Be sure that you are inserting a space between sfc and /scaannow, it should be like this: sfc /scannow.

Yes, I do not know when this utility was introduced into Windows, but it is

Does this work on a Windows 8.1 machine?
Thanks!

If the scanner finds nothing, it will tell you, and there is nothing to
worry about. If the scanner found corruptions and could fix them, it
would
have reported that it did so. If it had found corruptions that it could
not

fix, then it would be up to you to either run a repair on Windows, or do
nothing, depending on how the corrupted files were affecting your
computer's

performance. The scanner does not offer anything further.

bfout like in my case no corruptions were found so jaws just said no
corruptions were found and automatically quit the scanner, so if
corruptions
a found I do not know if the window with that notification will stay up.

No, you can be doing something while the scan runs, but you might limit
it
to just one or two programs open at one time. Depending on how much
memory
(RAM) your computer has, you should be OK running at least one program
while
the scan runs at the same time.

Hi,

Thanks, I'll try it. Do I have to not be doing anything else on the
computer while it runs the scan?

thanks,

Hi,

You will want to open the Run dialogue box by pressing the Windows logo
key

+ the letter R. then type in "sfc /scannow" without the quotes of
course,
and the system file checker will start scanning your Windows files for
missing and corrupted files. It should take less than an hour for the
scan
to run, and at the end, the scanner will report the system's status to
you.

It will say that:

1. There were no corruptions found,
2. That there were corruptions found and fixed, or
3. There were Corruptions found, but they could not be repaired.

If the latter one appears, you would need to run a repair on your
Windows,
using either a repair or the installation disk, and you will probably
need
some sighted assistance, as you have to boot into safe mode to
accomplish
this.

Windowserrors

Hi,

I'm looking for an accessible and free program that will aloow me to
search for, and fix Windows errors. I have Windows 7 64-bit and JAWS
16. I'd like a specific step-by-step on how to find it and if
necessary if there are any special things about running it, please.

Thanks for the help!!
