Hi. Has anyone else noticed some strange behavior from JAWS 8? I've been forced to use Internet Explorer 7 on this computer since it's not mine. And for the best response, I was told to go to JAWS 8.
JAWS 7.0 actually works great with it except for one issue which was resolved in version 8. I couldn't type in any edit fields on line. So, I downloaded the jaws 8 upgrade. And now I can type in the edit fields just fine. The bug, or whatever it was, was fixed. However, a bunch of other problems have come up with JAWS 8 that are, well, more than just an aggravation. For one thing, between groups of links and blocks of text, there used to be a blank space. That way I could control down arrow to that block of text. In JAWS 7 this always works, but in JAWS 8 that blank space is no longer there. I checked, and that blank space is, poof, gone. So, when I control down arrow to the next item, it skips passed the text to the next item below it. It makes navigation a nightmare now. For some reason, JAWS 8 is displaying text differently than JAWS 7. Also, hot keys (if that is what they are called because I don't know what else to call them) are often non-responsive. Now what I am referring to here is where Web pages offer choices to hit the alt key in conjunction with a letter, such as alt A, alt T, etc, it will move the virtual cursor correctly to a particular link. Then all you have to do is hit enter on it. It works great for quick navigation on a Web page where you need to move from page to page very rapidly, such as roll playing game sites. With JAWS 7, these keystrokes work great and the system flies. But with JAWS 8, it's sluggish and often the key strokes don't even do anything. And thirdly, is sluggishness. With the new Internet Explorer 7, JAWS 7.0 is like Sea Biscuit. But JAWS 8 turns my computer into Mr. Ed. I don't know if it's a piggy or what. This is so discouraging that I will be contacting technical support about it to be sure. Yes, indeed. But while I'm collecting data on this big mess, I'm trying all I can to resolve any issues on my own. Well, sort of on my own... with help from you good people as well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, if I may ask. I am getting a new computer next week. I am assuming that Internet Explorer 7 will be my only choice to have on that new computer. Is it possible at all that I can somehow get Internet Explorer 6 on a new computer so I can keep using JAWS 7.0 and not deal with these problems which I fear may never be resolved? Pessimistic, I know, but it comes from my past experience with messes like this. Usually, they never get fixed and I just have to wait for another upgrade or something and hope it gets better. Thanks. And I hope this gets through. I've been no mail for a few weeks. I came back to find that y'all have moved to Google.
