From the Jaws window, alt +l for the language menu,
then C, for the change synthesizer sub-menu.
Now use the arrow keys to move thru the list of installed synthesizers.

Thanks for the feedback though what I actually wanted to know was that in
Windows XP for example, you have Microsoft Sam as the SAPI 5 voice, does
Windows 98 have any SAPI 5 voices installed and where can one go and check
if this is so.

No, it doesn't automatically.  You have to manually install any.

It's been a long time since '98 here.  You might try checking in the control 
panel and look for anything with the word speech in it.  In XP it's under 
speech and sounds.

SayAll function or are you using them in some other way? This may make a 
difference.

In that case, you can't vary the volume at all. You can adjust the rate, but
not the volume. It's done in Configuration ManagerSettingsSay All.

Until Windows Vista, Microsoft Sam is the only SAPI5voice supported in (Windows 
Xp) Narrator.
