I would call this in, but thought I'd see if anyone else can replicate it
first.

Yesterday, after I installed the new version, I went first to Microsoft
Edge, and played around in there with different websites, to see how text
selection worked. It worked fine, as I said yesterday.

But what I did not mention yesterday was when I went back to Chrome, the
Google page loaded, but JAWS showed nothing on the screen. Nothing when I
typed into the search box, nothing when I turned the pc cursor on and
arrowed down the page, nothing when I refreshed the screen with JAWS
key-escape, nothing when I rotated through the f6 options. No luck with
Windows-tab or alt-tab in going away from the page and coming back.

I turned off the computer and when it rebooted, all was fine.

This morning, Chrome was fine. But when I went to Edge for a while and then
came back to Chrome, the same thing happened as the day before. This time,
rather than shutting the computer down, I just restarted JAWS. When it came
back, it had sorted itself out and Chrome is working properly again.

Is this a bug? Several others reported things not working properly till the
computer was rebooted. I will call it in, or perhaps Eric Damery can
replicate this one too? Smile.

I' dbe a bit worried why JAWS is deleting the scripts. It definitely
shouldn't be doing that.

To install the scripts, make sure you are copying them into the folder
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\Freedom

I understand the pain. But can you reinstall the scripts?

I believe there is some kind of NVDA add-on for goldwave already. I
downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. Check the add-ons page and
you'll see it. It might not be as good as the Goldwave scripts were, but if
JAWS keeps removing them, well...you know.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest Jaws Update?

2016-07-14 Thread Dave Carlson
Tom,

Here you go.

Enhancements in JAWS 17.0.2417 (July 2016)

The following is a list of improvements made between the JAWS 17 June 2016
release and the July 2016 update.

JAWS
list of 8 items
. We have been working with Microsoft to improve the accessibility of the
Mail app included in Windows 10. After installing this update, read-only
messages
you open are now read using the Virtual Cursor, similar to Outlook.
Additionally, just like in Word or Outlook, JAWS now announces when you turn
on or
off the bold, italic, and underline attributes in editable messages using
the CTRL+B, CTRL+I, and CTRL+U commands. While users should notice improved
performance
with the currently released Mail app, Microsoft has made a number of changes
as well to improve the experience which will be included in a Windows 10
update
that will be available in the coming weeks.
. Due to issues with obtaining results from 411.com, the People Search
Research It lookup source has been updated to use the web site 10digits.us.
To search,
you now only need to enter the person's first and last name. If you receive
too many results, you can narrow the search further by typing the person's
first and last name followed by a comma, and then the city and state, or zip
code. For example, John Smith, Saint Petersburg FL, or John Smith, 33716.
. Addressed an issue where the INSERT+4 keystroke could not be found using
the JAWS Command Search feature. This command opens a dialog box where you
can

No, it is the asinine feature that Freedom Scientific decided to push to
everybody that is on by default in the latest update to J17.
You can go into settings manager, Miscellaneous to turn it off.

Kind of reminds me of the blowback Apple got for pushing that U2 album to
everybody when they updated IOS 8.

Hi friends,

Just upgraded to the latest JAWS 17, when I re-booted after a while, a

strange, has anyone else noticed this or is something very odd going on with my

Re: [JAWS-Users] Latest JAWS Update

2016-04-07 Thread David Moore

Hi Steven,
In the previous update of JAWS, Freedom Scientific added this feature to
JAWS. If a FS cast comes out, JAWS lets you know and sometimes starts
playing it. However, you can turn this off in settings center. Just open the
settings center with insert+6 on the numbers row, and make sure that you
press CTRL+SHIFT+D to get to the default. Then, tab to the tree view and
arrow almost to the bottom right above the settings you have made. Right
there, you will be able to turn this off and you will never have that happen
again. Over all, this is the best update to JAWS that we have enjoyed for a
long time. No more crashing. Smart navigation works better. Works great in
win10. Take care and God bless.

Howdy,

Notify about new FSCasts ,this is a new feature in the latest J17.0.1539
release. You can disable it in the settings center Default All Applications.
You can search in the settings center Default All Applications by typing
FSCast or find it under, Miscellaneous, this is the miscellaneous that's
almost at the bottom, right above Last Changed Settings, it's 21 of 22,
if you wish not to be notified when there is a new FSCast. Simply uncheck
the box and select apply & okay in the settings center.

Take care.

Yes, I am noticing the same problem, more over I am noticing that some
times, jaws stop talking, and is not way to know what is going on on

restarting, it is still running, but just stop working for a few

is working worse than jaws 15, or the older versions, for example jaws
 14. This problem is happening on windows 7, windows 8, home or

[JAWS-Users] latest jaws update bug

2015-04-17 Thread Marvin Hunkin
Hi.

Well.

The latest jaws update has a bug, and has some thing to do with the voices.

When I installed the latest update, jaws works fine with eloquence for a
while, then if I switch to say, ava, goes very slow, and if I go to
eloquence, goes very fast and like chip munks.

And so.

Have e-mailed the issue to freedom scientific.com.

So if you are experiencing the same issues.

Had to totally uinstall jaws , and then reinstall, and say no to the
updates.

Now just checked the eloquence and the vocaliser voices, and they go to the
correct voice, and speak out the correct settings, which I have, set to 64
for speed, all for punctuation, so.

Just warning you.

Hopefully fs will fix this issue with vocaliser voices.

Had to use the windows 8.1 hazel voice, okay, but a bit sluggish.

Not asresponsive as vocaliser and eloquence.

Marvin

[JAWS-Users] latest JAWS update, should I download it?

2012-08-05 Thread Steve Crews
Hello, I know that there is a JAWS update that I haven't downloaded yet.

I have noticed from emails on the list that there are some problems with it.

Have these problems been worked out or should I wait for corrections to be
made before I download the latest update?

I am not having any trouble with the current version I am using, JAWS 13
with updates upto the current one.

So, I guess my question is, should I wait to update JAWS?

Thanks

also, I have noticed the system slightly sluggish after install.

Re: [JAWS-Users] latest Jaws update

2012-07-28 Thread Doris and Chris

Dear Mr. Dave,

I have followed only part of this thread as I do not have access to
bard myself. However, is this a script issue or a problem with code
in the latest jaws executable itself? I am wondreing if going back to
the scripts from the previous build of jaws 13 would fix the issue or

Possibly some sort of auto refresh command might work. That's for smarter
people than me to tackle. Not a bad idea never the less. I'm sure it will be
fixed shortly.

Think about it folks: We're talking about 4 or 5 operating systems along
with an incalculable combination of software and hardware still it all works
for the most part.

Consider the witches brew of software that resides on your own system and

It might of not had it for you, but it did for me. Was told by FS to
upgrade video drivers. When I told them It was new card and up to
date drivers. then got told it was my problem. Now a lot of you here
are having that same problem like I said guess not my video card or
drivers. Some one has proven that these issues are not there in 12
but are in 13. Aren't bugs fun when your told your not having a problem?

2012-07-28 Thread Jo Luland
I've been switching to JAWS12 to use the BARD website since the last update
of JAWS because my PW was not accepted by the site. Before that, I had the
same problem and I contacted FS and with a tandem session it was corrected.
With the latest build JAWS13.0.924 the problem resurfaced. I'm glad to learn
of the current situation, because although I already downloaded the new
version, I think I'll stay with what I've got now and not install the
update.

Re: [JAWS-Users] latest Jaws update

2012-07-26 Thread David
Hello folks;
it's not rocket science,
finding the list of fixes is quite easy,
I read the information yesterday before I installed the update.
The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS
13.0.924 release and the JAWS 13.0.1005 posting.

list of 5 items
. Improved navigation of ARIA menus.
. In Microsoft Internet Explorer, if a bulleted list is nested inside a
numbered list, resolved an issue where JAWS would read the bulleted items as
numbers
instead of bullets.
. Addressed a reported issue of JAWS reading the actual content of password
fields on some Web pages.
. Resolved an issue where Personalized Web settings were not being loaded as
expected after being configured for a particular Web page.
. Addressed a customer reported issue using JAWS with the MPLab Integrated
Development Environment (IDE) application.
list end

http://freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/JAWS13-previous-enhancements.asp

not a heck of a lot to get excited about.

They do, go look in the what's new section. It is listed there, Jaws
13.1001, and below its list of five changes are the previous versions.

I don't mean to bitch about FS, but why is it that they can't post the list
of changes in the latest release when they post the release itself?

[JAWS-Users] latest Jaws update

2012-06-01 Thread Greg Washington
It seems Fs updated Jaws today. See below for changes/fixes.
The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS
13.0.852 release and the JAWS 13.0.924 posting.

a.. JAWS 13 now works with the most recent braille display drivers from Handy
Tech and Papenmeier released in the second quarter of 2012. If you use a
braille display from Handy Tech or Papenmeier and you have installed the latest
drivers, you must install this JAWS 13 update in order to continue using your
display. A version of JAWS 12 compatible with these new drivers can also be
downloaded from the Previous JAWS Downloads page.
b.. Addressed an issue where JAWS would not automatically detect changes in
content on certain Web pages in Internet Explorer 8 unless INSERT+ESC was
pressed to refresh the virtual buffer.
c.. In Windows Live Mail, JAWS no longer announces read-only when opening a
message or when navigating through links in an HTML message.
d.. Resolved an issue where information in the To and Subject fields of an
Outlook 2007 message was not always being spoken when entering the field.
e.. Resolved an issue where it was not possible to post a status update on
Facebook using Firefox.
f.. Resolved issues of text on certain Web pages not being shown in the
virtual buffer in Firefox.
g.. When performing a Say All (INSERT+DOWN ARROW) in OpenBook 9 while JAWS is
running, resolved an issue where a repeated dinging sound was heard and JAWS
would eventually close.
h.. Resolved an issue in the Windows Calculator where pressing D in
Statistics mode to clear all data was causing JAWS to announce control not
visible and data was not being cleared.
i.. In the Windows Calculator, addressed an issue where JAWS would sometimes
announce calculation results multiple times, or unexpectedly while entering a
calculation.
j.. Addressed issues of ARIA menus not displaying correctly in braille using
Structured Mode.
k.. Resolved a customer reported issue reading tables in Internet Explorer
with a braille display. The contents of tables are now displayed correctly in
Structured Mode.
l.. Addressed reported issues with certain Web-based applications where JAWS
was not properly detecting focus changes or updates in Web page content.
m.. Addressed an issue with JAWS not speaking as expected when left
justifying text in Microsoft Word and Outlook using the CTRL+L keystroke.
n.. The script functions SetSystemVolume and ChangeSystemVolume now work
correctly in Windows 7.
o.. Addressed an issue using the Focus series braille display with a Network
JAWS client.
  p.. Greg Washington
  q..

The problem which you describe happened to me. The fix:

I uninstalled JAWS 13.
The setting scripts were ailing. I had to specify that the scripts, etc.
were to be removed.

After downloading from the Freedomscientific site installing the latest
release went smoothly.

When you want to repair, double click on the file which you installed the
latest release of JAWS.

After JAWS configures your system, there
are three choices such as: Repair, Uninstall and one more choice that I
cannot name.Click one of the three choices.

The other problem I am getting is that tutor messsages and and shortcut keys

I advised FS of this yesterday shortly after it was released but have heard

It made a reference to the startup wizard, which happened to open once I got
out of the manage applications dialogue.
I went thru the wizard, and after that everything seems to be okay.

RJ, the key you describe as the 'content key' is the * context menu key
*. (This to avoid possible confusion or misapprehension.)

I had to use the content key and run the file as a administrator.
Problem solved. Still O E isn't perfect, but sure is a world of

[JAWS-Users] Latest jaws update doesn't seemed to have resolved my ongoing issue with outlook express 6.

2010-04-17 Thread Albert Cutolo

Good morning everyone:

Yesterday morning, I installed the latest update for jaws 11. When I
wentback into my outlook express 6 too read my email, I noticed that my
ongoing problem with outlook express 6still reads previous names of messages
which were deleted. In other words, when I delete a message that I have
already read and open another new message, I hear the name and subject line
of the previous senders message. Before I installed the latest update of
the latest jaws, which was version jaws11 point 754, I went and reinstalled
jaws 11 full version from the website too see if that might have corrected
the previous version of the program. since it didn't, I reinstalled jaws 11
from the web, because I don't have a dvd driveon this computer as it is
almost 8 years old. I have tried doing a repair of jaws but as I said, it
is still ongoing. Since I have nortons antivirus running in the backround
shouldn't it pick up any viruses that are on my system? Should I also, maybe
do a full system scan? is it possible that there might be mailware that's
causing this problem? If anyone has other suggestions to offer then the
one's I've already tried, bring them on.

Hi David:

I'm glad that you haven't been experiencing the same problem using outlook
express 6 that I'm having. It seems to read subject lines and names of the
previous senders message, even though I delete the prior message. Do you
think that since I've never updated the latest video drivers for the video
card that's in this computer since I boughte
it back in 2002 might be causing the problem? I've never attempted to do
this because I've heard that whenever people update there video drivers for
there particular video display, that it caused more problems for them when
they used jaws then it was worth, so that's why I've never done

That is always a possibility. Driver updates some times break things but
