I'd close Outlook Express; restart the computer (as it appears to be a
good idea); then re-open Outlook Express and then immediately compact
all folders - alt+f, f, f. See how that goes.

When I try to open a new message In OE I get an error report & it asks me if
I want to send this report or not & it turns OE off taking me back to the
desktop! I have no idea on what's happening. Can anyone tell me what's
