There is a problem with the java:/DefaultDS not being started in the
current 3.0 codebase. Running either the all or default configs shows
the jboss.jca:service=LocalTxCM,name=hsqldbDS never becoming
fully started:

OK. I want to get the jboss-app.xml for incuding sars and *-service.xml
into 3.1 soon. This is intertwined to some extent with teh ear-scoped
loader. Do you have a specific idea for a different approach to the
ear-scoped loader? I can't really see a substantially different way,

There are no log dirs in a clean build but they are supposed
to be created as needed. I don't see that happening right
now so I'll check into why.
