[JAWS-Users] Google Crome
Question. How do I stop crome from showing adds? I hear jaws mentioning about signing up from this or something else. I have my crome setup to open at google, audible and youtube. Do I need to add something to google? Using W10 and JAWS 2018. Holger Fiallo For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem
Hi, No Braille display here at all. A couple years ago, the synthesizer stopped working with Jaws but I don't remember whether the cause was a Windows update of Microsoft Framework or a Jaws update that triggered the issue. Since yours is working on a Windows 10 machine, maybe I will try hooking up the DecTalk up to my newer Windows 10 computer that has the latest build of Jaws 18 and see if it plays. That doesn't solve the issue with this computer, but it might get me off the couch and get the rest of my programs migrated over to the other computer. - Original Message - From: "Shai" To: Sent: Friday, June 29, 2018 12:34 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem Hello, What issue are you having with the DecTalk external synthesizer and JAWS? I noticed that sometimes the comport for the USB serial port and Bluetooth get conflicted which makes the DecTalk express not work. If this occurs, removing the Bluetooth device from that comport if it's already on another port in ports and devices in device manager and restarting the computer resolves it for me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Dectalk Synthesizer problem
Hi Which Dectalk synthesizer are you using? The original Dectalk synthesizers were made by the company Digital Equipment Corporation, which no longer exists. The JAWS 2018 Synthesizer and Braille manager supports the external Dectalk Express synthesizer and the internal Dectalk Access32 software synthesizer which were made by Digital Equipment Corporation and the Dectalk USB 64 synthesizer made by someone else. I am successfully using a Dectalk Express external synthesizer which I got sometime in the mid-1990s. It did get put in storage for a couple of years, while I used the Dectalk Access32 Software synthesizer until I upgraded to Windows 7, which would no longer support that synthesizer. But when I plugged the Dectalk Express into the Windows 7 using a Serial to USB adaptor, nothing happened. It was found that since the Dectalk Express was getting old, the battery needed to be removed and the Dectalk Express needed to be plugged into electrical power. When that was done, the Dectalk Express has worked since then. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Shai Sent: Friday, June 29, 2018 12:35 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem Hello, What issue are you having with the DecTalk external synthesizer and JAWS? Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel cells now reading differently
Hi, I have had intermittent problems like this with Excel back in Windows7 and Excell2010, as well as Excel2016 on both a Windows 7 and 10 machine. This particular problem has occurred less frequent that the other problems, such as JAWS reading nothing, or only part of the cell contents. Yes, all of these problems make it almost impossible to edit a cell. There are a couple of things I do to work around these problems. Make sure the Excel Window is maximized. Even if the maximize choice on the menu is greyed out, I press enter when I am on it just for good measure. Sometimes this actually makes a difference. Use F2 to get into the cell contents. Move to the start of the cell contents with control+home. Now right arrow until you get to the information you want to change. Use F2 to open the cell with the original text that you want to have an edited version of in a different cell. Select All. JAWS may very well not tell you that the text is selected. Copy with Control+C. Use Escape to get out of the cell. Move to the new cell and open it with F2. Use Control+V to paste the information into the cell, and now edit it. As a last resort when nothing seems to be fixing the problem, Use F2 to open the cell, select the entire contents of that cell, copy it and then paste it into Notepad. Make the fix, copy it and then paste it in the new cell that is open with F2. If you use this option, make sure you use Notepad and not Word. The text format in Word will be brought over with the text when you paste it back into the cell. I've noticed that the problem gets worse as the day progresses. Relaunching Excel usually does not fix it. A system reboot sometimes is a fix, but there is no guarantee. I have just noticed the last week or 2 a very annoying event in Excel. I have a Description in a cell as follows, "June 27 payroll draw" When I go to that cell and press F2 and begin to arrow right each time I arrow right JAWS reads me "June 27 payroll draw" instead of "J" then "U" etc. This is more than annoying because if I did not have a little residual sight I would have no way of knowing where the cursor is to delete the 7 and replace with 8. Is anyone else finding this in Excel recently? I feel like the little white ball bouncing between Microsoft and VFO's paddles of "improvement." George A. [JAWS-Users] Dektalk Synthesizer problem
BlankTalk of different synthesizers brought to mind a problem I've had for quite some time. A few years ago, something -- either a new Jaws update, or an update to the Microsoft Visual C-plus-plus broke the external Dectalk's synthesizer interface. I vaguely recall something about this on possibly another list. Has anybody encountered this issue and is there a solution?
