Another way to shut down or restart your computer when JAWS crashes is by
pressing Windows Key+X, followed by the letter U. At this point, pressing
the letter R will restart the computer and pressing the letter U will shut

Control+ALT+Delete, in a few seconds Jaws should speak, up arrow to shut down,
press enter, down arrow to the restart, press enter. This is what I have done

I can absolutely corroborate tom's experience. It's happened to me twice in
the past week using the most recent build of jfw 18 and Windows 10; and when
it does none of the usual methods for resurrecting jfw work at all. further
even if one can get NVDA or Narrator running
The JAWS cursor works on the Windows 10 machine here, except in some of the
relatively new Windows 10 applications (e.g., Settings), where I need to use
the Touch Cursor instead.
I think this is related to how newer applications build their graphical
interfaces. You really need to use the touch
