Hi friends,

Not sure if anyone else has noticed but when I open a message in Microsoft
Outlook 2016 to read it, I seem to have to press ctrl+home every time to
take the cursor to the top of the message so that I can start reading it
line by line.
Is there any way to stop this or a reason for it please?

Many thanks in anticipation,

[JAWS-Users] Using the mouse

2018-07-02 Thread Sharon S
Hi all, I have been filling out a form to do with my scout group. I was able
to fill it all out using Jaws however then it asks for a signature. The two
options to complete this is to write with your finger if you are using a
touch screen or to click and drag the mouse across the box if you don't have
a touch screen. So my question is, is there a way to move the mouse around
using the keyboard with Jaws? If not I will either have to get a sighted
person to do this part for me or I could try it on my phone but I'm not that
good at using the touch screen yet.

Hope someone has a good suggestion for this.

I have been catching up on old messages tonight and thanks to the questions
and answers on this great list I was able to fix some issues I was having
and learnt some more tricks with Jaws.

Thanks for any help.

[JAWS-Users] Best program for reading PDFs

2018-06-20 Thread Sharon S
Hi all, I have been sent a document I really need to read as soon as
possible but it is a PDF and it appears I don't have a program on my laptop
to read these. When I tried to open it straight from the email it opened in
edge and I couldn't read anything. After I saved it to a folder in my
documents and went to open it I got a list of programs I could use to open
it but all I tried couldn't display the document. I tried opening it in
notepad and got a lot of rubbish instead of what it was meant to be. So now
I am wondering what the best program to use with Jaws 2018 and windows 10 is
and where can I get it from?

I've been having trouble making the person on the other end understand what
format I need because the first time she sent it to me it was a picture
which of course Jaws couldn't read so I asked her to send it again in a word
file. She then sent me a screen shot of the document so again I had to
explain that jaws doesn't read pictures and asked again for a word version.
She is working on an iPad so she didn't have access to word so she finally
sent me the PDF version. I'm afraid that this too will be a picture rather
than an actual PDF but to find this out I need a program that will open it.

Thanks for any help.

I think the web addresses are the same. Neither opens directly for me from
the email, but both work when copied and pasted into the browser, Chrome, in
my case. I'd copied the address from the website and pasted it into my
message. It did not stay nicely on one line, as Adrian's did. Perhaps the
improvement of Outlook 2016 over my 2010? LOL. But if looked at letter by
letter, so to speak, they're both the same.
But choose the neater version! Smile.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook export/import.

2018-06-20 Thread Sharon S
Hi, I did it this way when moving from one computer to another. I had no
issues except when loading things into my new machine I ended up getting
double ups of messages. This is because I have my mail set to only delete
off the server if deleted from trash so as soon as I set up the new mail
program it started downloading all my messages off the server and once I
imported my messages from my old machine I ended up with both copies.

My only problem I still have is I couldn't export my account settings so I
currently can't get one of my email account working.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] outlook export/import.

good afternoon folks, I'm back with another question, or perhaps a
verification,

one of my client's wants to export from outlook 2010, and import to outlook
2016.

I did a quick google search and found the following.

has anyone tried this?

Look at the process below to migrate Outlook 2010 PST data to Outlook 2016.

Stage1: Backup/Export Outlook 2010 PST data to an Outlook .pst file

To export mailbox data to an Outlook .pst file, follow the steps given
below:

list of 7 items

1. Launch your MS Outlook 2010 application.

2. On the topmost ribbon of MS Outlook, go to the File Tab. Click
Options>Advanced>Export.

3. From Import and Export wizard, select Export to a file. Click Next.

4. In the next Export to a file wizard, select Outlook Data File (.pst) and
click Next.

5. Select the email account name you need to export. To export the entire
PST data, select the checkbox Include Subfolders. Click Next.

You can export a single folder also by selecting that particular folder. In
this case, you have to clear the Include subfolders check box. Click Next.

Note: You cannot select more than one folder to export. To export another
folder, you have to perform the whole process again, i.e., a single folder
or

whole mailbox can be exported at a time.

Here, only Inbox folder is selected to export to a .pst file or to have a
backup of inbox items.

One more option is available to apply Filter to select particular items from
the folder. With advanced filters, you can select important emails from your

folder.

6. In Export Outlook Data File wizard, Browse and select the required
location to export your file. You can select the required option. Click
Finish to

continue.

7. After this, a dialogue box is popped up asking for the password (if you
have set a password for PST file or when you are creating a new .pst file).

Insert password and click OK. Your file will get saved to the selected
location. Select checkbox. Your password is saved for future use.

list end

Stage2: Import and Add PST file data to Outlook 2016

Import Outlook 2010 .pst file into Outlook 2016 using the given steps:

list of 6 items

1. Launch MS Outlook 2016 application.

2. Go to the File Tab. Click Open & Export>Import/Export.

3. From Import and Export wizard, select Import from another program or
file.

4. Select file type as Outlook data file (.pst). Click Next.

5. Click Browse to provide the location of the .pst file to be imported.
Click on the required option and click Next.

6. Select the particular folder or select include all subfolders. You can
apply Filter if selecting a single folder. Click Finish to complete the
process.

list end

dream.

Hi.

Do you know exactly which version of JAWS you were running? It might be
possible that you were running the one that had a nice bug where it always
used 100 percent of which ever cpu thread it was executing on all of the
time. It was 17 point something, if you know what it was we can maybe figure
out if that was the one. In any case, if that's what was going on, I think
it might be possible that your battery wasn't providing enough power to
execute that fast and the board undervoltaged.
this usually should happen when the battery is very low, and never on a
fairly new battery a year or newer, but older batteries that may not be
putting out as many volts as they should could be not providing enough watts
for the system to extend power to all components when the cpu wants more
than a certain amount.

You probably would know your computer now runs cooler than it used to, it
should be very obvious if that's a possible explanation.

To clerify something, it actually turns off, just pressing power starts
it in the boot up process?

Another possibility could be that you put the laptop on your lap in a
certain way or you fidget (no offense intended here) in some way that's
exposing a short somewhere that your brother didn't duplicate. My Lenovo
yoga 2 pro used to take out my WiFi network not just for itself, but for
everybody, if I picked it up by squeezing the right edge in one hand. I
had to get used to holding it with two hands or laying it across an arm
or what ever. So saying, that actually isn't out of the realm of
possibility.

To answer your last question, no, this has never happened to me.

[JAWS-Users] Laptop crashing

2018-06-12 Thread Sharon S
Hi all, I have a acer laptop running windows 10 and Jaws 2018. I have been
having an issue where my computer will turn completely off with no warning
when running on battery. When I restart the laptop the battery level is
always pretty high so it isn't a battery issue. I took note of when this was
happening so my brother could look at the logs and see what is happening.
Well as far as he could see there was no reason for it. Then my brother
played with my laptop for awhile without Jaws on and the laptop didn't shut
down. He gave it back to me and I turned Jaws on and one minute later it had
turned off. So this led us to think it was something to do with Jaws but I
couldn't see why that was causing this. I had an upgrade I hadn't done on my
Jaws so I did that and I haven't had the laptop shut down on me since. I'm
hoping it is totally fixed but does anyone know why this would have been
happening? Has it happened to anyone else?

Thanks.

don't tend to switch off my laptop that often because I have trouble
sleeping at night so I leave it on so I can play with it when I can't get to

switched it off or reset it since. I will probably turn it off tomorrow
because I will be out for a few hours and will see if it fixes itself after
that.

While writing this message I decided to highlight a word and check your
suggestion. Well it doesn't work here, instead it says "this is not
available outside a table". However I was able to get Jaws to say which word
was highlighted by pressing jaws key + shift + down arrow. But if it wasn't
for your suggestion I would have never thought of using such a key
combination.

Thanks.

sleeping at night so I leave it on so I can play with it when I can't get to
sleep. I did the reset that was required for the jaws update but haven't
switched it off or reset it since.

Thanks.

I've experienced this problem inconsistently. You can have JAWS verbalize
selected text by pressing shit+JAWS key+numpad 2. Not ideal, since selected
text should be spoken immediately, but an option.

I am highlighting when in an email inbox or in my document folder. This has
only started after the last upgrade and I haven't changed any settings. I
have tried pressing insert S to go through those settings but none of them
fix the issue.

There is no problems highlighting text on webpages.

Hoping someone can help because I do allot of copying and pasting between

Hi Again All,

Okay, by doing the following Jaws will report the safe to remove message,
although not consistently. I knew I had a note about this somewhere because
this also happens in Widows 7, and this is how I fixed it:
1. Windows key + I, to open Settings, Navigate to Personalization, and press
enter.
2. Go to, Taskbar, press enter, tab to, Notification Area, Select which
icons appear on the taskbar Link, and press enter.
3. Tab to, Windows host process (Rundll32) Button, press the spacebar to
check this option, and you should now hear Jaws report it's safe to
remove after pressing enter on a drive from the Safely Remove Hardware
icon.

Please let me know if the steps work for anyone else.

2018-04-21 Thread Sharon S
Hi, sorry coming in late on this but slowly catching up on a huge pile of
emails. I too have had this problem with allot of my documents. I looked
into the font setting and all looked fine so I got a sighted family member
to look at one of my documents and all was fine. I have bought this up with
someone from VFO and was told it was going to be fixed in the next update
but that was months ago and so far no fix. I am using Jaws 18 on this
machine but haven't checked the same documents on the machine running Jawx
2018. At first I thought it was something funny with my machine until I
mentioned it to this VFO person and I am now glad to see there are others
reporting the same thing.

Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Hi Mike,

Based on what I have figured out, the black on black announcement from JAWS
is not accurate. Visually it is black on white. I have not played with
actual font colors and backgrounds to see how JAWS reports seeing the
colors, but I have found that using the "highlighter" JAWS accurately
reports the highlight color and the text as being black. I wasted a lot of
time trying to figure this out and got nowhere. I finally snagged a
co-worker who was walking by my office and borrowed their eyes. They
reported that everything looked fine on the screen as well as when I printed
it out. I've not checked any of this out in Excel.

Look at the training materials in the JAWS help menu for the so-called

Outlook 2016. This virtual ribbon is VFO's attempt to substitute a simpler

Hi folks! This issue is an oldy but a goody, and one that hasn't been fixed

I have two windows 10 computers, and many times JAWS will not say anything
at the log-on screen indicating that I can type the password. Sometimes I

password. Sometimes, I have to load narrator to find where to put in the
password. The behavior is inconsistent at best.

I wanted to post this to the list, and see if there is anything I can do to
make JAWS work better in this situation. Is there a setting that I need to
check, either in Windows or in JAWS? Any help would be appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Turning on and off the screen shade

2018-02-09 Thread Sharon S
Hi all, I am running windows 10, Jaws 2018 on an Acer laptop. I went to show
something I was working on to my mum the other day, but she couldn't see
anything on the screen. My brother had a look at it tonight while I was out
and said it doesn't look like a hardware issue it looks more likely a
software issue. When mum told me this I remembered the Jaws screen shade. I
don't recall turning it on and I have no idea how to find out if it is on or
not. I have spent some time in the different menu options tonight but can't
find any reference to it. Could someone please tell me how this is turned on
and off so I can see if this is the problem.

I am thinking more and more this could be the problem since this is a
brand-new laptop so there shouldn't be any hardware issues. If it isn't
Jaws, then I will have to contact Acer helpdesk and see what they suggest.

Thanks for any help.

Hi Patti,
Here is step by step how to do it the easy way.
How to create a new folder in Outlook 2010 and 2016 by Jim and Ed Here is
how to create a folder and make emails go into a certain folder in outlook.
This is just the simplest way I have seen to make a folder and cause the
directed emails to go into it.
Using Outlook 2016or 2010 and Jaws.
For example, making a folder for the Jaws users list or making a folder for
the Windows 10 and Jaws Yahoo group.
1. Be on the email account you wish to add a folder to.
For example: ***outlook.com, the *** standing for your name followed by
the email address.
Highlight that account folder, press the applications key while on it.
2. Go down to: New Folder... press enter.
3. Type in the folder name, press enter.
The new folder is created.
4. Go into the inbox of the account you have added the new folder to.
5. Arrow down and highlight the email you wish to put into this folder.
For example: Jaws users list or the Windows 10 and Jaws list.
6. Press the applications key.
7. Arrow down to Rules sub menu, press the right arrow key one time.
8. Press enter on: Always move messages from***followed by the name of the
group or person for this folder.
9. Arrow up and down through the list of folders in this tree view, find the
new folder, press enter.
10. All the emails for now on that you have selected, either a list, group,
or personal email, from these choices will always go into this new folder.
Remember while in the tree view of folders, right arrow key, expands a
folder account, and left arrow closes the list of folders for that account.
This also works in Outlook 2010.
This is a much easier way of doing rules for the outlook email client.
Good luck...

Subject: [JAWS-Users] making a rule

Hey Gang,

I'm running J18, MS word 2010, and windows 10 creator.

I've been trying to create a rule for hours, and I give up, because I don't
know what I'm doing wrong after step 13. Here is what I did.

Can I please get help?

Thanks Patti

First I create the folder,

Next we need to assign a rule/filter to the newly created folder, By doing
the following;

1, highlight a message which you wish to create a folder for, Example; One
of the messages from this group. )JAWS-Users)

2, press applications key, up arrow and enter on, Rules sub-menu, right
arrow to open.

Another way to do this is:

Press applications key, press the letter "s"

And then press the letter "u", which will directly place you into the
message wizard.

3, Here you will see the following screen;

Always Move Messages From:

Always Move Messages To:

Create Rule...

Manage Rules & Alerts...

you now need to down arrow and enter on, create rule

Note, as I indicated, if you use the shortcuts, the letter "s"&"u" no need
to arrow anywhere, since you're in the message rule wizard.

4, you will now see a screen;

Hi, it sounds like you have it shown in conversations. I don't know of any
other settings that will show the messages this way. If you go to view, then
to messages the first option is arrange by conversations and see if that is
checked.

I notice you mentioned a conversations button being greyed out but I'm not
sure where this is. I'm using the latest version of Outlook and the option
in the menu works for me.

I'm probably not much help here but though I would put it out there and see
what happens.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] arranging messages by date only in Outlook 2010

Hello folks.

I've looked for answers to this online already, and nothing quite seems to
resemble my own personal experience, so maybe someone here can offer a quick
suggestion.

Right now, Outlook will display messages mostly in a chronological list,
with the most recent on the bottom. This is good. However, it groups things
together, by subject, and I discovered I can miss messages this way if I'm
not careful. I'd like sorting to be done only by chronology, so that all my
internet invoices for instance aren't grouped together in the list; replies
to a thread only appear in the list according to the date on which they show
up and not because they belong in a thread together. I hope this makes
sense. I have read about the "conversations" view that started in this
version of Outlook (I believe), yet the "conversations" button in the view
tab of the ribbon . actually seems to be greyed out. So, maybe it's
something much simpler I'm looking for, like "sort by subject". I have to
admit that outlook's flagging, sorting and grouping features leave me
scratching my head a little, in part because of the way JAWS seems to handle
them. I'm probably just missing something straightforward. Anyway, I'm
running outlook 2010, as said, and JAWS 18, with a pop3 style incoming
server account. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Strange occurrence turning on the computer

2017-09-19 Thread Sharon S
Hi, I hear this sometimes when starting my machine and I just guessed it was
something to do with the sign in page of windows. Do you have to put in a
password? I do and it is on this window I sometimes get this message.

I don't think it is anything to worry about.

Bye for now.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Strange occurrence turning on the computer

Hello,

Jaws 18 and Windows 10 ..

Normally when I turn the computer on I wait approximately 10 to 20 seconds
and then Jaws will say "Jaws home use" and I'm ready to go.

Yesterday, when I turned the computer on after about 5 or 10 seconds Jaws
said "Jaws for windows, overlay windows zero, overlay windows zero, overlay
windows zero". Then, after another 5 or 10 seconds Jaws said "Jaws home
use" and I was ready to go.

I've had this computer for almost four months and this has never happened.
Has anybody experienced anything like this and is this something to be
concerned about? Thanks for any input.

Laura

Re: [JAWS-Users] Bullets in MS Word 2013

2017-06-20 Thread Sharon S.
Hi al, a quick way to add bullets are if you hit shift 8. This give you a star
which turns into a bullet once you hit space. I know this happens to me
everytime I try and put a star in a document.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Weather

2017-03-29 Thread Sharon S
Cool I really like this feature. My only problem with it is in the list of
daily forecasts it doesn't give you the expected high for the current day or
expected low for the current night. I'm sure it used to have this
information but I can't remember when it disappeared.

Is FS aware that the weather in Research It is not working?

Anyway to contact Weather wonderground aside from the webpage? I have only
today's forecast and a bunch of stuff about fire warning that does not
really apply to my area.

Yesterday I managed to get a full forecast but today only today's.
