Thanks much for the info but I think I will go for the KVM swith using the
iogear equipment. I prefer to keep things as simple as possible as I am an
amateur computer user. Thanks again though for the info.

Hi.

Another solution is if your computers both have decent bluetooth to use a
bluetooth keyboard that has multiple connection support like the logitech
k760. I believe there are other logitech keyboards that can do this also. Of
interest, if you wanted just one set of speakers it might be possible if one
of your computer has line in, to have a patch cable going from the speaker
out jack on one computer to the line in jack on the other, then on the one
that has the line in, set it to listen to the line in jack through that
computer's output sound card. Then use speakers connected to the computer
with the line in jack and you should be able to hear both computers through
the same set of speakers, at the same time so you'll know if the one you're
not using right now is up to something if it has speech or is playing
sounds. Of course, if you use two sets of speakers moot point. The speaker
discussion might be worth thinking about even if you go for kvm switch,
especially if it does have no audio support.

Good luck. I use USB speakers on my desktop computers USB powered speakers
that is so very low power usage, and I just leave them be so all my
computers can be heard any time they're up to something that makes noise.

2016-09-22 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Fred,
I hooked mine up with my wife's assistance. I told her where all the wires
hook up to. The KVM switch will come with two wires coming out of it. On
each branch of wires is a VGA, two USB and one RCA audio speaker and one RCA
mic which you will plug into each desktop. Then you plug your Monitor's VGA
plug into the KVM switch. Then plug your keyboard and mouse USB into the
switch. Then plug your RCA speaker audio plug and your RCA Mic plug into the
KVM switch. I do not have a microphone RCA plug you don't have to plug one
in if you don't have one.

If you need any other assistance email me and I will provide you with my
phone number. You can also email me on the River group or the windows 10 and
Jaws group to get my phone number and email address. I don't want to put
them on the Jaws list.

Hi Fred,

Yes, it can be setup without sighted help. Just be careful when you're
hooking up your monitor cables so you don't bend any pins. The rest of the
cables are USB & speaker / soundcard plugs. If it will make you feel more
comfortable, you can contact me off list, & I'll do what I can to walk you
through getting it all connected.
Take care.

It is doable if the keyboards are hard wired. For years I controlled two
computers with the same keyboard mouse and monitor. There was a switch that
the cables went to each computer and the keyboard etc was also connected.
There was an a/b switch to select what computer you wanted to access. That
setup was for my work computer and home computer.

You're welcome, in my case I only have 1 computer on this desk but as
friends and family often bring me systems to work on it became something of
a need to obtain a KVM switch. They actually believe I fix their respective
systems, the silly fools. I tell them it is all done with mirrors.

As others have stated you need a KVM switch with audio support. Not all of
them have the audio support feature if memory serves so make sure the model
you pick has that capability. Mine was around $30 that controls 2 systems. I
have had it for quite a few years already, and just so you know there are
KVM switches that control up to 8 systems or possibly more but they get
really expensive.

monitor, and one set of speakers and have them connected to two computers.
All I have to do is push one button to switch from one computer to the other
one. I have had it for many years and it workds very well. I think the cost
of KVM switch cost around 20 to 30 bucks. It had all the wires on it to
connect to two computers. You just plug your mouse, monitor, keyboard and
speakers in to the switch. If you want to know the brand I have let me know
and I will have my wife look at it and tell you what brand it is.
I hope this helps.
You can have both computers on and then switch between them. I have been on
the phone with Microsoft Disability Line and had them on both computers at
the same time. I told the guy he can do that and he tried it. So he fix both
my computers at the same time and I was able to just hit the switch and go
back and forth between both computers.

The device you want is called a KVM switch.

KVM stands for keyboard, video and mouse switch, and it will allow you to
control two computers using one of each of those devices.

Hope this helps.
