Mike, in the disk cleanup option of my hard drive properties, I don't see any
old Windows updates item, but if I tab once beyond this list to view files
and activate

I've never had the window's update item found through that way in the list of
items to be removed.

I forgot to mention that if you don't see an option in that list for old
Windows Updates to be removed, this means there aren't any old updates.

Another way to get to disc clean is...
Go to the all programs list, and in there find Accessories, open it, find
system tools and open it, and in there is Disc
Clean. Click on it and away you go.
