Hi Jorge,
Most of the times, the paragraph marker character is not actually inserted in
your document, but Word has the option to show these marks turned on. While
these aren't printed by default, those markers may be useful to easily view on
screen the exact position of line breaks and number on spaces, the first
despite word wrap.
To specify which markers you want to show or hide:
1. Press ALT+F to open the File tab, and then the letter T to open Options
dialog.
2. Select the Display category.
3. Tab through the checboxes and check/uncheck as you want.
3. When you're done, press ENTER. The OK button is the default one.

In Spanish you can quickly turn paragraph marks on or off by pressing CTRL+LEFT
PARENT (CTRL+SHIFT+8), but I don't know if that keyboard shortcut is the same
in English; for that reason is why I'm giving you the longest way.

Hope it solves your problem.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Edge

2017-07-10 Thread Fernando Gregoire
I mostly agree. However, it's true that although you can still choose which
Microsoft or non-Microsoft products to use, they're making change to
non-microsoft alternatives harder than it was in the past, with no mention to
the limitations imposed in Windows 10 S.
Regarding Office accessibility, it's also nice to have many tutorials for
accomplishing various tasks by using a screen reader. The Office Accessibility
Center addresses a lot of concerns on this.

I can only speak for myself, but one of the big reasons I have always prefered
PCs over Macs, and Android phones over iPhones, is the amount of choice
available. I sympathise with thsoe who really want to use Edge and want it to
work for them, but the truth is that you don't have to use Microsoft's products
if they dont' make you happy. Firefox is still a great browser and it's fully
supported in JAWS. Chrome works beautifully nowadays when three years ago that
wasn't at all the case. Don't be afraid of choice. Embrace it. Nobody has to
use Edge and because of the nature of the WWW, that will never be the case. I
think Microsoft is a lot better with accessibility concerns now than they used
to be. Its' not perfect, but that's something we should at least be somewhat
accustomed to by now. Remember when Windows 3.1 came out, and everyone was
using it except for blind people because of how crap the screen reader support
was at the time?

And yeah, office accessibility is a work in progress, but they're doing a lot
to improve it with every update. I can understand why Office is an
accessibility priority and not Edge. Simply put, there just isn't really a
great replacement for mS office out there; there's a good reason most of the
working world still uses it. Edge is just one browser among several.

Hi Jorge,

In the, Find field, you need to place the symbol that represents the
paragraph mark, & not the typed words, paragraph mark. Try inserting, ^p,
into the, Find field. That is, Shift + 6, on the number row for the, Caret
mark, + the letter, lowercase, p. Then everything else you tried, & it
should work.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] paragraph marks / space marker in a document

Hi,

I must have accidently change something in a document, I pressed control H
for the find and replace menu, I typed paragraph mark on the find and typed
in blank line in the replace with, tab to all and activated the search.

Word said, it didn't find anything, but the document stills reads wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help.

2017-07-10 Thread Mike B.
Hi Jorge,

I'm sorry, but I misread your post. If you put, ^p, in the find field, &
leave the, replace field, empty you should be okay. I didn't recognize that
you said you typed blank line in the replace field. In these fields you
can't type in words, you can only use symbols, & if I'm wrong others will
jump all over me, & correct me.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Jorge,

By "paragraph mark," do you mean ^p? that's what you need to do. That's shift-6

I recently obtained an Echo Dot, and you're correct. I wonder if NFL game
pass works with the Echo Dot. That might change how accessible it is. It
certainly leaves a lot to be desired on the PC, and on the app.

2017-07-10 Thread Rose
I find it very annoying that Microsoft concentrates of dyslexia, visual
disability if one can actually see and magnify the screen and expects one to
use Narrator for Edge after nearly two years of Windows 10 which keeps
changing keystrokes to do much of anything. If this is complete
accessibility then it is a crying shame. Last said on the subject.

It has been painfully obvious to me that Microsoft has just given talk and
nothing more. If they really wanted computers to talk like Macs do they
could make them do so. All one needs do is look at the Edge browser and say
no more. I wonder if they'll strike a deal with vfo and Office like they did
with Window-eyes. Anything to stall or keep from making computers talk like
a Mac. So one could say "Chuck, shut up and get a mac!" My reply, easier
said than done.

Just my thoughts. I've sent Microsoft feedback on this subject. Microsoft
has the money and the ability to do anything they wish.

Regarding the spell check when using Word 2016, I do agree that the ability
to access the functions via the tab key is quite convenient.

It took me a while to figure out the change between Word 2010 and Word 2016,
but the tab key navigation feature is really nice.

I must respectfully suggest that if you do have the option of updating Word
2016 to the very latest version, the choices in the spell check dialog are
now accessed by simply pressing the tab key, and it works very very well.
It is highly accessible, I am an office 365 subscriber, so that is how I was
able to get the latest update.
I am unsure about installations of Office that are not on a 365
subscription, but I believe that you can go to the Accounts tab under the
file tab and attempt to check for updates.
I completely acknowledge the hideous situation with the Edge browser, but I
believe that Microsoft has been pretty transparent in making their plans
known to incrementally improve accessibility of their Windows and Office
products.

I would like to see how this works, but I do not have an account, and
I'm not really interested in paying what it costs to subscribe. I use
the Tunein app for my NFL football listening experience, and find that
it works very well.

hope it isn't the only won.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Improvements in Microsoft Office accessibility (was Microsoft Edge)

2017-07-10 Thread Jason White
They've also recently introduced an accessibility checking tool to help
authors of Microsoft Office documents to create more accessible content.
Thus, for example, if someone includes graphics in a Microsoft Word file
without providing descriptions of the images, the tool should flag this as
an accessibility issue.

If you want JAWS to read Microsoft Office documents effectively, then part
of the responsibility lies with the authors of those documents (e.g., using
heading styles instead of direct formatting, otherwise you as a JAWS user
won't be able to take advantage of heading navigation in the document).

I completely acknowledge the hideous situation with the Edge browser, but I
believe that Microsoft has been pretty transparent in making their plans
known to incrementally improve accessibility of their Windows and Office
products.

There will come a time when some of you will say, "I wish I was a Windows

As for what I mean by this and more info about the link I posted, please

I can only speak for myself, but one of the big reasons I have always
prefered PCs over Macs, and Android phones over iPhones, is the amount of
choice available. I sympathise with thsoe who really want to use Edge and
want it to work for them, but the truth is that you don't have to use
Microsoft's products if they dont' make you happy. Firefox is still a great
browser and it's fully supported in JAWS. Chrome works beautifully nowadays
when three years ago that wasn't at all the case. Don't be afraid of choice.
Embrace it. Nobody has to use Edge and because of the nature of the WWW,
that will never be the case. I think Microsoft is a lot better with
accessibility concerns now than they used to be. Its' not perfect, but
that's something we should at least be somewhat accustomed to by now.
Remember when Windows 3.1 came out, and everyone was using it except for
blind people because of how crap the screen reader support was at the time?

And yeah, office accessibility is a work in progress, but they're doing a
lot to improve it with every update. I can understand why Office is an
accessibility priority and not Edge. Simply put, there just isn't really a
great replacement for mS office out there; there's a good reason most of the
working world still uses it. Edge is just one browser among several.

If anybody knows any list members on

sbcglobal.net

please contact them to get this domain put on some sort of safe senders list
or the like. I just received around 12 bouncing notices from that domain and
a couple from bell south.

This domain generates a lot of email as you all know and so it does not take
much to end up on a Spam list for the lack of a better term.
