one issue I have in mind regarding multiple processor for a deployment is how

in nukes-2.0 you can implement you own style of URL if you want.

I already have done something like /blah where blah is the portal name (usefull
when you have multiple portal per portal object container)

ok, so two points,

first there is no support for user/group so far, that means no persistence.

so generating ddl is useless... but this is actually what I am working on

so what you can really use are the portlet features.

now the portlet container is developer we have started to migrate nukes to the 2.0
base.

one other thing, you need jboss-cache.jar (located in all/lib) in default/lib

that is not very clear for me :-),

seriously if you want another display scheme, *just* develop a new ParserStack
different from this one. The parser stack framework has been designated for that
purpose. So you will not touch the current one and develop a new one that fit your
needs. Then make it configurable at the portal level.

A simple jboss service that start/stop a timer based task.

This task fetch mails in a box through pop protocol with javamail.
Then it insert post in Nukes, it works already for jbossmail :

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/jboss/nukes/jbmail/src/main/org/jboss/nukes/addons/jbmail/forumposter/

You have to adapt the code to work with pop/javamail rather than jbossmail

These fixes should have been applied to head first then backported to 1.1

Now you have to port them to head or they will be lost.

Maintaining several branch is not easy all the time, nevertheless it is the
responsability of the developer to do it.

can you post what does not work for building ?

nukes 2.0 is a revamp of the portal infrastructure, for now it has only portal and
portlet capabilities and does not have all the modules builtin nukes 1.1 yet.

actually the next milestone is about porting nukes 1.1 modules to 2.0

I think it is not yet reasonnable to use 2.0 for developement unless you are
developping jsr-168 portlet.

[JBoss-dev] [Nukes Development] - Re: Non-SQL92 SQL Statement Strategy

2004-09-28 Thread cooper
this is EJBQL or JBossQL so it is portable accross different database since it is
compiled by CMP2 into the good SQL dialect by the engine.

mlavergn wrote : Ok, some SQL statements used in the EJB xdoclet defs extend beyond
SQL92 causing portability issues. To cite a particular example, from
org.jboss.nukes.core.ejb.FileEJB:
  |
  | SELECT DISTINCT SUBSTRING(f.fileId, 1, LOCATE('/', f.fileId, LENGTH(?1) + 2)) FROM
file AS f WHERE f.fileId LIKE CONCAT(?1, '%/%')
  |
  | This statement uses several MySQL specific extensions / names, namely:
SUBSTRING(), LOCATE(), AS x, and CONCAT()
  |
  | I need a strategy for making this sort of SQL portable. Here are the options as I
see them:
  |
  | 1) Define Ant filters to insert DB specific code at compile time
  | 2) Modify the XDoclet template to insert DB specific code at compile time
  | 3) Extend XDoclet jboss tags to include something like @jboss.query.mysql,
...oracle, etc
  | 4) Create a set of SQL functions to mimic the desired routines
  | 5) Create a java class to mutate the SQL statement to the DB specific format
  | 6) Ignore problem and hope it goes away
  |
  | My gut feeling is that Ant filters -or- the XDoclet template are the way to go
with this but I'd like some input from others as to the preferred route since this
could have pretty far reaching implications. Thanks!

you put the finger on it, if you set the value from within the MBean it will not be
persisted. The ModelMBean does not do interception of fields so it cannot be aware of
the change you made and the only way to force persistence is to traverse the JMX stack
by doing an explicit setAttribute().

You have to check first that something like : INSERT INTO BLAH ('aaa',1,true) works,
i.e work with Statement.

Because if it does rely on PreparedStatement when you execute something your statement
looks like INSERT INTO BLAH (?,?,?) then the proprietary driver takes care of
marshalling the types when it talks to the database.

LDBC could be used only to create portable CREATE TABLE/DROP TABLE statements. Perhaps
it could work for Statement.

[JBoss-dev] [Nukes Development] - New releases

2004-09-22 Thread cooper
We have release Nukes 2.0 Developer Release and Nukes 1.1 RC3.

Nukes 2.0 DR features our portlet container implementation technology preview.

Nukes 1.1 RC3 features more modules and a new installer. Special thanks to jae and
thomas which have given a lot of work on this release.

You can download everything from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=22866package_id=84509

Release notes for DR

Nukes 2.0 Developer Release.
  | This release features JBoss Nukes Portal and its portlet container
  | implementation which pass all the test of Portlet TCK.
  |
  | This is a developer release and the goal is to feature the portlet
  | container which is the first step of the upcoming Nukes 2.0 release.
  | The next versions will see more features and personnalization
  | capabilities. Obviously popular Nukes 1.x modules will be ported to
  | Nukes 2 Platform offering to the user an advanced portal.

Changelog for 1.1

from nukes-1.0
  |
  | - new modules in the release :
  | - download module
  | - news module
  | - RSS module
  |
  | - core :
  |
  | - refactored NukesBuilder to build ComponentMetada and AttributeMetaData which are
then translated into the component MBean interface.
  | - renammed EntityParser - HTML4_0CharacterEntityReferenceParser
  | - added XML1_0CharacterEntityReferenceParser class which detects char sequence
like A or A
  | - modified the ToHTMLRenderer which now detects things like A and let them as is
instead of producing A
  | - modified the entity table to have two entity table, FULL=all the entities,
BASIC=all the entities except gt,lt,amp,quot
  | - changed semantic for getParameterAsBoolean(String, boolean) which was relying on
the System property in Boolean.getBoolean
  | - new database installer
  |
  | - bb forum :
  | - indexing process improvements
  | - seach engine improvements
  | - once the results are sorted from the search use the good criteria to display
them
  | sorted page by paage
  | - use DateField to get the date from the indexed document
  | - added sorting search result by date
  | - take in account the search for any term (OR) / search for all term (AND) in
the forum search
  | - lower value for the batch loading since hsqldb seems to have a recursive way
to execute
  | a prepared statement it causes a stack overflow error when it's too large
  | - added repost command which allow an user with Edit privilege to repost a
message
  | (means resend a notification to forum watchers)
  | - added patch which fix the newest post bug. Indeed the newest post was taken
from all the
  | post on the website instead of the ones from the designated topic
  | - added security verifications on the watches. if the user is authed on the
notifier forum
  | send email otherwise perform a watch.remove() on the EJB tl avoid further
notifications.
  | The same is done when a user edit his watch list.
  | - fixed reply bug in the forum : the command was getting a topic id and was
looking for a post,
  | so no such post was occuring
  | - partially support URL like [url=http://www.google.com]google[/url] in the bb
code parser
  |
  | - news module :
  | - fix NPE when doing anything w/ story via preview display
  | - removed all calls to entity beans (uses the helper dao now)
  | - added checks for required parameters
  | - various template layout / consolidation refactorings
  | - added a selected=selected on the submit news story and set the first element

  | - prevent topic with empty name to be created
  | - fixed some security checks
  | - fixed display bug, the topic text was displayed instead of the topic name in
the topic admin
  | - simplified some util method using string buffer whereas it was not mandatory
  | - more refactoring (and still lots more to go) to improve and slim down code
  | - collapsed AddStory, Comments, News, Topics, FormattedStory into NewsModule
  | - extracting html into templates
  | - fixes to allow everything to click through

  | - added FileStatEJB which keep records of HTML module access statistics
  | - added per page statistic in the HTML module. A ConcurrentHashMap keep
  | tracks of access during an interval and a background thread process
  | these statistics by creating FileStatEJB entities.
  | - fixed the missed notification when a file was uploaded
  | - factored file edition out of HtmlModule into plugins : FilePlugin,
  | TextPlugin and LinkPlugin
  | - added link concept between pages

2004-09-13 Thread cooper
It can be taken for a starting point. But it need to be reworked.

Indeed the trick here is to have the parser generate events, not directly output. Thus
it is possible to have several renderers.

The forum use this architecture :

Message - Parser stack - Renderer

Renderers are mainly to have HTML and plain text. This is how the mail notifications
are generated.

[JBoss-dev] [Nukes Development] - Re: Wiki module?

2004-09-12 Thread cooper
There is no written parser yet.

Actually the wiki parser must be integrated through the parser stack framework sitting
in the common module.

Then the HTML module must be capable to interpret some files with a specialized
content type text/wiki and render it. That would be an internal content type and the
real content type is text/html.

The interest of the parser stack integration is the unified use of this framework and
the reuse accross different modules like news and of course the forum.

The problem here is not performance wise, the problem is that it generates out of

[JBoss-dev] [Nukes Development] - Re: Can users be deleted?

2004-08-25 Thread cooper
the problem with deleting user is the coexistence with other modules, what should be
done with post that are related to that user for instance ?

we need to think about it. or think that a user related to something may not exist.

that's why there is enable/disable for a user.

now if you want to delete an user, you can do it in the database, but what about all
the post he did in the forum for instance ? the CMP engine will not be able to load
the related user because the PK is invalid.

Maybe not delete the row but put the info : enabled/disabled/deleted

2004-08-23 Thread cooper
chasetec wrote : Is RC3 the final release canadate for Nukes 1.1? When are we hoping

  |

Perhaps, everything seems fine except some bugs in the download module :-). Frankly I
think yes, and according to the number of bug you are fixing it will be ok. We will
wait for you to fix these.

chasetec wrote : Also, what is the criteria for module inclusion in HEAD versus the
1.1 branch? I know HEAD is for new features along with bug fixes and 1.1 is for bug
fixes but since I haven't been around till now to see things progress, are the extra
modules in HEAD just unstable or were they created after a feature freeze for 1.1?
  |

A module to be included must meet the following :

  | * quality : too many module have been built via a simple conversion
  | * bugs : must be free of bugs
  | * finition : a module must not be half done, if it miss features then it's not
ready and should not be part of the release.
  |

We have thinking about 2 things :

  | * have a lead per module, this is the case now for the major modules
(html,bb,news, downloads). It is important that one person takes care of one module,
i.e add new features, fix bugs answer on the forum, document it, q/a, integration with
core.
  | * an incubator would be a good idea as well, all the unfinished modules would go
there, people could start new module here as well.

[JBoss-dev] [Nukes Development] - Back to the old ddl, forget pure CMP

2004-08-04 Thread cooper
I have created a news installer in branch 1.1 that is minimal but works. I have also
worked at minimizing the redundancy in the ddl files with an improved format of
setup.xml.

I think we should forget the idea of pure CMP because this is not possible to use it
to insert data in the database. It's not a problem of post-create-table it's a problem
of data portability, let me explain :

1/ for each database the insert statements are different because the data format
varies. So it makes impossible to keep the data in one place.
2/ Some format are not flexible for modifications

I have improved the setup.xml format with the following structure :

  | module
  | action description=blah
  | sql description=blahcreate table my_table (INTEGER a, VARCHAR b, VARCHAR
c);/sql
  | /action
  | action description=blah
  | insert table=my_table
  | Integer1/Integer
  | Stringportable string/String
  | /Null
  | /insert
  | /action
  | /module
  |

The insert statement is portable accross all data because the processing of it uses
JDBC to create and populate the statement.

The sql statement are usually not portable since they are specific to the database and
may contains optimizations that are not possible with the generic JBossCMP create
table generation.

To avoid redundancy, I factor out the insert part with an inclusion mechanism with XML
entities.

The new installer takes these data and creates the statements in the database. It is
capable to detect the existing datasources and find
the good setup file according to the info provided by the driver at runtime.

For now it works well with hsqldb and mysql.

Some modules are not converted yet, I am looking someone capable to do that, who is
volunteer ?

cheers

simplify the DB feeding problem. I will try to tweak jae+sacha+noel xml/xsl/bsh

the current in that the DB content format is dependant on the database (i.e mysql and

However that persistence is very simple and poor and does not allow for rich metadata

this is related to the chain handling during the request. before being dispatched to
the target the request can be handled by the module :

HTTP Request - Nukes Servlet - Chain of handlers - Target module

so it has the chance to intercept the request and provide some kind of work, for
instance the User module makes sure that if a user is using the site with the
remember me token it is automatically authenticated.

They have been put in the CVS under : nukes-docs

why not use the HTML module itself to store these files by using a dedicated folder
for that.

you can create insert files in the file tree by using the HTML commands that have been
introduced recently. Look at the FilePlugin for the HTML module which does that.

then you can access your content with URLs like /a/b/c

when you request /modules/toto/a/b/c.gif, the module toto will have a request to
return the resource /a/b/c.gif.

so when you handle the resource for /a/b/c.gif you need to return that.

you are welcome to work on that translation, however there are some things to do

btw the files are located in

You are in EJB CMP 2.x land here. The implementor of these abstract method is the EJB
container itself. When it is deployed the container provide an implementation of all
the abstract get/set on the EJBs.

We advise you not to modify Nukes source code in that place but instead use the
IMAGE type.

The JBoss cmp file says to use IMAGE as type in MS SQL Server, look at
$JBOSS_HOME/server/default/conf/standardjboss-jdbc.xml

yes the encoding is a little bit messy.

we should switch it to UTF-8. Nukes always output chars, at the end tomcat does the
conversion from java.lang.String to the right encoding.

encoding is given to the browser uwith 2 infos : in the HTTP response headers and in
the page with the meta tag. I don't understand really well why there is a need for
both of these.
