I've wondered about this, too, since Windows 7 search hasn't been picking up

Note that once you change your search settings, the system goes through what
looks like a lengthy indexing process, which I didn't pick up on right away.
It continues as I write this message, although I'm told that by working on
the computer, I'm slowing it down. Let's hope this works:

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Starting At The Windows Log-in Screen, A Possible Fix

2017-01-16 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jorge,

I'm going to speak only for Windows 7 & Jaws Basics. Your statement is not
correct in my case, & that's why I had to search for another solution for
why Jaws wasn't starting at the Windows log-in screen. In Jaws basics, & in
the start-up wizard I had Jaws set to start at the log-in screen, but it
wouldn't do it until I made the changes I spoke about earlier in msconfig.
I now know that what I did in msconfig with Windows 7 cannot be done with
Windows 8 & 10. To be quite honest, it surprised me that making the change
I did in msconfig made the difference because I only made that change as an
experiment! LOL
Take care.

Hi All,

Note: The steps below were performed running Windows 7 & all JAWS versions.
For those of you that have Jaws set to start at the Windows log-in screen,
but it doesn't, this might work for you. I looked in, msconfig, & found
that JAWS Freedom Scientific wasn't at the top of the list on the Start-up
Page / Tab, so this is what I did.
1. Press, Windows key + R, to open the run dialog.
2. Type, *msconfig*, without the stars, & press enter.
3. Press, control + tab, until you get to the, Start-up Page / Tab.
4. I arrowed down the list, & unchecked any items above, JAWS Freedom
Scientific, on the Start-up Page / Tab.
Note: Only uncheck the items / programs above JAWS Freedom Scientific, &
nothing else. Pay close attention to what you uncheck because you are going
to recheck these items / programs shortly.
5. Tab to the, Okay, button, press the spacebar, & tab 1 time to, Restart, &
press enter to restart your computer.
6. Once your computer is booted up repeat steps 1 thru 3, & you will notice
that JAWS Freedom Scientific is now at the top of the list.
7. Now, arrow down the list of items / programs on the Start-up Page / Tab,
check the items / programs that you unchecked previously, & repeat step #5.
Now Jaws should start on the Windows log-in screen when your computer
starts. I did the above steps on 4 different computers, both desktop &
lattop, 'm not going to say it works everytime, but it sure works most of
the time, which I can say is a damn site better than before I followed the
above steps.
Take care.

Remember Mike, you clearly stated in your original post that Windows 7 was
the operating system you were referring to. Other folks just assumed to try
it in newer systems. In the future probably include the note that what
instructions you are offering to the list have only been tested in whatever
version of windows you were using at the time.

With luck that might help in such matters or at least I hope so.

Hi Tom,

all, & you having to type jaws17 into the Run dialog to get it started.

What I'm talking about in my steps is Jaws starting , but not when it's
assigned to start, at the log-in screen. Before I did the steps I posted
Jaws would start, but not until Windows & a couple of other programs had
started. After doing those steps Jaws starts at the Windows log-in screen
very reliably, instead of after Windows is totally booted up.

This doesn't work with Windows 10. In 10, when you get to that StartUp tab,
you have to click on a link that takes you to Task Manager.
In my 10, the items in the StartUp tab seem to be sorted by name; not the
order of running. Also in my 10, I have an Enable/Disable button as opposed
to a check/uncheck items. So, I'd have to do more research to determine the
order in which the programs are loaded and how to change this order.
I've done a Google search and can't find anything that tells me how to do it
easily.

That's because anything from Windows 8 and up, the configuration file does
not handle start up items, the task manager does.

It will only work from Windows 7 and down.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Starting At The Windows Log-in Screen, A Possible Fix

2017-01-16 Thread Reed
This doesn't work with Windows 10. In 10, when you get to that StartUp tab,
you have to click on a link that takes you to Task Manager.
In my 10, the items in the StartUp tab seem to be sorted by name; not the
order of running. Also in my 10, I have an Enable/Disable button as opposed
to a check/uncheck items. So, I'd have to do more research to determine the
order in which the programs are loaded and how to change this order.
I've done a Google search and can't find anything that tells me how to do it
easily.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 18 and outlook 2016 not getting along.

2017-01-16 Thread Rose
So, what kind of add-ins would Outlook have? To my knowledge I have never
added anything to Outlook 2010. I have considered upgrading to 365 2016 but
based on some things I read hesitate to do so, including the fact that I
might lose all my contacts, completions etc. I would like to add my Google
account but, Google tells me my e-mail client is too old, had it on until my
disk drive died and everything was reconfigured by repair person. I get
that mail via my iPhone but would prefer to be able to answer any of it on
the computer.

Hello;
Not sure if this will help,
But it may be worth giving it a try.

In case you need to troubleshoot Outlook, it is a good idea to load Outlook
without loading any 3rd party Outlook add-ins. This article explains just
how to do it.

Among other culprits, Outlook add-ins are the usual suspect when Outlook
runs slow or triggers unexpected errors. To determine if the installed
add-ins are causing you problems, the easiest thing to do is to start
Outlook with no add-ins.

Outlook command line switch for add-ins

In order to load Outlook without add-ins, you have to exit Outlook and type
the following command in a RUN window or in a Windows command prompt:

Outlook /safe:3

Please note that, while the above command will cause Outlook to load with no
add-ins, the add-ins are still going to be displayed in the Add-in Manager
window.

Might I ponder here on your situation, Matthew, Please. I did not up-grade
from within Windows 07, instead bought new, no big deal. The big deal was
transferring and then Outlook-Complete office Word and E-mail. Confirming
was a issue as the person forgot to get the key. Forced to get Microsoft
Outlook 2016 Complete with Office with Word and e-mail. They laid over-top
of 2013 Outlook.. I had, would not say major issues but for sure issues.
Anything from Jaws not talking to dying. I went to the Microsoft Handicap,
explained and they removed all traces of outlook that of 2013 and 2016. Then
after making sure all was removed, reinstalled my License copy of 2016 and
since then I have had no issues. Might this be a issue with you? All three
folders of mine work just fine!

2017-01-16 Thread Mike B.
Hi Tom,
>From what I understand from what you've said describes Jaws not starting at
all, & you having to type jaws17 into the Run dialog to get it started.

Take care.

Take care.
Mike

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Starting At The Windows Log-in Screen, A Possible Fix

2017-01-16 Thread jyandt.martin

Mike:

I followed your instructions and when I got to the Start Up Page tab, I
could not arrow down any list. I pressed the tab button and still did not
find any programs list for start up. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Possible Fix

Good stuff Mike, since this has not happened to me I can't reproduce the
fix. I am sure though that somebody out there will benefit from this
information.
