a phone call so I pressed the control key and when I returned I had no speech Jaws had installed before this happened except this was something else it was asking me a box was unchecked was the only thing I could determine what was on the screen at the time no other key functions provided any feedback.. I rebooted and I think least I'm hoping this is all it was asking at the time to check if it was to start automatically, as when the reboot finished I still had no speech.. I have went into all the settings and set it up to my likeling and so far so good..knock knock grins. I'm not experiencing any problems so far so good.. Just thought to run this by yall see if I didn't do something right. It wasn't the other voices disk as I didn't install that one before yall think that, lol Hailley --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list%40googlegroups.com/ Address to contact the management team: [EMAIL PROTECTED] You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups JAWS Users List group. [JAWS-Users] jaws 8 and outlook express
Hey all, I just installed jaws 8.0 and down loaded the update that was available. so I am now running 8.0.423. I have noticed that some times when I close outlook express jaws crashes and I have to reboot my computer. Maybe this has been addressed on the list all ready but I have not been able to keep up with the messages lately. Is anyone else having this issue and has anyone come up with a fix for it? Thanks. [JAWS-Users] JAWS 8 acting quirky
Hi. Has anyone else noticed some strange behavior from JAWS 8? I've been forced to use Internet Explorer 7 on this computer since it's not mine. And for the best response, I was told to go to JAWS 8. JAWS 7.0 actually works great with it except for one issue which was resolved in version 8. I couldn't type in any edit fields on line. So, I downloaded the jaws 8 upgrade. And now I can type in the edit fields just fine. The bug, or whatever it was, was fixed. However, a bunch of other problems have come up with JAWS 8 that are, well, more than just an aggravation. For one thing, between groups of links and blocks of text, there used to be a blank space. That way I could control down arrow to that block of text. In JAWS 7 this always works, but in JAWS 8 that blank space is no longer there. I checked, and that blank space is, poof, gone. So, when I control down arrow to the next item, it skips passed the text to the next item below it. It makes navigation a nightmare now. For some reason, JAWS 8 is displaying text differently than JAWS 7. Also, hot keys (if that is what they are called because I don't know what else to call them) are often non-responsive. Now what I am referring to here is where Web pages offer choices to hit the alt key in conjunction with a letter, such as alt A, alt T, etc, it will move the virtual cursor correctly to a particular link. Then all you have to do is hit enter on it. It works great for quick navigation on a Web page where you need to move from page to page very rapidly, such as roll playing game sites. With JAWS 7, these keystrokes work great and the system flies. But with JAWS 8, it's sluggish and often the key strokes don't even do anything. And thirdly, is sluggishness. With the new Internet Explorer 7, JAWS 7.0 is like Sea Biscuit. But JAWS 8 turns my computer into Mr. Ed. I don't know if it's a piggy or what. This is so discouraging that I will be contacting technical support about it to be sure. Yes, indeed. But while I'm collecting data on this big mess, I'm trying all I can to resolve any issues on my own. Well, sort of on my own... with help from you good people as well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, if I may ask. I am getting a new computer next week. I am assuming that Internet Explorer 7 will be my only choice to have on that new computer. Is it possible at all that I can somehow get Internet Explorer 6 on a new computer so I can keep using JAWS 7.0 and not deal with these problems which I fear may never be resolved? Pessimistic, I know, but it comes from my past experience with messes like this. Usually, they never get fixed and I just have to wait for another upgrade or something and hope it gets better. Thanks. And I hope this gets through. I've been no mail for a few weeks. I came back to find that y'all have moved to Google.
